Well, from Lunar Legend Tsukihime, you could have Arcueid Brunestud. While not posesing illusions of normalcy, she does have a naivety that is entertaining.
If you feel bothered to throw in some time travel plot, then Rosette Christopher from Chrno Crusade would rock.
Or, from Yumeria, you could use a (older, asume time passed) girl called Neneko. She is insistent, bossy, has no marital artist skills, has a cat compaionion, and seemed to take weirdness as normal- finding herself in a dreem world, fighting nightmares in skimpy clothing, she didnt realize that it was unusual. And she wanderes around, followed by her cat, chanting "so it is, so it is, so it so it is."

(shudders at the thought of a Yumeria/Ranma cross...)
I am reluctant to use Neneko... but only for the reason it will be so far in her future and the future of her Manga I would have to make up so much there would be no reason to actually use her...
Chrono Crusade is technically alternate universe... and as tempting as it is to do it, I have to reject that idea as well... Not that it can't be done, it is more the fact I don't want to bring in the baggage that is her life, especially how it ends. Unlike many Anime it has a definitive ending, and a dark one at that.
However one suggestion has my interest and only fails on a technicality:
Lunar Legend Tsukihime , Arcueid Brunestud. The only reason I at the moment am rejecting the idea is the fact that I know of no way to make a genma related, or an accidental, engagement to Ranma.
I never saw the show, but then in retrospect, of the remaining 5 new fiancees I have only seen 2 of their animes and am guessing based on available knowledge. So if you have an idea on how she could end up engaged to Ranma let me know and I will concider it.
If all else fails I will go with either Sasami or Aieka from Tenchi Muyo. and use Seto and Tsunami and probably a third force just to be funny. Unfortunately both girls classify as fighters so that part of my hope is out, but I want to be different, so I hope it doesn't come to this.

Wanting possible other fiancees ehh?... hm.. I could recommend Nodoka from Negima. About as non-com as you get. Or even her counterpart of Shinobu from Love Hina. Don't know if they help with any other requirements, but they don't get much more meek or weak than either.

You seek a name change from Sailor Sol?
There are of course several options using the same scelestial body.
Solaris, for one.
Sailor Helios (going with the whole Roman gods trend).
Sailor Apollo, Or Sailor Hyperion are both pleasant greco/roman solar deities.
Ra, Surya, and Shamash are other more obscure sun gods. Aten is another even more Obscure sun god.
Of course you could use Amaterasu, if you want a Goddess. Aurora and Eos are both Dawn Goddesses (roman and Greek respectively).
Of course Sol is an actual god if you want to use it (two to be truthful, Roman and Norse), but It's really really overused.

That... makes me think of Karin from Bleach.
Atlan wrote:Well, from Lunar Legend Tsukihime, you could have Arcueid Brunestud. While not posesing illusions of normalcy, she does have a naivety that is entertaining.

Cue spit-take at the thought that anyone could consider the potential strongest being in that universe a 'noncombatant'.
Wargiver wrote:The only reason I at the moment am rejecting the idea is the fact that I know of no way to make a genma related, or an accidental, engagement to Ranma.

Well... I still think you're a psychopath if you want to call that overpowered vampire a noncombatant. But it's actually moderately easy to set up an engagement:
The last time she was out of her confinement was... Roughly 17 years ago, when she was taking down Elesia. So, say Genma was in France for some inexplicable reason, Arcueid 'tested out human culture' and got plastered before heading back, and it went from there...
... I think I just scared myself. I'll explain any plot and personality points you want if you insist on this foolish, foolish path, though. (Even scarier: she does have a backhanded connection to cats, in that a 'spam' character in Tsukihime is Neko-Arc, an SD-catgirl version of her)
But seriously, she's just a 'little' too powerful to put in the same area as Ranma - physically, she radically outperforms any of Ranma's dreams, and the chick can manifest a goddamn black hole at will! (And this is after having lost something on the order of 90% of her power)
Hm, I'll see if I can think of any better options when I'm awake. I was sure I had one, but then I got distracted by my cat...
Rei-chan wrote:hm.. I could recommend Nodoka from Negima.

Darn. Beat me to it :)
And Negima has the added advantage of being already designed to fit into the same world as Love Hina.

If you want a different name for Sailor Sol, use other stars... why not, say, Altair or Deneb (my personal favorite)?
As for other fiancees... hmm, I'd be tempted to propose Li Xiangfei from King of Fighters. She can actually out-eat Ranma (yes, she eats that much), is a martial artist, can have a nasty temper and is pretty oblivious to things at times.
And no, she's not an amazon. She's just a bit of a tomboy, but nothing like Akane. She does, however, get grumpy and irritable if she's hungry.
Just an idea.

It all really depends on your priority in a substitute.
Noncombatant?
Asserting her claim?
Female, and all else is extra?

here is my list/order of priorities:
1 - Female
2 - Tomboy
3 - Her cannon is not alternate universe, nor does it contradict the other anime picked directly (a small detail can be over looked or written around)
4 - Strong willed (like Haruhi, the answer No is not a word she is capiable of hearing)
5 - A way to get engaged to Ranma (a bonus point if it possible to be an accident like Shampoo)
6 - Non-combatnant
7 - Delusions of normalacy (she is the type that would believe 'gas explosion' as a reason for a school blowing up despite being a witness)
Any chatacter recommended must have a full description, including things that most fan sites would miss, appearance, family, any connection to cats, personality, quirks, episode of the series that she started appearing in, etc... The only reason I ask is I never saw Negima, so saying Nodoka is all well and good but all I have for her is a short description from wikipedia. Not a good way to do good characterization.
here are Haruhi and Ayeka shown in my interpretation of what I am looking for: (female is droped out of explaining for obvious reasons)
Haruhi
Tomboy - she never dresses the part but she has little modesty, there are a few minor other reasons, but to me she just comes off as one. (where normal anime girls may be compairable to a rose, she would compare to a cactus flower, no where near safe to apporach, muchless touch)
Her cannon is not alternate universe - The future she has contradicts at minimum Sailor Moon, possibly Tokyo Mew Mew too.
Strong willed - Nobody can defeat her in a battle of wills
A way to get engaged to Ranma (bonus points if it possible to be an accident like Shampoo - Parrents
Non-combatnant - she can't fight on her own (might change in later books, but in the anime time line she can't yet)
Delusions of normalacy - the wierdness is all around her but its kept from her sight
Ayeka
Tomboy - I think her constant brawls/arguements with Ryoko explain this
Her cannon is not alternate universe - No contradiction I can see
Strong willed - Somewhat, her will isn't amazingly strong. But she isn't a quitter
A way to get engaged to Ranma - Seto...
Non-combatnant - fail, she can fight, its just many fights in Tenchi Muyo are beyond her
Delusions of normalacy - fail, she sees it how it is, is just usually blind sided by her focus on Tenchi
hmm... now that I wrote it out that way Ayeka has more points to win, despite Ayeka having 2 failures and Haruhi having 1 Ayeka's are at the bottom of the list.
My scoring system is to reverse the numbers for the points and get the total. Haruhi, had numbers 1,2,4,5,6,7 so her points are 7,6,4,3,2,1 = 23
Ayeka had 1,2,3,4,5 so her points are 7,6,5,4,3 = 25 plus 1 point for a possible engagment outside either's control so Ayeka is a at 26, and Haruhi is at 23.
Storm trooper effect works against good guys as well.

5 - A way to get engaged to Ranma (a bonus point if it possible to be an accident like Shampoo)

This one's pitifully easy.
There's always a way to twist your mind and all possible logic to set up an engagement, especially with Genma's acknowledged talents.

Right then.
Nodoka Miyazaki, Series of Origin - Negima.
Age: 14/15
No cats I'm afraid, although she does hang out in the same group as a perverted talking ermine.
Family: Who the hell knows? She lives at a boarding school.
Appearance: Very small girl, probably smaller than Ranma-chan. Purple hair that's generally semi-shaggy, tends to fall over her eyes - length is about halfway down the neck, bangs are slightly longer. Purple eyes.
Personality: Shy, quiet, really loves books. She fits in as a noncombatant, but not as a tomboy, or in denial.
Powers: Depends on the stage you take her from. Really early on, she has nothing except freakish near-encyclopedic knowledge of almost any mundane topic (she practically lives in the library, and reads for fun). In the Kyoto arc, she picks up abilities as a Ministra Magi - she can technically chant a spell ('Sim Tua Pars') to draw magic into herself and radically enhance her physical characteristics to NWC or beyond levels, but she's not a physical combatant, and she was only enhanced like this once so far as I've seen, and in training. She also has an artifact (calling it out is based on the chant 'Adeat') - a picture diary that depicts the thoughts of anyone whose name she focuses on. Later on she's started training in magic, although so far as volume seven, all she's managed to do was summon a spark of fire, and that in a group of five (but one of her fellow trainees did manage to do it on her own by volume ten, so she may have progressed).
Social Group: Library Exploration Club (Yue Ayase, a blue-haired genius slacker; Haruna Saotome, a semi-deranged mangaka; Konoka Konoe, headmaster's granddaughter, kind of 'airy'), Negi Springfield (her teacher - she's rather in love with him), Asuna Kagurazaka (semi-temperamental redhead), Chamo (forgotten his full name, but he's the perverted talking ermine I mentioned), Setsuna Sakurazaki (swordsman trainee from the same style as Motoko, serious, straightlaced, with an awe-inspiring ability to get herself worked up), Ku Fei (Negi's martial arts teacher), Kasumi Asakura (reporter girl), Evangeline (a little girl vampire who was well described as 'so good at being bad'), etc...
Image
For your edification, I will score Arcueid.
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Not really
Canon: I've repeatedly been able to squeeze official Type-Moon canon around Sailor Moon (a rather freakish feat considering all the fun things with Crimson Moon...).
Strong-willed: Uh... she kinda stalked the guy who killed her to get him to back her up. I guess I'll say yes.
Way to get engaged: Already given.
Non-combatant: ... Fuck no! I'd seriously give her negative points for this one.
Delusions of normality: ... Vampire princess of the Moon. Nuff said.
Point Total: 19. 17 if you take me seriously and give negative points in noncom.
'kay, I'll get this posted, then I'll see about searching through all my other options.
There is no problem that cannot be solved through the proper application of immense levels of firepower.

Eh, for my proposal I'll give you Li Xiangfei's profile from Wiki. It's fairly exhaustive, in that everything we know of her is already there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Xiangfei
The only negative part out of the requests you make is the noncombatant part - she's a good enough fighter to fight Terry Bogard himself to a standstill, and that says something.
King of Fighters can easily be worked into Ranma canon, as nothing directly contradicts the rest. As for delusions of normalcy, well... She IS a martial artist, but she also thinks she eats just barely enough to get by (despite eating MORE than Ranma - I'm not even joking), so yes, she's a bit oblivious to things. In fact, she's not too bright at all, being simpleminded.
Please note she was born in 1982, so if you place Ranma in 1996 like most people do, she's just 14... not too much of a stretch, since Akane is 15 and Ranma himself is 15/16... just keep it in mind.
EDIT: For simplicity's sake:
1 - Female - yes, duh.
2 - Tomboy - yes. She acts very mannish, is incredibly strong and tends to pick fights and act generally unfeminine. Unlike Akane, though, she can actually outfight most people.
3 - Her cannon is not alternate universe, nor does it contradict the other anime picked directly - yes. KoF in general meshes very well with Ranma and SM, at least until the 2k1 edition.
4 - Strong willed - she entered and WON several tournaments against opponents stronger than her just to get free food. If given incentive, she's got an iron will.
5 - A way to get engaged to Ranma - easy enough, she'd do anything for food. And it's hinted her family is the same. She also has Ranma's same tendency to leap without looking, so to speak. So accidents are possible too.
6 - Non-combatnant - sorry, no. Xiangfei is one of the strongest fighters in Southtown and in the KoF universe in general. Her only downfall is she finds it hard to concentrate if she's hungry... which is all the time, really, since she' s perpetually hunting for food.
7 - Delusions of normalacy - Lessee, she believes that she eats very little, she insists it wasn't her fault when King nearly went bankrupt after she ate all her food, and she thinks people challenging her are after her food. Yeah, definitely deluded.

For now I'll stick with scoring my possible candidates. If you're interested after the score, I'll give you a bigger rundown. (This way I don't have to give a ridiculously comprehensive profile on anyone you already know)
Keep in mind I'm just tossing out random possibilities - many of these were mental exercises in 'ye gods, how badly can I hurt my brain concieving of these fiancees'.
Nodoka Miyazaki (Negima)
Female: Yes
Tomboy: No way
Canon: Yep
Strong-willed: ... I don't see her as pushing her suit
Engagement: Easy
Noncombatant: Yeah. She's combat-support at best
Delusions of Normality: 'fraid not
Score: 17
Setsuna Sakurazaki (Negima)
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Not in the 'shameless' sense, but I'd say so
Canon: Easy.
Strong-willed: Hell yeah.
Engagement: Well, it'd be interesting to squeeze it around Motoko's, but it could be worked out
Noncombatant: Nope.
Delusions of Normality: Uh-uh.
Score: 25
Evangeline AK MacDowell (Negima)
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Not especially
Canon: Doable
Strong-willed: Hell yes!
Engagement: It twists my fragile mind, but it can be done
Noncombatant: The girl utterly annihilated a demon-god and found it fun
Delusions of Normality: ... Vampire.
Score: 19
Kasumi Asakura (Negima)
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Rather brash personality
Canon: Same as ever
Strong-willed: I'd say so
Engagement: Potentially doable
Noncombatant: Definitely. She's a spy by talent, not a fighter
Delusions of Normality: Not really
Score: 27
Riku Harada (DN Angel)
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Definitely
Canon: Should be easy enough
Strong-willed: Absolutely
Engagement: Probably doable
Noncombatant: Combat skills equal zero
Delusions of Normality: Not delusional, unfortunately. Perfect candidate otherwise, eh?
Score: 27
Ayane Isuzu (Gatekeepers 21)
Female: Yes
Tomboy: ... Hard to tell. Not in a literal sense, but the attitude you seem to be looking for is there.
Canon: Should be doable, I guess
Strong-willed: Yes, yes, yes
Engagement: Can be done
Noncombatant: She's one of the toughest in her environment
Delusions of Normality: ... She's a mercenary supernatural-hunter.
Score: 25
Now for the really twisted ones! All from Kara no Kyokai. Before being tempted, please note that Azaka's the only one here who can evade the 'psychopathic' designation. 8)
Shiki Ryogi
Female: Yes
Tomboy: She talks like a guy, literally. I'd say so.
Canon: Doable
Strong-willed: To the point of obsession. Although the 'interest' factor may be harder
Engagement: Daughter of what's been described as 'an old family', and the heir
Noncombatant: ... We're talking a girl who has been described as being able to kill God, if he lived
Delusions of Normality: Split-personality disorder, converses with a mage, seems to end up running into and killing every supernatural threat in her area...
Score: Restricting points due to disinterest - 21; Giving points for stubborn - 25
Kirie Fujyou
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Not in the slightest
Canon: Yep
Strong-willed: Not so much. Although I really don't see her being willing to let go of a frequent visitor. I'd give points, I think...
Engagement: Another old family
Noncombatant: She can probably kill the NWC in a night if it proved necessary, even though she can't move from her hospital bed. Although other than straight-out killing, her 'combat' abilities are support at best.
Delusions of Normality: Nope
Score: 19. 21 if you count in the fact that she's not much good at combat
Fujino Asagami
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Hell no
Canon: Yep
Strong-willed: ... Not really.
Engagement: Easy enough
Noncombatant: The girl can outperform Shiki in terms of raw power, and only lost due to lack of actual battle ability
Delusions of Normality: Strongest psychic on record? Check.
Score: 15
Azaka Kokuto
Female: Yes
Tomboy: Has been described as such
Canon: Could be done
Strong-willed: Very much so. Although she's a little too fixated on her brother to push the engagement
Engagement: Scenario already forming, gods save me
Noncombatant: Not entirely, although she is the weakest combatant in her story
Delusions of Normality: Trainee sorceress
Score: Giving points for stubborn - 27; Restricting points for disinterest - 23
Atlan wrote:There must be another season of it or something, cause in the series 1 saw, she had some extra strength, and telekinesis. Nothing about a black hole.

You clearly know nothing of the game or extended universe
The anime pussified everybody. Read the manga if you want something available in English that shows it as it was meant to be. Ciel lost all her agility and you never get to see her fricken huge pile-driver/gun thing, Shiki lost his asskicking 'mood', Nero lost almost everything interesting (he was described as being tougher to destroy than a fricken continent!), Akiha was actually tough enough to threaten the much more powerful Shiki of the game (and utterly pwn Roa), Roa himself even got 'trimmed'... And Arcueid lost a great deal of her physical prowess, not to mention her particularly interesting ability - Imagination Realization, aka 'Marble Phantasm', which allows her to basically manifest anything that can exist in nature: blades of air, a black hole, chains (as seen in the fighting game), a fricken horde of tigers, a bomb in place of someone's precious organs... The limits of her power are only the limits of her creativity. That's completely ignoring her regen - she's a concentration of natural energy, and managed to physically recover overnight from getting chopped into 17 seperate pieces by an ability that can potentially kill God - and you saw that. Keep in mind, too, that most of this is when she's massively limited, ie recovering from being killed by Shiki's 'gift' and still directing most of her powers inward to suppress her craving for blood. And she recovered from a similar 'death' again (that's how she came back at the end of the anime), although that finally pushed her power level low enough that she couldn't supress her bloodlust.
Imagine, for a minute, what she could do if she cut loose. You may now wet yourself :)
Now wet yourself again: her big sister's tougher. And Arc's the potential reincarnation for the template of the True Ancestors, Crimson Moon.
Type-Moon characters have been described by their fans as 'munchkins'.
There is no problem that cannot be solved through the proper application of immense levels of firepower.

The funny thing is that Type Moon characters are complete wimps compared to the upper-level Bastard!! characters, such as the Seraphs, the Hell Kings, Dark Schneider and even Darsch's loyalists such as Kall-Su.
Darsch himself is fairly insane. He escapes from a black hole - twice; manages to defeat a FIRE ELEMENTAL by using his own flames against him (!); revived from ripping his own heart out; was reduced to a head with dangling spine and was just peachy; was reduced to a head, shoulders and one arm and STILL had enough power to save a mortally wounded girl, heal her, and teleport something like ten thousand people away from an exploding castle - all of this while being nearly unconscious.
He ALSO broke through an antimagic aura on an armor forged by the Devil himself, stole the powers of six of the seven Hell Kings, and is the closest thing to a God there is right now in Bastard!!. Hell, the shockwave from his attack wiped out the first four levels of Hell like they were wet paper. And it wasn't even a direct hit.
Talk about munchkin.
Anyway, back on topic... if you want to be really evil, how about using Mamimi Samejima from FLCL? Nothing screams 'troublesome fiancee' like a psychotic pyromaniacal older girl with a selfish streak bigger than Interstate 76, enough mental issues to make Kodachi look sane and a tendency to get in trouble all the time... Fun fun fun.
Here's the info on Mamimi's profile from Wiki:
Samejima Mamimi (サメジマ・マミ実), 17, was Tasuku's girlfriend though she dotes on Naota since his brother left Japan. She attends school infrequently and has pyromaniacal tendencies, smokes a lot, and spends most of her time under a bridge. It is likely that her parents are separated. She has a rather peculiar tendency to name many things after her personal nickname for Naota's brother (and Naota himself) "Ta-kun." It is originally set forth in the story that she has a fascination with fire after her rescue from the elementary school by Tasuku, though later it is revealed that she herself set many fires and is hinted that she was the one who started the fire in her elementary school. She is a high school student (her standard outfit could very well be a high school uniform) but is truant much, if not all, of the time.
Mamimi eminates an aura of benign vapidness that causes much of the cast (especially Naota's classmates) to look upon her with disdain. In fact, Mamimi can be exceedingly destructive - although only when nobody is watching. She spends much of "FLCLimax" exacting retribution against those who have wronged her - only to have her plan backfire. This is not to say she can't be kind or loving; she tries without success to bestow love on Naota, who merely finds her attention discomforting.
She loves taking care of things that are weak-willed, which she leaves when they show some willpower. This ultimately proves a disaster for her when her last adoptee, the terminal core from a robot, goes haywire and overpowers first her and then the military. She also believes Canti to be a manifestation of a fire-starting fallen angel "Cantido", who is really a character from a videogame she plays. At the end of the series, she had left Mabase to become a professional photographer, and Naota mentions that she, for the first time in the series, referred to him by his real name when she left.

For Li Xiangfei you could take a page out of the MA Tea Cerimony or Amazon book and link an eating contest to a wedding tradition. Perhaps working off the belief that eating is tied to internal energy and the more you eat the more powerfull of a fighter you will be/become. Maybe they are like the Charadin's and have some eating related moves (speed training at the table anyone) or competitions/contests. You could go 3 diff ways with this concept-
1) Typical 'Ranma gets himself in trouble thrue competition/fight'- Ranma competed against Li and won or barely lost. Either could work as a qualifier.
2) Typical 'Genma gets Ranma in trouble thrue competition/fight/theft'- Same as option one with Genma subbed in and dumping the responsibility on Ranma. Works really well with a looser pays the tab contest like with the Charadins.
3) A twist of option two. Same contest different loss/ win situation. Instead of the tab/consequenses falling on the participant, have it fall on the family (by name-same as option 2) or school (Anything Goes). Using this method you could have the debtor be Happossai or Kurumi (the hungry sister that Happi told he Soun- anouther member of the school). If the stipulation for Li's family is that they have to try and bring in anyone who can match or beat them in an eating contest than you could throw Usagi into the mix too. Li can pursue family interests (to strengthen it) on many fronts this way. And depending on how you want to roll it- perhaps the tradition is old and not very specific providing preasure from Li's family to 'join with' multiple individuals.
A little misunderstanding goes a long way after all. Who knows, maybe Picolet will pop in to claim Li and Ranma helps her send him packing in a food eating contest. If she cant turn it down it sets up some wonderful tension. If Charadin breaks out some new move it could create some nice suspense too.

Hmm, if you go with this stipulation, Kasumi Todoh can be thrown in as well. She eats almost as much as Xiangfei herself, as her Wikipedia profile mentions.
