Ranma as multiple senshi (spoilers for TG's Ten of Two)
Posted: Tue May 08, 2007 10:17 amA long time ago, in a galaxy not far from here, Togashi Gaijin was actively working on a fic called Ten of Two, which I liked very much and am eagerly awaiting an update of (hint, hint!)
In this fic, Ranma is drafted as a replacement for the senshi, all of them at once. And he turns into all ten senshi, all at once. Which sounds very cool, but is probably an absolute pain to write (hence the lack of updates).
My idea, born from fevered dreams and too much World of Warcraft, is Ranma as a replacement senshi, able to switch at will between which planet he's representing, and thus being able to tailor his form to his opponent. Monster shrugs off lightning bolts? Switch from being Jupiter to being Mars, and try fire instead. Or Mercury/frost spells, etc, and either Moon or Saturn for whatever big finish is needed. The problem? The forms "leak" a little of their previous holder's mannerisms and abilities - As Mars, he's extra sensitive spiritually, and sometimes a little on the aloof and arrogant side; as Mercury, his analytical abilities improve but he's more timid and withdrawn, etc.
In a fight, Ranma might start out as Jupiter or Mars, engaging the monster of the day with lightning or fire attacks, then switch to Pluto to bug out since the monster threw the attacks off, Mercury to lay down some cover and think up a plan, Pluto again to port into combat, Venus to snare the enemy, then Saturn to soften it up, and Moon for the big finish. Kind of like various classes in World of Warcraft that switch stances/auras/aspects/feral forms depending on what they're doing.... Note that while the personality changes slightly between aspects, there's no actual separate talking personae - in each form, Ranma will remember being the other forms, and have different opinions of the memories.
As for plots, well I'm pretty terrible at them, to be honest. A big part of it would be Ranma trying to get past some of the worse quirks of the different forms - for instance, Moon doesn't like to train, and so it's pretty hard to actually focus on training while being Moon, especially since there's no Mars to keep nagging, etc; Venus tends to go all unfocused, especially if a cute male wanders into her field of view; etc.
There's plenty of room for more crossovers in a fic like this, too - for some of the reasons stated above, allies would be a great help (like keeping Moon motivated...)
