Mercurian Kitsune Ranma

For submitting and talking about story ideas. Idea submissions must be at least five paragraphs long, and include plot points, summaries of which characters are involved, and, for fanfiction, how it differs from canon. Both original and fanfiction ideas welcome. Though original works should have more development. Replying posts must give actual commentary, no "GREAT IDEA" or "THIS SUCKS".

Dragon Man wrote:Exactly! :D I'm suddenly getting the image of Amy taking Ranma for a walk in fox form, which Ranma turns into a training exercise to build up Amy's endurance and speed by running away.

Maybe while running away from Amy Ranma runs into a crying Hotaru and tries to cheer Hotaru up. When Amy finally catches up with Ranma, Ranma is already playing with Hotaru.

That does sound good, plus Amy would be so tired from the run she would just enjoy watching Ranma play with Hotaru while regaining her breath.

Yeah I could see the scene in my mind already.
Plus with how lonely Hotaru is she probably wouldn't care if Ranma is like half kitsune or whatever you would call her in this story. A matter of fact Hotaru would probably be glad to meet someone who has some strange power like she has.

She'd be a full Mercurian kitsune.

Okay that makes sense, but did we ever go into why there is a fox on mercury that has ice powers. Or is that one of those things that we don't question.

She could be a Saturnian Kitsune... living as Posessed Hotaru's pet (and maybe mother/friend in private?), swearing on her life to protect Hotaru... then going full Hiroshima on Neptune and Uranus when they try to kill her... :p
Hm... Saturnian Kitsune's powers... Just as Nuke-happy as Saturn? :p

Yeah but this whole forum has been about Ranma as a fox from Mercury so that wouldn't really work at this point.

The easiest explaination would be an indiginous race of Mercury. Alternatives could be members of a space fareing race (thus explaining their existence in earth history in the same fell swoop), or product of a breeding/genetics program.
I think choosing the chozo angle would work well. A space fareing race that had a colony on Mercury (and earth or others-or migrated to earth at some point for evacuation or some such) could easily tie that into the staple that Mercury was the technology R&D for the Silver Mellenium. They were an older race that gave the upcoming empire some support/help.
The magical abilities could either be inate to the species, or even beter, an evolutionary by-product picked up from living on the planet. Given the 'magical creature' aspect of the kitsune it could even be a trait that was 'absorbed' into their magical signiature during an early stage of development or past a certain amount of exposure to something in the Mercurian environment.

That sounds good to me. But would this mean Ranma would get the urge to build a mecha or some other scientifically advanced thing? I can see Amy drooling over a lab that Ranma sets up in a spare closet ala Washu and making the Senshi various devices.

Personally id go with 'inteligence' being a learned trait. Unless the author wants the spring to carry some memories with it. Anouther contributing factor to this would be the average life expectancy of the race. If they have a similar to human lifespan, they could achieve their technology as inherited and their knowledge of how to use/make it as taught. However it could be suggested that the race as a whole exibits inquisitive tendencies. In addition the resonated signiature of a Mercutian(ami) could be explained as the same 'mana seepage' that caused the change in the kitsune (a side effect of living on the planet/being tied to it), and is somehting that he is picking up with his altered sences as a kitsune until he can actually smell or see her.
The 'tech head' ranma angle would also be kind of cool. Plus it would be easy to bring in at a latter than initial point. Give him (and the reader) some time to adjust to these changes, before his fascination with technology becomes apparent. It could also be tied to advanced technology, as the mundane things are relatively primitave, and things like the Mercury computer may have a magical signiature of its own to incite his interest. Maybe a 'mystical tech' or artificer angle.
This in turn could be used as an embelishment to Ranma's learning curve/style of thinking after he is cursed (like a +1 intelect racial bonus). Since tact would be tied to wisdom, he sadly wouldnt see any bonus to his negotiation skill(unless he got it from charisma). At least the bonus dexterity should give him a high enough dodge bonus to get out of the worst of it...(though his strength may have taken a hit when he changed making him somwhat weaker physically (comparitively)).

Can you imagine Usagi piloting a mecha that's just asking for trouble.

I didn't draw this, someone else did, but I can't remember where I found it. But what scares me is who is in the driver's seat.

I can see it already. "What does this button do?" Tokyo is now blown to pieces.............again.
But that pic reminds of the Power Rangers.

True. But I was thinking more along the lines of Usagi's clumsiness causing the mecha to fall and crush many buildings. No where would be safe!!!

Yeah with all the destruction the scouts seem to cause on there own with just magic attacks. Usagi in mecha would be like 100 times worst.
