Re: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly; anyone interested?

Sheesh, I'd forgotten all about this... so much stuff to do, so little time. Trying to get back into fanficcing, Let's Reading for D&D 4e, so much... I'll try to get these spreadsheets up, but I can't say when it'll happen. Any preferences for which I focus on doing first? And maybe I should inc...

Re: How compatible could the (non-Akane) girls be with Ranma

Schampoo though, i really don't get how many writers try to pass off a relationship between them as realistic, even despite the large number of fics written that pairs them, very few come even close to something that can be called "canon" versions of both characters and still get them tog...

Re: The Bitter End Syndrome

The bitter end syndrome is what I call when authors depict the problems in Akane’s and Ranma’s relationship as entirely his fault. That all Ranma needs to do is get rid of his fiancées and stop insulting Akane and everything will magically fix itself. This does not mean that the fic is bad take Rel...

How compatible could the (non-Akane) girls be with Ranma?

When it comes to pairings, everybody knows Ranma 1/2 was always a case of Designated Official Couple: Rumiko Takakashi was adamant that Ranma would wed Akane, and, deliberately or not, went out of her way to present the other potential rivals in the most unflattering light she could in order to avoi...

What do you feel are Ranma 1/2's "missed opportunities"?

Ranma 1/2 has always inspired fanfic writers - this could be attributed to it, much like Sailor Moon, being part of the "perfect storm" of hitting the English speaking world in an era when anime was new & exciting and the internet was beginning to fully take off. But I like to think th...

Re: Actual number of times Akane uses a mallet on Ranma

Akane malleting Ranma is, similarly to "Shampoo running over Ranma", a gag in the original manga that was largely dropped in the anime. It's not entirely fanon, but it's overemphasized in fanon, and probably has its roots in the very famous and eye-catching Ranma 1/2 movie #1, "Big Tr...

Re: Kounji Martial Arts

a lot of fanfics describe Ukyo as a ninja is there anything in the manga/anime that confirms this or is it just fanon There is no canonical connection of the Kunoji school to ninjitsu in either anime or manga canon. It's a bit of fanon that mostly has its roots in the fact that it makes a certain a...

Re: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly; anyone interested?

Yes. Since folks generally don't go digging around in the ROH stuff and there's various things I intend to reevaluate now that I'm older and wiser - for example, I've given Shampoo a lot harsher rating for her season 1 appearances this time around - I figured it'd be worthwhile to see if others woul...

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly; anyone interested?

Way back on the old site, there was a series of topics that attempted to list the good, bad, and ugly actions various Ranma characters had canonically performed. The first came into existence in regards Akane of the manga, and was down by the Reverend Acey, but I also partook by offering my own atte...

Re: Charcter ages

He is clearly younger in the anime than in the manga for the NekoKen, which is why most people write about it happening when he's 6 or 7 (sometimes even before he meets Ukyo) In the official dub of the anime, Genma outright says that he did the NekoKen training in "the spring of Ranma's 6th ye...

Re: Ukyo's eyes.

*Noy got confused and stopped thinking.* Green eyes mean what, personality wise? According to TVtropes, green eyes tend to signify a character who is either very sexy/sensual, is a spitfire, is untrustworthy, has nature-related magical powers, or any combination of the aforementioned. http://tvtrop...

Re: Who is more responsible for ryoga’s curse

Personally, I argue that neither of them is really to blame for it. If there's anyone who deserves blame, it's Genma; as far as we know, he's the one who took Ranma away from that bread duel after three days, he took Ranma to Jusenkyo, and Ranma was chasing him in a blind fury when A: Ryoga was forc...

Re: Whose worse manga akane or anime akane

I think it kind of depends on how you define "worse". Though hardly an expert on the manga, my general knowledge/understanding is that Anime!Akane has a slightly increased tendency to get angry, the impact of which is enhanced because we can hear her shouting and see her throwing blows, bu...

Re: Genma, Soun, Shogi and cheating; Fanon or canon?

I can't say if it happens in the manga - I've picked up the Viz re-release double-packs 1-22 so far, but I haven't actually sat down and read them cover to cover yet - but I know I've seen it in the anime. The first time it's in a fairly early season episode, and ironically it's Soun who's cheating;...

Re: Query about the manga - missing scene in my copy?

Okay, thank you for that... yeah, in fact, now that I think about it, I'm sure that I was actually attributing a scene from a fanfic I read to the manga, due to the fact that the anime 'expands' the "Ryoga holepunches the kanji for Akane's name" by having it happen during the day and Ryoga...
