Ranma insert into Persona 3/4
Posted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:49 pmThis has been nagging at me ever since I've been playing the....well, let's just say a lot of Persona 4.
A Persona in the Shin megami tensei series is a reflection of your inner self, displaying your true power and harnessing it against the shadows....For a Ranma that has been transmitted into the land of either Persona 3 or 4, (not sure yet, it would probably be actually more interesting to have Ranma go into 3 for the journey, come out/go unconscious for the answer, and come back into 4, and have returning P3 characters, but I digress).
My main "gimmick", if you will, is that Ranma's persona is his male form....since he's stuck in his female form, seemingly due to the magic that personas require. After all, you can't display your inner personality if you already look like it on the outside. This could also tie into the contract that Igor could have him sign....and the thread that only persona can defeat shadows, no matter how good a chi attack is. That's not to say that there won't be ANY damage, but from anything less than a Shiryo hoten ha, the boss enemies will shrug off anything, and the generics can take more punishment from Ranma personally than Ryoga could. (This is debatable, of course, but having Ranma just chi-blast after chi-blast would get tiresome rather quickly)
This would be a cross between the humor of Ranma and the darkness of Persona's underlying concept, either the fact that shadows are going to kill the entire world, or a murderer who is running rampant throughout a small, sleepy town.
I was thinking of a potential Ranma/Mitsuru relationship if anything, not sure Ranma would be interested, it would depend on when in the manga/anime he would go into the game.
I think Ranma would take the place of the main character in that s/he retains the ability to learn new abilities....but instead of manifesting alternate personae, his male form begins to take on slightly different characteristics depending on the "elemental" attacks he tries to use, ice, fire, wind, lightning, light, or dark.
If Ranma pulled out, and any romance was developed, it would be interesting to see Mitsuru, Yukari...whoever, in the real world. With Ranma training the Persona cast in addition to the massive amounts of battles against shadows, the Persona cast would be likely to hold their own against any NWC....but again, not sure If I wanna pull Ranma out entirely, or just have him go comatose at the end of the journey. Too many fics have Ranma and his girlfriend toasting the NWC when they return from -insert universe here- land, but it's a thought.
This is still rather rough and I still have other works in the process, but any ideas are appreciated.
