Want some feedback on this idea

I had an idea for a potential Ranma 1/2 fiction, so I thought I'd post the basics here and see what the general opinion was.

The basic premise is this: there exists a fantastical world, where Good and Evil are living forces that are part of the very fabric of reality (ala Gods). For countless eons, the forces of Good and Evil have clashed, rested and clashed again, keeping the world in a perpetual state of balance. And then, one day, the Other come. The embodiement of the force that is the flipside of the coin of which Good and Evil are one side. A completely alien force of madness and corruption, which infected the Source of Good.

Tainted by the Other, the forces of light have enslaved the world, once-virtuous heroes carving it up into a plethora of nightmarish kingdoms. This leaves the Source of Evil in the unexpected position of having to sponsor a Champion to purge the Source of Good and restore balance to the world. However, the heroes of evil have been slain, their minions scattered and disorganized. So, in a last, desperate maneuver, the Source of Evil opens a gateway to another world and plucks a new Champion... and guess who he picks?

So what's your opinion? Do you think it sounds like something interesting to do? If so, I could use a little help putting together the details for the "otherworld".
Water, water, everywhere, and all was cursed and black!
Drowned ones cast bad spell and out come pig, girl, duck, panda!
Swirl, swirl, slithery pond, and join with magic spring!
Swirl, swirl, dirty pond, and rid the cursed sting!
Here my prayer, I beg you please!
Now turn these curses BACK!

So good and evil are both a part of order and good becomes infected by chaos...

Sounds to me like a good idea. Methinks the tough part will be portraying Ranma as an "evil hero," but I can easily see overzealous "champions of justice" slicing up "tainted" civilians. This shouldn't be much of a problem if you just depict Ranma as a stereotyipical antihero with a few adjustments. Just don't use alternate versions of the Sailor Senshi as villains, please.

On that note, why just one "hero"? How about a team of villains drawn from multiple universes? I for one would like to see Eudial and the Generals from Sailor Moon getting some much-deserved action, and they could be used to coax Ranma into the finer points of villainy, though Ranma's not going to give up the code of the martial artist so easily, I imagine.

*blinks* It sounds something like you'd see in a Slayers crossover. In fact you could replace the Good and Evil with Ceipheed and Shabranigdo, and I think you could go somewhere with it. The Other could be the Lord of Nightmares invading Lina Inverse (although that might be a bit overboard, seeing as how her manifesting would mean the destruction of the world). Interaction between the mazoku and Ranma - a human, normally a species seen as little more than a toy and occasional source of food - would be interesting.

But eh. *shrugs* That's just me. Your idea sounds like it'd probably stand well as an original crossover, but what I wrote up there suddenly popped into my head.

My problem with it is that it takes "Good" entirely out of context by having it act in an evil manner, and why would Evil want to return things to normal when it could easily take advantage of the situation instead?

It might be better to use things that, while commonly associated with Good or Evil, are not nessecarily aligned with them, examples would be Light and Dark, or Order and Chaos. You could even use all four I just mentioned Order has a highly structered society with many rules and laws, citys built on paterns and such, and a large organized army. Light has smaller citys and towns, less organized and always out in the open on plains or in forests, mostly has small militias for each town rather than a centralized army. Dark uses small villages in underground caves or deep valleys and tends more toward the Espionage spectrum, Spies, Assassins, Sabotuers and the like as it's fighters. and Chaos has wandering tribes with it's warriors being more of Mercenaries, stronger than any of the others, but fewer in number.

You could also have Heros represent up to two forces at a time, Light and Order, Light and Chaos, Dark and Order, or Dark and Chaos.

As for the corruption, of the forces I named I could see Order being corrupted most easily and Light and Dark ignoring it unless it causes problems to their own campaigns, and even then focusing on the problems and not the source, this could be due to a treaty of sorts that each pair will not directly interfere with the other pairs conflicts. The corruption of Order could take the form of enslavement magics the forcefully bind people to Orders Laws thus Chaos' mercenaries are hunted down and Bound forcing it to find a new Hero since it can't ask Light or Dark for help.

Heaven's Deamon- the Source of Evil tells Ranma that its actions will restore balance, but doesn't it seem a bit too convenient that purging the Source of Good will require conquering the kingdoms of Good, shattering their armies, tearing down their defences and slaying their heroes...? In other words, Ranma is being played for a sucker; Evil hopes to reverse the current situation (which has it all but extinguished and just barely clinging on to life) with Ranma's help. Purging the Other is a bonus. Besides, cosmic entities of this sort tend to be bound by strange and eldritch codes; Evil may not want to restore balance, but it has to, much the same way a human needs to breathe.

These are the things I need advice on/help with, just for the curious:
*Appearance of the Sources (originally I was thinking of making them literal "pools" of Light and Darkness, then I thought about giant floating crystalline constructs- anyone have any suggestions?)

*Name for the world and various kingdoms

*Ideas for Tainted Heroes (aka the "bosses" Ranma has to fight)

*Minions (both for the Evil side and for Tainted Good)

*Arcana (spells and items of magic)

I have a pair of prototype Tainted minions, which I'll put here as examples.

Gloom Unicorns
Unicorns corrupted by the Other into savage predators, Gloom Unicorns resemble the ordinary kind, but with ash-grey coats, mad red eyes and ebony horns. Gloom Unicorns are predators. Their horns leave extremely painful and slow-healing wounds, while they have the ability to create clouds of despair-inducing darkness and to become ethereal in shadowy conditions.

Whispering Elves
The Elves have been driven mad by the corruption of the Other. With unnaturally pale flesh littered with deep, but bloodless, wounds and empty, staring eyes, their moniker comes from the constant maddening whispers they produce. Except for this never-ceasing ghostly murmuring, they make no sound whatsoever, even when moving.
Water, water, everywhere, and all was cursed and black!
Drowned ones cast bad spell and out come pig, girl, duck, panda!
Swirl, swirl, slithery pond, and join with magic spring!
Swirl, swirl, dirty pond, and rid the cursed sting!

Seems to me you simply turned GOOD into another EVIL. How is OTHER (and Tainted Good) different from EVIL at all? For example, when I read about tainted elves my first association was with orcs from LotR - classical evil race.

A) If you want to assign such qualities and minions to the Other force, try renaming it to Evil as well. For example, Evil from another dimension, that conquered its own Good and moved onto other worlds. Native Evil isn't as powerful and needs help defeating this new rival. Or maybe native Evil is sentimental or likes to play chess with Good and wants its partner back :)

B) How about using ORDER as the invading force. ORDER has enough in common with GOOD to be able to penetrate and then corrupt it. Note that you will not get flesh-eating unicorns and mad elves, all the units and heroes will be normal fantasy types. I see a lot of use for fanatics and "For the good of the kingdom, these villagers must be slaughtered" heroes.

You can play out the Ranma is Chaos' avatar card here. For example, Chaos from Ranmaverse lends Ranma to Evil to help stop Order from spreading. You can even show how they negotiate the contract :)
