The Mau That Got Away - Ranma as Sailor Mau

I was minding my business last night when a new idea suddenly began to fester and grow within my mind.

What if during the Sailor Galaxia's conquest of having her Animamates kill the Sailor Senshi of their own planets, Sailor Mau had managed to escape from Sailor Tin Nyanko. She was mortally wounded, but managed to crash land onto Earth near an eight-year-old or so Ranma.

Sailor Mau didn't want her power and abilities to just die away in vain, and so she decided to entrust her powers and everything over onto the young boy as her successor. This had the effect of also turning Ranma into an actual Mau.

Just like he had promised to the now gone Sailor Mau, Ranma would use his newfound abilities to help protect innocents from such things as monsters, demons, criminals, etc.

The idea I had for his outfit was a full body black outfit, cat gloves (Claws strong enough to cut through wood), cat boots, cat ears, cat tail, a gold forehead circlet with a sunburst, and a gold vest. Of course, later on he'd also end up getting the Jusenkyou curse, and that with the curse, the outfit would also change into a sort-of fuku when in female form.

My main question though, is if all Mau have a crescent moon on their forehead, or if Luna, Artemis, and Diana were the only ones.

I think all Mau have the mark or at least a mark on their forehead. Afterall when it gets covered they end up unable to think. Or was that just a handicap of Luna's?

I wonder how you will get Sailor Mau and Ranma to even have a conversation that timing is still clearly after the Catfist training. Just the encounter alone has a good chance of triggering a Nekko-ken fit.

The Crescent Moon is the symbol of the Moon Kingdom, so the other Mau wouldn't have it. As an example, Sailor Tin Nyanko was a Mau, and she didn't.

The Moon mark is a weakness of all three Moon Cats, BTW. When Nyanko attacks them, she forces them into their human forms, and then damages the moon marks. This turns them back into cat form, and they act like ordinary injured cats.

Something that rarely ever gets mentioned in fan fiction is that Luna and Artemis weren't the last of their kind. They were the only two Moon Cats, but the Mau were untouched by the fall of the Moon Kingdom and lived on their homeworld up until the Galaxia story arc, when Sailor Mau was killed by Sailor Tin Nyanko and the planet was destroyed. Presumably, since they were a star-faring culture, other Mau who were off-world at the time would still be alive afterward.

Trivia: Phobos and Deimos, Rei's crow companions, are also aliens. They are from the planet Coronis, which had its own senshi, Sailor Coronis. They were attacked by Sailor Lead Crow, who had killed Sailor Coronis, in the Galaxia arc.

Spokavriel: It wasn't only Luna who had the problem. Artemis, Luna, and Diana apparently lost their ability to speak and all when the mark on their forehead had been injured. So it might be that there's a possibility of them having different marks on their forehead.

I should also change the age of Ranma a bit. It just gets a little confusing when one source says he was around six at the time of the Neko-ken, and another says 10. I just made a habit out of alternating, but I might make him six.

The Fish, Rice and 2 Pickles Omai was clearly on a "Training Trip" Before the 10 year long one that started when he was 6.

If you make Ranma a Mau before Nekkoken I don't see how the results can be the same. But making the encounter later on after the training you could either have the encounter with Human form Mau or use one of the other plot devices of Ranma somhow being able to sence the difference between "C ca c Them things" and Mau.

KH, if you don't follow up on this idea, I will personally hunt you down and sic a horde of pokegirls on you. This sounds like an awesome idea if you can work out the plot's details. I assume Ranma will be dealing with Galaxia and the Animamates at some point? Can we expect to see a lot of the other Senshi or will this be a primarily Ranma-centric story? And what about the Starlights? Will they appear at some point and if they do, will they be the manga or anime versions?

I'm working on the first chapter right now. Something I was thinking was that since Ranma gains those Sailor Mau powers at six-years-old (Yeah, I decided to change it to six), I was considering having him learn about his abilities, use them to fight against random monsters, and other things as he grows into his abilities. I'm also trying to think of how many years it should be before the inner Senshi awaken. There's still a lot of things to flesh out. I do plan on Ranma facing off against the Animamates at one point.


And yes, an original idea located within the bowels of Sailor Moon/Ranma 1/2 crossovers. It has got to be the end of the world or something

A Sailor Senshi from outside of the main Solar System who should have been killed, choosing a six-year-old MALE Ranma as a successor, MALE Ranma becomes the first (not counting Pluto) Senshi to have awaken on earth. When Jusenkyou comes around, he'll end up having access to a male and female form. The Senshi outfit between the two forms will have different modifications.

I was also wondering what Ranma's attacks could be. I actually thought of a magical yarn ball attack and a cat screech.

My mind went around this idea last night right before I went to bed. I couldn't hardly sleep because the idea seemed so interesting

Cat Scratch Fever: A variation on the Amaguriken using Ranma's claws. If you want to have Ranma's status as a Mau make him immune to the Neko-ken, you could still use the ki claws with this technique (though they'd be magic instead of ki).

The cat screech has actually been done; Moon's hairpieces amplified her wailing in the first episode and let her stun her opponent. You could do something similar with Ranma and have him consciously use it instead of accidently like Usagi. The ball of yarn sounds more like a really cheesy monster attack; I'm envisioning a dance and pose routine followed by a massive yarn ball falling out of thin air to crush Ranma's target. Good for comic relief, but I'd personally prefer a yarn whip.

This is incredibly fun to try and figure out.

Just try not to give Ranma any "WTF?!" attacks, *coughstargentleuteruscough* and if you do, make Ranma's reaction match what you think the reader's will be.

Oh, and whatever you do, please don't follow the manga's Stars plot very closely. I'd rather not watch the girls get killed off over the course of your fic.

Hmm how about for the Yawn ball attack he sends out the magic yawn balls, then when they hit they explode an wrap around his target. This will leave them open to someone elses attacks.

From what I remember, I don't think Sailor Mau ever came to the Earth. A Random Mau would be doable, since they were a star-traveling people, but Sailor Mau? That would be a breach of duty, akin to the president of the US taking a year-long vacation to Tahiti. She couldn't just leave her post for extended lengths of time.

I agree with lwf58, but I think there could be a solution. Planet Mao is attacked by a spacefaring race that uses biological weapons to kill the entire population. Sailor Mao is the only one immune to the disease due to her magic and is overcome with grief, but goes out to seek the last remaining Mao she senses on planet Earth. Unfortunately, she isn't an engineer and the spaceship she took hadn't been checked over before takeoff, nor is she a skilled pilot, and she crashlands on earth, and stumbles out of her spaceship in her delierium as it's cloaking device activates, slightly injured with a concussion.
Genma finds her and tosses her in a bag with a few other cats to bring to the neko-ken pit. Mao wakes up once she's been healed by her magic and manages to get out of the pit, and finds the neko-ken manual after hiding and spying on Genma and Ranma. She feels sorry for Ranma who hasn't eaten properly in weeks as it's just the start of the training trip and he isn't fast enough to protect his food from Genma properly in 'speed and dexterity training' (Genma's excuse for pigging out, he doesn't really give Ranma a fair chance, and Ranma barely gets anything to eat), and that he has such a horrible father that would do this sort of thing to him.
Mao's powers have weakened in her depression, and after seeing Genma spar with Ranma, she knows she isn't strong enough at the moment to defeat Genma and rescue Ranma. Ranma at this point likes cats, which is one of the reasons Genma goes with the neko-ken over some other insane animal inspired training. Sailor Mao speaks to Ranma when Genma is asleep and tries to convice him that what Genma is doing is wrong and he should run away, but Ranma is still loyal to his father, although he promises not to tell Genma about Sailor Mao. Sailor Mao is trying to sense the other Mao at this point, but having trouble, as she is having trouble finding food to eat and her powers are still weakened by her depression.

Sailor Mao then notices the energy of other senshi, unawakened, on this planet, and realizes that they may need help in the future, remembering stories of the Moon Kingdom and remembering the Mao here were courtiers of the Moon Kingdom once. She realizes that the help of Sailor Mao would be beneficial to them, but is unable to bring herself to wish to fight to help them when her own planet just had all life on it destroyed and she still feels terrible about her failure to protect it.

The day before the neko-ken training is to start she sees Ranma save a kitten from getting eaten by a starving tomcat in the pit that he saw. She realizes Ranma has a pure heart crystal, and is capable of weilding Celestial powers, examining him furthur with her telepathic Mao abilities, she discovers that Ranma's mind isn't that of a normal male child, but a female one, and has a barely detectable permanent magic aura about 'him' that is powered by his spirit force. Examining Genma reveals that he wanted a son so he ensured that his wife had a son with a magic potion he bought that was meant to do that. In actuality it is a permanent magical transformation that when the potion is imbibed by a mother with a baby in the womb it transforms the baby into a boy if the baby is a girl and does nothing if the baby is a boy, since it latches on so early while the child's own energy systems haven't stabalized their own defenses, it is very difficult to remove that sort of magic, and if often lingers even in death and it can be permanent, rather than fade once overpowered by the child's energy, or kill them by feeding off their energy which isn't adapted to constant drain.

Sailor Mao also can tell Ranma has a close alignment with cats, to the point of nearly being a spirit folk cat person, and was a Mao in a past life. She decides to give up her own life, which she has wanted to do for some time, but coudn't bring herself to do as long as there were still some Mao alive and she had her duties as their princess, and grant her powers to Ranma, who would revert to her true form whenever she transforms into Sailor Mao. This would also grant Ranma her telepatic abilities and she would transfer her memories and knowledge to him, but without the feelings connected, that Ranma as the new Sailor Mao would be able to access by meditating.

Sailor Mao convinces Ranma to go through the oaths for Sailor Mao, explaining things in his child-like understanding and allowing him to know that his father didn't know 'the stork was bringing a girl, but feeding his mommy a magic potion before she came made her a fake boy' and that Ranma should keep the identity of Sailor Mao and what she's learned from the current Sailor Mao and the powers she gains except a bit of spirit folk cat person powers and the Sailor Mao fighting style (pretending it's the neko-ken) secret from Genma, and that Ranma can transform back and forth to the secret super heroine form. She explains that she has lived longer than she wishes, and Ranma has a better future in store, so she is going to go on to her own next life and forget this one, Ranma not understanding that she is committing suicide by giving him her powers.

Sailor Mao makes it so that her body disappears as she gives Ranma her powers, and Ranma gets access to subspace where his transformation items are stored, currently he can only use the base one, and basic knowledge of magic, which he starts practicing in secret from Genma, and occasionally transforming when Genma is asleep or drunk somewhere and he's off on his own and going and doing super heroine type things as 'Sailor Neko-chan' according to the news. Ranma's telepathic powers allow her to foil a lot of Genma's mistakes and make up with the Kounji's who she finds out Genma had recently cheated, and help them find their missing yatti, and that Ukyo is a girl. Feeling a bit more loyalty to his first and only friend Ukyo, Ranma reveals that she is really a girl and Sailor Mao, and that magic had made her into a 'fake boy', but makes Ukyo promise to keep her secret. Ranma also clears up with the other girls in Ukyo's village that Ukyo didn't get engaged, and was 'tricked by an old man', which causes her not to be ostracised socially. Ranma then returns to Genma, having only been gone a couple days while Genma was stuck in jail for a night for getting caught stealing food by Sailor Mao, who he doesn't know is his own 'son'.

Sailor Mao's adventures continue as she gets older, when Ranma meets Ryoga and senses Ryoga's lost curse, Sailor Mao goes and finds Ryoga and cures the curse with her developing magical skills, and creates a magic locket for Ryoga that if one of his relatives holds and says a special phrase it will break their curse as well, so he can go looking for them after Jr. High. Ryoga makes friends with Ranma... things can continue from there, I'm not sure how you'd want it... just some of my ideas, sorry if I went a bit overboard.
