I was actually intending to rewrite all the parts already written by the author and then take from my own modified version to finish. I may need some help on sailor moon parts, I only have the Ranma manga to refer from and rely on wikipedia etc. for sailor moon information...

I have to admit, I had started this with the hope that someone better than me would start the process for Vengeance and a Half, which is my favorite unfinished fic (should call it a deadfic or what?)

Warriors of Light and Shadow Take Two
Summary for FF.net: Tribute to Storm Bringer. Two warriors, each fresh from their own losing battle, meet for the first time. (DEAR GOD SOMEONE HELP ME COME UP WITH A BETTER SUMMARY)
Prologue:

It had been a long day for Ranma. Er, a long wee... mon... year? It had been a long time since he stopped keeping track of all the problems in his life. He still knew the three most prominent problems - Fiancees, Enemies, and of course Parents. He wasn't sure which ones were worse.
His fiancees had been particularly jealous since what should have been his wedding - yet another problem, in and of itself. They had bickered, fought, yelled, screamed, ranted, raved, and most importantly seemed to think that beating him up would prove their point. Shampoo would land on him with the infernal bicycle and catch him in a bone-crushing hug (that didn't actually crush his bones - though it hurt, only Ryoga could break his ribs with a bear hug, and only in his girl form - Ranma's Pride Speaking). Ukyo would give him a nice lecture about how he should choose her and only her and then hit him with a spatula if he tried to escape. Akane was only marginally worse than the both of them combined, but secretly he thought that was only because he had to live with her, so she had the opportunity to hit him more. Akane punched him, kicked him, beat him, abused him, and then accused him of cheating or insulting her, though he had to (No, he didn't have to! He didn't! - Ranma's pride speaking) admit he did let his opinions leak through once in a while...
His enemies hadn't gotten worse by that much. No, it was simply the frequency with which they would all gang up on him that got on his nerves. Having to find another new way to use the Hiryu Shouten Ha and still make it a surprise to his foes was getting tiresome and more difficult each day...
His parents were what concerned him now. Mostly because he was standing in front of his mother and she was not looking particularly amused.
"Son, I have heard some bad things about your behavior from your fiancee..." she began, having pulled him into his room for a "chat."
"Which one?" he lamely interrupted, hoping she'd forget her griefs while she pondered.
"Akane. She tells me that you don't treat her well at all." Nodoka turned her frown down even further, making a pained grimace from a dissappointed face.
"She doesn't deserve my respect with the way she treats me." Ranma said, quoting almost exactly from a soap opera he had heard the day before, about a boy who was dumping his girlfriend.
"Respect?" Nodoka suddenly seemed confused, "Oh, no. That's not the problem. She informs me that you haven't even so much as peeped on her yet this past month!"
Ranma was stunned. 'Now I remember why I avoid her so much even though she declared me manly...'
"No, this will not do. You aren't quite as manly as I had originally thought... my son, you will have to do better than this."
Ranma was almost rendered speechless. "She hates me! If I did anything even remotely 'Manly' with one of my other fiancees I'd be killed! What I am supposed to do?"
Nodoka took on another shocked look. "You mean you haven't been doing anything with your other girlfriends? But from what Akane said... that's the reason I thought you were a man amongst men! This is a violation of our family honor. Ranma... I must insist that you perform within the next day or I will have to enforce our contract."
Ranma grew more and more aware of his impending doom with each word. As he frowned and opened his mouth to disagree Nodoka drew her sword.
"Ranma, on the honor of this blade you must have had sex with at least one girl by tomorrow or you will have to die." Nodoka said with all seriousness. She levelled the blade at Ranma menacingly or at least indicatively.
Ranma reacted automatically. His mother's sword was out of her hand and in his in an instant. He looked at it, even as his mother began to realize what had happened, and then grew angry. "This sword has caused me a lot of trouble." He said, almost to himself, and with a mighty swing he had imbedded that evil influence on his life halfway into a bedside table.
Nodoka gasped, and began, "Your honor, our family's honor..."
Ranma snarled. His anger clouded what little judgement he normally had. His past month had been nothing but pain, and for what? Honor? Family? Were they really worth som much? Without realizing what he was doing, he returned his grip to the hilt of the katana and snapped it jaggedly down the center. "This is what I think of that honor!"
Nodoka quivered with rage. "You... You! You have broken the blade that represents the Saotome clan! Out! I have no son!"
Ranma turned white, and looked at the twisted steel he held in his hand. Silently, except for the tinkling of borken glass, he was out the window and down the street before Akane could barge in demanding to know what had caused the noise.
(scene change)

As for using another fan's ideas? That gets back into intellectual property. The characters, settings, and original situations don't belong to the fan, but the plot and any original characters do, as does the prose used in the story. By disclaiming, the fan author gives up the right to his or her work if the owners of the series come up with a similar story, but that doesn't apply to other fans. By US law, anyway, the fan has a copyright to his or her work when published. That's why it's wrong to use another person's fan fiction as a basis for your own without permission.

But again, considering fanfiction is /already/ doing that in general, doing it with other fanfiction isn't much different. HOW many fics out there directly rewrite the beginning of the Ranma manga/anime into words?

It would be a good idea, if someone can gather those good stories, what are abandoned, or forgotten, and put them in a page, to allow new writers to use them as basis for their own stories, or to continue such works
it would require some time to make the full list, but it would be a good effort to aid next generations of writers...

Point taken. From here on out, we need to restrict posts to replies about the story; my first post was to address a question raised about a fan author's use of another fan author's work, and was more or less on topic. However, after that I allowed it to get a bit out of hand, which was my fault.
I'm opening a new topic for the discussion of how law and netiquette bear on fan fiction. All further discussion of it must be held there, not here.

Maybe 'For one Ranma Saotome it had been a long day.... Err, make that week? Month?! Year?!? He let loose a tired groan. At any rate it had been a long time to deal with the constant problems in his life. Saying nothing of the frequent other things that tended to pop up and demand his immediate attention. Though truth be told the unexpected kidnapping or esoteric martial artist could be seen as a breath of fresh air and a temporary reprieve from the more prominent problems that continued to plauge him. The ever ubiquetious fiances, rivals and parents were cancers of their own magnitude to his ever more fleeting good mood. Though he would be hard pressed to decide which of the three was worse. Some could say that, in itself, was at the root of the matter if not the problem entirely.'
Something more like that maybe? Really Im not sure on the best way to present the time intervals at the begining. The last line could simply be rewritten as 'one was the worst', since your talking about one of the three posibilities.

Outline! First Time Ever!
Ranma shall appear in a magic fuku but not as a senshi!
PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU LIKE IT. I want to know if this plot will do alright. It doesn't go much further than Storm Bringer took it and this is because I am in favor of cheap resolution instead of droning on and on with something I didn't invent myself. It goes for prologue - 9 chapters - epologue.
Please to forgive the spelling and grammerous mistakes as it is late, i am tired and the outlines I make are bad to make me laugh when I am writing so I don't get bored.
1.Prologue: To detail the reasons why Ranma and Usagi meet on the streets of Juuban with Sailor Uranus (Haruka Ten'oh) as an adversary. Ranma has been cast out of the clan and holds the bottoms half of the Saotome Honor Blade. Usagi has been disqualified as princess and holds onto the Silver Millenious Crystal. It is raining.
2.Chapter One: To detail Ranma's defeat of Uranus and return to Usagi's home, where he is invited to stay. Usagi makes up a story – she was attacked by some “boys” and Ranma saved her. Usagi's father worries about rape. Ranma attempts to decline but is rather Shanghai'd into staying. Ranma takes a bath and muses about what he'll do about revealing the curse. Usagi walks in on Ranma, but after explanations decides to keep it a secret on the condition that Ranma go to school (he wears not a uniform). In midst, evil contemplates the female influence on Ranma's life.
3.Chapter two: Confrontation at school. Ranma assists Usagi in escaping her former buddies. Nabiki misses Akane, Mousse and Cologne discover Shampoo gone and konatsu is assaulted by Ukyo's kidnapper-o-mat. Ranma destroys a “daimon?” (Think praying mantis) before the scouts arrive. Flashbacks occur, hinting at Ranma in the Silver Millennium and as Usagi's lover as a girl!!! (LESBIANS WOOOOO) On his brow is the crescent moon for a single flash (but he is a girl). Only sailor Mercury detects this, but discounts it as Sailor Moon's energy revealing itself as not the princess's.
4.Chapter Three: Conversion process of fiancees. Kodachi wonders where Ranma has gone. Kuno declares his search for sorcerer. Kasumi “Knows everything will be alright.” Nabiki begins to find Ranma (noting news of a redhead who stops a daimon). Basically a Nerima sidestory chapter but immediately leads to action in later chapters so not a sidestory.
5.Chapter four: Daimon attacks to gather energy? Scouts minus moon arrive to stop them but are beaten down by Akane Ukyo and Shampoo who only leave when Akane begins to remember Ranma and starts to break free (it takes both Shampoo and Ukyo to restrain her as she is the strongest). Ranma and Usagi go out as boy and girl respectively but something seems wrong to them (not wrong wrong but strange as if not the natural state.) Ranma dives into the canal in order to save a doll he has won for her at the fair but when he comes back up as a girl the feeling of wrong goes away and he desires physical contact with Usagi but only manages to hold her hand before the feeling is overpowered by his conditioning against girls touching him (in the vein of the Neko-Ken).
6.Chapter Five: Ranma goes out to get ingredients for a meal he is to cook for his chores at the Tsukino household. He discovers Ami wandering with head injury and honor forces him to help her to the Shrine where he/she is confronted yet escapes. Ami harbors doubt that Ranma is evil but the other scouts are convinced Ranma is just stealing the crystal. Makoto and Rei, the two least injured, go out to look for girl-ranma but only see boy-ranma and Makoto falls in love (He's even better looking than Ryoga, my old Sempai!) (Damn you Ranma!) Musing about Akane's conditioning.
7.Chapter Six: In depth on aliens, one is consumed by desire for Ginzuisho and one is merely reminiscing about how his own wife was subject to the experiments that look on the surface to be what he does to Akane. Ranma and the injuries scouts meet at school and Ranma tries to avoid confrontation but Ukyo and Shampoo appear on the scene to finish the scouts off (having linked the injuries and ages.) Ranma is initially unwilling to fight but begins to defend once it is clear lives are in danger. Again the symbol appears on his face and the outers mistake it for princessness. Mercury detects two silver energy – Ranma's and Usagi's – and one is the princess's and one is not, but she cannot tell which for the fact that Ki is scrambling energy signals of the area. Ukyo and Shampoo are routed by a Healing Activation move that undoes the injuries of the scouts but hurts those who have been implemented by the alien tech.
8.Chapter Seven: Scouts confront Ranma and Usagi after school. Outers this time declare that Usagi must give her brooch to Ranma – to which Ranma laughs and says that if the brooch is his he gives it to Usagi – outers declare that the true princess cannot be Ranma and attack to take the brooch, from which Ranma (Saotome Final Attack) runs away because he thinks that they are basically good people. However, Usagi trips, and Ranma does not beat Uranus in time to stop Neptune from taking the brooch. Neptune jumps back triumphantly but a brainwashed akane takes the brooch.
9.Chapter Eight. Shampoo and Ukyo teleport in flanking akane and the two aliens jump in behind taking the brooch. The insane one snatches it from the rational one and transforms into Warrior of Dark Moon, leading the outers to believe moon has been doing similar for a long time. Ukyo and Shampoo take down the regular scouts while Akane and Dark Moon fight Ranma, rational scientist is cowering. Moon gains courage and jumps into the fight, transforming without the brooch. However, she is weakened, and Dark moon attacks her. Ranma is not fast enough to reach her, so becomes Moon Guardian, sailor suited captain of the royal guard (Derived from Sailor Moon's costume, it has a large shield on the right arm and a massive power fist on the left.) Ranma blocks the attack of Dark moon with the shield, which actually shatters, healing Sailor moon. Moon is returned to regular power, equal to the Dark Moon. They are at a standoff, moon's attack balanced by Dark Moon's Dirge Darkness Devastation. Akane sees Ranma lunge in to help Moon and stops her.
10.Chapter Nine: Akane is prompted to help Moon by seeing Ranma's face. She knocks out Dark Moon, returning him to alien from and ginzuisho. Moon reclaims the ginzuisho and heals all. Ukyo and Shampoo lose their god-power but Akane keeps her own, not needing the healing anymore as she is free. Uranus and Neptune kneel before the princess but she kicks dust at them and declares to the scouts “Try to regain that which you couldn't give to me. You who are without trust for others are not given trust so easily again.” They are disgraced, but vow to earn the trust again. Usagi turn to the good alien. Mumbo jumbo about how a homeworld can never be depleted as long as it's people's spirits live on. Reveals the gem of alien world which scientist takes back and thanks moon, becoming a guardian for his world and revealing somehow that his wife has become a sailor senshi as Moon's healing activated a star seed.
11.Epilogue: Moon has gotten rid of Tuxedo Mask as it is revealed that is was also an arranged marriage. Ranma has transformed as a man and is glad to note he is gifted with armor instead of a fuku as a man though he retains shield and guantlet. Ranma and usagi are out on another date, boy and girl and feeling right though remaining right as ranma is splashed and contemplate only the daunting task of explaining to Usagi's family that not only have they been hosting a man and not a woman but he is Usagi's lover Akane returns to the dojo and begins to practice, far improved, with a note from Ranma offering to train her fresh in her mind. The note ends PS PCHAN IS RYOGA. Ukyo hooks up with konatsu. Shampoo goes after that guy Tuxedo Mask who defeated her after her healing. Ryoga hides with Makoto after being beat up by akane. Mousse and Minako have a date but itll never work and they both know it. Uranus and Neptune cry over spilt milk but vow to never again fail their princess. Pluto winks from the time gate THE END.

Ninsaneja, I'm not too sure how far you've gone along with your plans to write this (since this thread is old now). But I just want to tell you and everyone, that I am probably the only one (other than possibly Comet Moon who I can't find) that has Storm Bringer's draft/incompleted chapter 11 of Warriors of Light and Shadow, that was written over 5 years ago. I just finally managed to dig up the email after so long. T_T The last I heard from him was from 27th of April 2002, and while I still hope that he is alive somewhere, it has been over 5 years since the last contact... That said, I will be uploading the chapter somewhere later tonight when I get home... I'm not sure if what I am doing is right or not, but I think everyone deserves to read it, especially if it's (one of) his last pieces of work...
