Zi-Roh Hour - A Time of Pitching
Sorry about the topic title. It's a running gag for the chapter titles in the fanfic I'm brainstorming.
I've already got the first chapter finished and the second chapter outlined, but I'd like everyone else's opinion on the idea before I work on it any more.
The general idea of the fanfic is that Akane is cursed to turn into Ranma.
Here's how this Ranma ½ alterverse works:
Ranma and Genma lived and trained approximately 900 years before the start of the manga. Meaning, they don't exist in modern-day Japan.
The Saotome men still go to China. There, they meet the four ruling powers of Jusenkyo and their patron deities:
Amazons - Garlic the Wise (Tortoise; Historian)
Musk - Aniseed the Strong (Dragon; Herb's ancestor)
Avians (Phoenix People) - Saffron the Spirited (Phoenix; Full-Power)
Elves - Sichuan the Brave (Tiger)
After some mishaps and blunders, Ranma stays with the four groups and continues his training with them. He learns many of their fighting styles and techniques. He also learns of an ancient prophesy.
Every 500 years, a calamity rises from Jusenkyo and threatens to turn the world into nothingness. This is called "Zi-Roh." To counter Zi-Roh, a receptive soul is imbued with the powers of the four deities. Zi-Roh is stopped, but the receptive soul perishes to become the next Zi-Roh 500 years later.
Ranma is the receptive soul this time and isn't told about the whole thing until the last moment, Zi-Roh Hour. He swears to break the cycle once and for all, and partially succeeds.
Zi-Roh is supposedly gone for good, but Ranma still doesn't make it out alive. He drowns in Jusenkyo, thus creating the "Spring of Drowned Hero."
With Zi-Roh Hour no longer a threat, the four Jusenkyo powers war with each other for dominance over the land. The Elves disappear, the Musk are wiped to near extinction, and the Amazons and Avians call a truce in order to lick their wounds and rebuild their armies.
[In the fanfic, you only get small peeks at all this. Perhaps it can be made into a sidestory fanfic at a later time.]
900 years later, everyone has forgotten about Zi-Roh.
The Elves had left Jusenkyo and spread out among China and even Japan. However, Human civilization threatens to destroy their communities and way of life. In order to reclaim their lands, they need power. One group returns to Jusenkyo and steals samples of each spring. The Amazons find out and give chase, which leads everyone to Nerima.
During a fight between an Amazon and one Elf who is transporting the Jusenkyo water, Akane gets involved. She gets accidentally cursed with water from the Spring of Drowned Hero, turning her into Ranma with many of his skills and abilities (Ranma is dead, and his soul is not inhabiting her body at all). However, those who know of Jusenkyo repeatedly mistake it for Spring of Drowned Man. All records concerning the Spring of Drowned Hero were lost or never created, so not even the Guide knows about it.
That's all that's needed to be divulged for now.
The first half of the fanfic (12 chapters) takes place in Nerima and focuses on Akane and how she must accept "Ranma" in her life. The chapters are fairly episodic in that Akane unlocks a little more of Ranma's power - through muscle memory - in order to overcome the monster/opponent/challenge-of-the-day.
The second half (12 chapters) brings Akane to China. Guess why.
So, what does everyone think? Is the idea interesting enough to go through with it? (Before anyone asks, even though Ranma is gone, Akane will still meet the major players of Ranma ½.)
