Dick Tatge and I did a very good superhero landing in a Defender strip for Star Studded Comics. I did the script and inks, and Dick did the pencils. (I got rather carried away with texture detailing.) Defender was a regular hero for the comic, and Crystal Stone was a villainess who could focus hypnotic powers through gemstones, the bigger and clearer the better. (Guess what she stole.) In any case, Defender (in his secret identity as District Attorney Carl Reed) was attending a high-society ball with diamond-studded guests, hoping to catch crystal in the act. She shot first, as it were, and when Carl recovered he was ticked off and wanted badly to catch her. So he changed to his hero identity and flew all over town looking for her.

He didn't find her, so he went home.

Next panel shows him taking his mask off. The panel after that shows Crystal in his comfy chair smirking at him. She knew she'd hypnotized the District Attorney, so she burgled into his place to ask him how he'd shook off her hypnosis so rapidly. She found out more than she expected. Very. It was literally raining as i walked home tonight. +5C. Once upon a time, this time, 13th to 15th, nearly always had somewhere in the -5C to -20C range. And i've even moved 250km north since back then.
