Zi-Roh Hour - A Time of Pitching

Sorry about the topic title. It's a running gag for the chapter titles in the fanfic I'm brainstorming.
I've already got the first chapter finished and the second chapter outlined, but I'd like everyone else's opinion on the idea before I work on it any more.
The general idea of the fanfic is that Akane is cursed to turn into Ranma.
Here's how this Ranma ½ alterverse works:
Ranma and Genma lived and trained approximately 900 years before the start of the manga. Meaning, they don't exist in modern-day Japan.
The Saotome men still go to China. There, they meet the four ruling powers of Jusenkyo and their patron deities:
Amazons - Garlic the Wise (Tortoise; Historian)
Musk - Aniseed the Strong (Dragon; Herb's ancestor)
Avians (Phoenix People) - Saffron the Spirited (Phoenix; Full-Power)
Elves - Sichuan the Brave (Tiger)
After some mishaps and blunders, Ranma stays with the four groups and continues his training with them. He learns many of their fighting styles and techniques. He also learns of an ancient prophesy.
Every 500 years, a calamity rises from Jusenkyo and threatens to turn the world into nothingness. This is called "Zi-Roh." To counter Zi-Roh, a receptive soul is imbued with the powers of the four deities. Zi-Roh is stopped, but the receptive soul perishes to become the next Zi-Roh 500 years later.
Ranma is the receptive soul this time and isn't told about the whole thing until the last moment, Zi-Roh Hour. He swears to break the cycle once and for all, and partially succeeds.
Zi-Roh is supposedly gone for good, but Ranma still doesn't make it out alive. He drowns in Jusenkyo, thus creating the "Spring of Drowned Hero."
With Zi-Roh Hour no longer a threat, the four Jusenkyo powers war with each other for dominance over the land. The Elves disappear, the Musk are wiped to near extinction, and the Amazons and Avians call a truce in order to lick their wounds and rebuild their armies.
[In the fanfic, you only get small peeks at all this. Perhaps it can be made into a sidestory fanfic at a later time.]
900 years later, everyone has forgotten about Zi-Roh.
The Elves had left Jusenkyo and spread out among China and even Japan. However, Human civilization threatens to destroy their communities and way of life. In order to reclaim their lands, they need power. One group returns to Jusenkyo and steals samples of each spring. The Amazons find out and give chase, which leads everyone to Nerima.
During a fight between an Amazon and one Elf who is transporting the Jusenkyo water, Akane gets involved. She gets accidentally cursed with water from the Spring of Drowned Hero, turning her into Ranma with many of his skills and abilities (Ranma is dead, and his soul is not inhabiting her body at all). However, those who know of Jusenkyo repeatedly mistake it for Spring of Drowned Man. All records concerning the Spring of Drowned Hero were lost or never created, so not even the Guide knows about it.
That's all that's needed to be divulged for now.
The first half of the fanfic (12 chapters) takes place in Nerima and focuses on Akane and how she must accept "Ranma" in her life. The chapters are fairly episodic in that Akane unlocks a little more of Ranma's power - through muscle memory - in order to overcome the monster/opponent/challenge-of-the-day.
The second half (12 chapters) brings Akane to China. Guess why.
So, what does everyone think? Is the idea interesting enough to go through with it? (Before anyone asks, even though Ranma is gone, Akane will still meet the major players of Ranma ½.)

err
Why is this even a ranma fic?
The only thing remotely ranma you have besides using some names is a magic curse.
Fix the names, put the curse on the a magic stick of ass wackier and you got your self an original fiction.

The same logic could apply to countless other fanfics.
True, cutting Ranma out of Nerima and pasting him as far away as I could essentially took away everything that held canon Ranma ½ together. But like I said, this is an alterverse.

I am afraid I have to agree with DCG on this one. You could just make the guy who died creating the spring of drowned hero an OC and it would have no effect on the story. Sure its funny that Akane looks like Ranma when splashed, but who would get the joke? Ranma is 900 years dead, he has no mutiple fiancees, probably never was cursed himself if I am not mistaken. And Akane would not suffer the Neko-ken or a fear of cats even.
If you have a reason to actually use Ranma lets hear it and if its a good one we will likely shut up, but I am afraid that I just don't see anyway for it to be him.
Here are some other things you will have to deal with first:
Happosai: it originally was Genma and Soun who sealed him away, it took both of them, not that Soun couldn't do it, but if he did train alone under Happosai I doubt he would have only half the school.
Soun and Akane's Training: This is completely open, but without Genma training Ranma, if Soun broke down like he did in Cannon, Anything goes is dead.
Akane and Fiancees: Soun proved that he was almost as bad as Genma with selling off his children, remember the 'Picolet Chardin' insident. without ranma to bail them out Akane would be engaged to that family, or perhaps Kuno to continue the family line.
the first two are important, where as the third may be less so.
By simply putting Genma and Ranma back 900 years you are rewriting the entire back story to Ranma 1/2 there is very little actually tieing it to cannon.
As to what you said about a lot of fan fiction not being close to cannon, you are correct, but if you want honest feedback to help make your story better then average (not that hard really) then we will help as best we can.

Well, I just wanted to try something different...
I was afraid that if I had kept Ranma in Nerima, he'd somehow steal the show. His competitive nature and pride wouldn't allow Akane becoming a martial arts prodigy and jumping head-first into danger go quietly. And using Ranma to receive the receptive soul's body (through female Ranma) just sounded so...cliché and boring when I thought about it. In the end, Akane just seemed like the most interesting choice.
As for Akane being betrothed to someone by Soun, I think I can work around that. The fic takes place between Akane's first day of high school and the time Ranma is suppose to show up in the manga, and the "Date Akane" group has just started. Since Akane hasn't gotten used to it yet, she constantly rants about Kuno's idiocy at home. All Soun hears is potential wedding bells.
Happosai: This can be done two ways.
1) Happosai is also in Ranma and Genma's time. He trains Genma and Soun's ancestor, and the school is split. Obviously the Saotome line and style doesn't continue, but the Tendo style may have survived through the years, if perhaps a little deviated from the original.
2) Happosai is where he should be and trains either Soun by himself or Soun and some other student who got suckered along. Since that other student is no Genma, Soun needed outside help to get rid of Happosai. Potential fiancé here.
Either way, this leads to Soun and Akane's training, which has already been established by the end of the first chapter and is a major plot point to be fleshed out in future chapters. When Soun's wife died, he, as you said, just broke down, although in the opposite direction you'd expect. He throws himself into Akane's training and pushes her to her limits. So far, in fact, that she gets severely injured. After that, Soun just gives up and leaves Akane to train herself.
Do you think any of this could work? And what else needs to be addressed?
By the way, I appreciate all the feedback I get.

I divided my post into my recommended alterations to make it as inline with Cannon as I could, then I offered points to your follow ups to my points from my last post.
As to trying something different, different is good, but remember to honor your source material, otherwise there is no reason to use it.
---
Well first I recommend you drop the Ranma is born 900 years in the past. That is your biggest obsticle to this fic. Second Yes get Akane cursed to be the Hero.
If you must have Ranma in the past just use 'Random Magical Item A' to 'accidently' send him back in time 900 years. That way you can have Ranma 'drown' and Akane get a curse to look like him, I recommend against it if you are going with a Ranma/Akane pairing in the end, or at least cure Akane before Ranma returns to his time.
Then you can do a parallel of both Ranma and Akane dealing with the problems according to your fic idea.

Happosai (1): This would completely change who Soun is since he never trained under Happosai.
Happosai (2): This would even further remove this Ranma from his Cannon life.
(Sorry but I have to say these so that you hear this before the reviewers come)
As to arranging Kuno for that reason, Soun isn't that dumb, Akane would cook for him for a year if he pulled that. Then again he just might have done it, perhaps Kuno Seinor was the one that approached Soun. And since there is no Saotome/Tendo Pledge to save her...
As to Akane's Training, that is a gamble with that type of training. If you go with that you will need to battle consistance within your own fic.

Is what I want really too farfetched to be a Ranma fic?
Who is my target audience?
I thought about these questions all night - which I should have done sooner - and came to my conclusion. You people are right; this should be an original fic instead of a Ranma fic.
Since it no longer has any right to be here, I request that this topic be closed.
