That'll do nicely to provide motive both for Ranma staying, and even for him going with the agent. Only thing I'd say differently is "That would have made them even more suspcious!"
As a bonus, it gets him feeling a bit trapped. Which bothers him, but it is a situation he's used to functioning in.
