Genma/Soun with Nyannichuan Curse Concept While Young Training with Happosai
This is just something I thought up that's been trying to escape my head and get onto virtual paper. I'm working on Jade Rose's Thorn Ch. 3 right now but wanted to outline this and share it and see what kind of responses I'd get. Been some long weeks which is why I haven't had time to write more of that story. Anyway, any opinions you could give me about what follows would be appreciated or if you want to adopt the idea say that too. This isn't carefully proofread and is in fact a rough brain storm but I think it's an interesting concept I have not seen done. I know the timeline is screwy need to fix that up.
There's a theory that states that there is a separate reality for each decision a individual makes in their life. For Happosai and his 'students' this decision was made a few dozen years ago when Happosai was last visiting China. After 'baptizing' a poor baby in a spring at Jusenkyou and seeing the results he thought of the possible applications of being able to curse a strong opponent into a embracing, or easily dealt with form and took samples of various Springs along with him. Unluckily, an Amazon scouting party appeared and Happosai fled as he was very much a wanted man among the Amazons. In his flight he forgot all about the many vials of water that he had stowed away until another set of events made him lament his lack of a female student.
Happosai was a man who loved his dirty pleasures but he also had a bit of a heart. After helping the sick girl, Hinako, in the Hospital he then worked to make the situation even more advantageous to him. Ah...wonderful underwear and she helped him with it too. Too bad that she was too young to take as a student like Genma and Soun she'd be quite an attractive woman when she grew up. Still, the problem with taking a woman as a student was that he simply couldn't see a woman being respected in teaching his art in the stuffy culture of Japan...hence his reluctant selection of his two students Soun and Genma both of whom had a lot of potential and could definitely bring in a great amount of students to his proud legacy. But still training a woman would be so much more fun and have some nice benefits. Too bad that his students couldn't do both...
Wait those Springs in China...Looking through his bag he found what he was looking for Nyannichaun. Yes, this was perfect. His two students could both be his heirs and respected as well as modeling his beautiful liberated darlings. Drooling in glee he began to ran over to where he had assigned Genma and Soun to train before stopping. If he simply splashed the two with the water he doubted they'd appreciate being cursed and as angry and fed up with him as they'd been getting as of late well he wouldn't be surprised if they tried something foolish. How then to curse them but not have them be aware that it was their wonderful master who was blessing them with a new ability?
Thinking it over he came up with a plan. There was a shrine near by dedicated to (Look up feminine Buddhist/Shinto goddess who dealt with transformations). He would tell them that he had almost acquired a very powerful artifact from within the temple before a beautiful priestess had stopped him (the temple was actually quite small and had no priests/priestesses on hand except for special occasions but his students would not know that). He'd really play it up that he'd be leaving the monastery alone now as she knew this unbeatable technique that had successfully beaten him. Knowing that something was capable of beating their dread master they would no doubt go after the non-existent artifact. He would feign sleep and then follow them to the temple. After he got inside he'd knock them out and curse them with the Nyannichuan waters. His students would awake female and he'd tell them the goddess herself must have cursed them. Knowing how gullible they are they would have to believe it. (He does this. Genma and Soun being who they are totally fall for it. Both now have Jusenkyou curses).
Genma's female form: Very fit, medium breasted, black stringy hair (her worst feature), over time will think things through a bit more and due to feminine hormones and brain chemistry will be a much better 'parent' to Ranma. Genma also becomes more contemplative. He really attempts to better himself afterwards as he's quite embarrassed and angry to have a female form as he is quite misogynistic. He becomes more contemplative and considers things more with the example of what running head first into things always staring at him in the face. This too drastically changes how he treats Ranma.
Soun's female form: Very tall, long legged, long lustrous black hair. At first breaks down emotionally at the curse and becomes very weepy. Genma/Happosai disgusted by this and beat and help her out of her depression. He/she then becomes Very reserved and icy calm. Once his wife dies will be emotionally distraught...However, he will recover when he sees Kasumi attempting to cook and clean the house and taking care of too much and has recovered from a emotionally scarring event in his past. Will take this onto him/herself and will be quite a good father and mother figure to his daughters. All will be skilled in martial arts and he will have kept the home engaging in both traditionally masculine and feminine activities there-in (with Kasumi at times helping with the cleaning/cooking and all three of the daughters active in the dojo).
Affects of a More balanced and good upbringing on the Tendo's:
Kasumi-Is attending college with a double major in Physical Education and Therapy. A superb martial artist...But she lacks the killer instinct to do well in serious fights as she doesn't like to hurt people. Very interested in carrying on the Dojo and also possibly having a small clinic on the side to treat injuries. Not interested in Tofu romantically as he's too old for her, but they are friends and he is helping her with her medical studies. Quite close to her father after a great deal of initial drama about her thinking he was trying to replace mother with himself.
Akane-Much more balanced. Still only a average martial artist and the weakest in that respect to her sisters (though Kasumi is not fond of out and out fighting except in self-defense or training). She was going to be Soun's heir to the school but as a girl was teased about her father and got very insecure because of the oddness. Now not close at all with her father/mother figure and refuses his training in the art getting it from other instructors that Soun has set up but they are just not as good. Still has a temper but it is more moderated. MUCH more defensive of her femininity which she attempts to highlight as she sees her father as kind of a freak and is not proud of him. Only girl Soun is not that close too as she has been teased mercilessly by other students about her father.
Nabiki-Deals with the finances of the Dojo and does it quite well. She only took them over once she was a teen because she has a better head for business then her father. A very popular girl in school as she dealt quite brutally both mentally and physically as required with those who made fun of her father. Superb martial artist and Soun's heir to the school as it stands as she has the killer instinct Kasumi lacks and is better trained then Akane. Doesn't have the potential Akane does which she recognizes but is more then willing to work for her skills and pushes through her shortcomings. Does not run the blackmail/racketeering rings nor does she sell information as most of that aspect of her personality is tied into making sure the dojo does well.
Affects of a male/female father on Ranma's upbringing: Ranma barely changes. He was not however taught the cat fist as Genma is in the habit now of checking things out far more. He see's Genma much as Akane see's her father as an embarrassment and not enough of a man due to the curse. As such Genma raised him in a much less macho fashion but he gained a lot of the stereotypical Ranma character traits anyway. Though he is much more respectful of female instructors as Genma taught him in his cursed form in occasion. Even more driven then in cannon to be the greatest martial artist and a 'man among men' though. Why? Genma did not want to sign the sepukuu pact and take Ranma away from his mother. It was ENTIRELY Nodoka's idea. Genma was horrified. He promised to bring Ranma back periodically and did but Nodoka wasn't pleased by this and wanted him to go on a long training trip as Genma did as a child. Genma does this getting scared of some of the out and out craziness Nodoka exhibits. Ranma however is now old enough to remember these rejections and is therefore very motivated to earn his mothers love. Genma is a much better parent but Ranma sees him as coddling him too much regardless of the training they undergo. Ranma ends the training a bit stronger then cannon.
Why does Nodoka accept Genma?
"Oh you're so manly even though you have a curse." Genma feeling lost and broken and never thinking he'd find love because of the curse falls head over heels for the first women to accept both sides of him at least marginally. He ignores some of her odder tendencies.
Story will focus on Genma/Soun dealing with the situation for a short time and small seeds being planted that will later quite drastically change their personalities. The only people who won't be pretty changed are Ranma and Nodoka. Story will then focus on Genma/Soun meeting their wives, Soun's wife dying and his changing responsibilities and how he pulls things together instead of breaking down, Genma/Ranma's training trip being much changed with no fiancees but Ukyo (as Genma wanted her to escape a father who was willing to sell her to the father of the first strong boy to come around), etc.
The Soun/Genma dealing with their curses will take up ~3 or 4 chapters ~5k words each. Genma/Soun will then meet their wives and have their kids in a compressed fashion ~2 chapters ~4k words each. Genma/Ranma's training trip and Soun dealing with the death of his wife and raising his kids ~6k words per chapter and ~2-6 chapters. Ranma's arrival in Nerima and engagement to one of the Tendo's ~6k words ~2-4 chapters and end of story. Not sure if Ranma will get a Jusenkyo curse of his own. Leaning towards yes or having them go to China and paying more attention to the guide since they'll already believe in magic.
