Ranma/AMG crossover... Original idea?

OK i was think of how to make ranma a god...I know i could do the normal wish some makes him a god through loopholes story line. been there seen it.
My first idea was to have him sacrifice himself to save a goddess(probably Belldandy as Kasumi)
My new idea is to have him and the essence of Celestin combine either when Ranma is going through the cat fist or during the battle with Saffron. I mean we really don't know what happens to Celestin at the end of the movie the mask just kinda turns to dust. I know it's implied that he's gone but he could still be around. He is an Exile god so Ranma would be apart of Yggdrasil...make him a renegade I'll probably expand on it could do another crossover if it's during the catfist. I'll see where my muse takes me

Sacrificing him/her/self to save others to become a god, while it may be noble... has been done before, nothing ever really came of those few fics though... But why have Belldadny pose as Kasumi in that idea? Kasumi, as nice a backround character she is... is hardly a goddess...
And while the idea of Ranma and Celestine merging is an interesting (AND NEW!) thought, I don't see the cat-fist training as being any good as it was such a traumatic event on Ranma's psychi, plus there's a continuality difference between the Ranma and Ah!MG timelines at that point. Then with Safron... I couldn't even begin to count how many fics there are where Ranma gets some sort of mega-super-ultra-whammy-kick-ass-instant-godlike-power up durring that fight, and oddly enough a few of those fics are relatively decent.
But that's hardly original for your fic, that is if you're really looking for an original idea.
Really, instead of relying on the same old cannonical Ranma events, why not make one up and start from there to be original?
I'm just throwing this out there... but what about a post-manga but pre-collage Ranma being kidnapped in male form (because he's SOOOO Dreamy!) by the youngest princess of the fairies (it's the Fairy Queen Morgana in the movie right?) where while being held captive in a far off magical palace he finds something (mask, jewel, toilet paper, just any old thing...
) containing Celestines essence and in typical Ranma fashion flubs things up and unleashes Celestine's powers and memories into him/her/self?
Just my insto-matic thought on the matter of trying to be original with a Ranma and Ah!MG cross...

OK I could see taking Ranma out of the canon events so keep it original...not a bad actually. I don't want him to put him in at the begining of the movie cause i want to make ranma a enemy of Yggdarsil so he is hunted by both sides...Give him the powers of a god but take away the connection to heaven...so he would be a rogue or renegade. He won't need the connection since with the merger he should get Celestin's knowledgeand Celestin was a mentor to belldandy so ranma would be the typical 'new' god ...maybe make him cross dimensions to find his own happiness and fullfillment like belldandy

Well to make him an enemy of Heaven... Asgard and by extension Yggdrasil may see Ranma as Celestine's attempt to reincarnate himself (probably some forbidden law against that) to continue his nafarious plots... and thus they'd intercede to stop Ranma (the reborn Celestine from the Hevens perspective)
And Hell... well Hild may want to recruit him as another demon in her ranks (more reasons for Asgard to stop Ranma) but Ranma would like say no with extreme prejudice (can we say a fight of Biblical proportions?) making enemies in low-liing places... like Hell...
And as far as dimension hopping... that can be... lets say "trickey" to pull off as it'll make the story all that more complex. I cite: "Path of Chaos: Ascention to Supremacy" as case exibit 'A'.
But overall, Ranma with Celestine's memories may end up inclined to gravitate towards Belldadny with romatic intent, but Bell' being a woman scorned may refute him intentions leaving him hunted by both side and with an unrequited love... maybe that's more angst than you want to get into... just a thought though...

Depends on which version you're looking at. OVA Bell is perfect as far as I can tell. Anime series Bell gets jealous easily. Manga Bell has about as many flaws as any other normal person...in the beginning anyways.

The idea looks good so far, though it still doesn't punch me in the face with it's originality. It's also missing that fundamental human connection that makes good stories really good. Ranma's only reacting to events, and the only conviction he has in him is the regular "hero" complex. Now, you could say that the story needs time to build up and develop first, but I'm the type who isn't very patient when it comes to stories. Grab me by the balls and squeeze from the very beginning!

OK so I have worked the basic idea of the story. Here goes

We have the setting being 1 year after the end of the the series. Ranma has is just about to finish high school and plans on attending college(don't know which one yet. ideas?) He last year has been a difficult time for Ranma. The fiances have not given up and have only pushed harder for him to make a choice. Nabiki has been going to Tokyo U. but still the normal pain. The parents have only become more demanding also. The one bright spot in his life is Kasumi. Since The Wedding Kasumi has bee his source of calm in the storm of chaos called his life. Ryuoga has not been seen since the wedding. Now we have Ranma and Kasumi walking to the market and Ryuoga shows up and shouts his usual Ranma die but the last year has been hard on Ryuoga and he has found some new deadly techniques. Kasumi gets caught in the path of one and Ranma throws himself in front of her to save her life but recieving fatal injuries in the process. We have Ranma say his last words to her.
Celestin's essence comes upon this and seeing a love that he can save he comes to kasumi asking her if she would like ranma back. Sobbing out a yes we have Celestin merge with ranma's body and soul giving him and Kasumi a second chance.

This will be the breaking point for Ranma and he will use his new knowledge to cut ties to the NWC. but they won't let him go that easily.

He will probably run acrossed the Norns as he will still be a Exile god. So we will have him try to balance a life with Kasumi, school, NWC and Heaven

I still need to plan what I want to happen later. I think the first arc of the story will be dealing with the NWC and setting up a new life. later we will bring in the Norns and Heaven when Belldandy, Urd, Skuld find a similar aura around Ranma. I could have Ranma and Kasumi travel around the world. Meet up with Herb, Saffron, Or could even make it a crossover with HP or Sailor moon. I know it's been done too much with the initial start and crossovers. but they would be small parts of the whole.

Points for giving ranma a personal stake, but penalty for using a very scripted scenario. Being a Kasumi/Ranma match up fan, the whole Kasumi being the calm in Ranma's life has been done to death. There needs to be a special twist, an unexpected angle that affects not only the originality of the concept but how the story itself proceeds. As for why there needs to be that deeper more original level, it's a question of engagement. It's hard to really feel when love for Kasumi is nothing more than a glorified love for sanctuary.

Also why Ranma? What personal link does he have to the martial artist? Is it based on power alone?

ok hmmmm your right about the calm kasumi bit done to death.
Lets see if i can add that bit of twist into it to make it original. hehehe your going to love this.
OK first lets drop the whole idea I first pitched. the setting will be change to the night of the Wedding...Ranma is unconscious and we have Kasumi taking care of him... Kasumi wishes she could help Ranma in anyway she could. She is fond of Ranma and it could blossom into love if given that nudge...Celestin's essence is lonely and misses belldandy...he hears the plea and notices that Kasumi's gentle spirit is like that of Belldandy...he decides to approach her and asks her what troubles her...Kasumi feeling no malice for the drifting spirit answers and confesses to feeling hopeless over Ranma's hard life...He asks her if given the chance to help him would she take it...Kasumi nods. Celestin explains to Kasumi what he could do to help her and she excepts...forever changing what she is to help the young man beside her

So now we have a exile-Goddess Kasumi and the God-slayer Ranma. I feel better about this idea cause now Kasumi has a way to actually help Ranma she is not a potential victim and Ranma was strong enough if I make Saffron a god

I can play with Kasumi's character a bit and make her more assertive. So she starts to make a claim on Ranma. I could have fun with making Ranma fall hard for the gentle girl. That would be the first arc. Catching Ranma's intrests while dealing with the NWC then go into the rest but with Kasumi as the one being hunted and Ranma helping her.

The issue would be to strengthen Ranma up a bit maybe he could start to use the powers of the god and goddesses after a few battles. Given his abilities in battle he could do it. So we have a mortal who can use the powers of creation and an Exile-goddess. Ya that sounds better

and be picky I want to make a great story and having people giev opinions and dieas i might not thought of or questioning me is a great way to make a great story

Now you're getting somewhere. Few more comments:

1)My memory is a bit hazy on the movie, but I'm pretty sure Celestin doesn't lose any of his sentience and agency when he's fused with someone. Keep in mind that Kasumi reminds him of Bell enough that he's not going to sit there and do nothing while Ranma and Kasumi get closer (even if he has no overt feelings for Kasumi, there could be other reasons). More important is how Ranma and Kasumi's relationship could affect Celestin's plans.

2)Pure power may not be the only way to fight demons and gods. I'm saying this just to keep that avenue open in your mind, since Ranma is all about being able to get in there and rough it out with the best of them. What I do suggest is not to use Celestin's powers to pump him up unless there's a very very good plot related reason. The exiled god is looking like a walking plot device already so any extra problems he solves will seem contrived.
