This isn't a story I'm planning to do myself, but I thought I'd throw it out.
Please give this plot bunny a nice home.
What if, instead of ignoring his children's problems, Soun cared enough about his daughters to do something about them? Even just once?
Shortly after the formation of the Hentai Horde, Akane tells her father about the problem that Kuno has created. The next day, Soun walks her daughter to school. When the Horde appears, he goes into full Demon-head mode and chews them out, ending the ream-out with a statement that anyone who would participate in such an activity was unworthy of courting his daughter. He makes a point of mentioning Kuno by name as being especially unworthy.
The Horde takes the hint and disperses. Kuno, on the other hand, contemplates the import of these events. As the scion of a samurai line, he understands that a father has the right to reject the suit of his daughter's suitors. As a Kuno, he is totally incapable of understanding that the reason that Soun rejected his suit is because Akane asked him to. He applies the bizarre collection of hopelessly inaccurate preconceptions that form the core of what is known as Kuno-logic and comes to a deduction that is (as usual) completely wrong.
The conclusion he comes to is this: Akane loves him dearly and wishes to marry him. However, her father is uncertain that he is a suitable choice for a son-in-law, so he has forbidden the match. Therefore, he must prove himself to be worthy in his eyes before he can court his true love, who is undoubtedly waiting for him to do this so that she can throw herself into his arms.
This changes Kuno's behavior so that he stops trying to attack Akane and instead tries a variety of stupid actions that he thinks will impress her father for some reason. The reduced exposure to the Horde causes Akane to not instinctively mistrust and violently hate all boys that are approximately her age, though she is somewhat wary of their intentions, especially those of boys she doesn't know (or were former members of the Horde).
Now Ranma comes into the equation. In the bizarre fairy tale that Kuno has invented to explain what is going on, Ranma is playing the role of the evil prince who has tricked the King into believing that he is a worthy mate for the princess. Kuno knows that he must expose Ranma as the foul cur he is, and then drive him from the land. Having saved the princess from the evil prince, the King will at last consider him worthy and allow him to wed his daughter, and let them live happily ever after.
This means that Kuno is going to spend his time trying to come up with way to make Ranma do something disgraceful or humiliating so that Akane or Soun will break the engagement, and THEN defeat him in combat. There's a few problems that he doesn't understand. 1: Akane isn't as instinctively distrustful as in the original story, so she won't be accusing/attacking Ranma as often. 2: The marriage is more for the parent's sake than the children's, so the fathers will tolerate quite a lot, and would ignore almost any obstacle to their retirement (Despite the fact that the Tendo/Saotome omiai was a dismal failure - all three daughters rejected Ranma - they chose to treat it as a success anyway); finding something that would cause them to dissolve the engagement will be rather hard. 3: Ranma is WAY out of Kuno's weight class. Nabiki undoubtedly knows all about this scheme, but whether or not she warns her family or just gets some pocky and a good seat is up to the author (I think the pocky is more likely).
This time around, somebody manages to convince Kuno that Ranma and Ranko are siblings. Now Kuno decides that he must prove himself worthy in Genma's eyes as well, so that he can unite the two schools by marrying a daughter of each house. At the same time, he must also find a way to discredit Ranma in Ranko's eyes, as he is prejudicing Ranko against Kuno.
Will any of Kuno's idiotic schemes succeed? I doubt it, but it will be fun to watch, especially once the rest of the NWC shows up to further complicate things.
This plot bunny is not predisposed to any pairings, but the preconditions reduce my primary objection to Ranma/Akane somewhat.
