I finished reading Sakura Ganbaru (only two volumes) and I’m sure it would make for a great Ranma crossover.
Here’s a short summary of the manga for those who haven’t read it. Sakura Kasugano wants to become a great street fighter like her idol, Ryu. Her sensei is Dan Hibiki and under his guidance and her own natural talent she learns and improves very fast. She learns Dan’s special moves and adapts them to her fighting style. In a tournament shr almost defeats Ken Masters. She then decides to travel the world in search of her idol and fight strong opponents at the same time to improve her fighting style. Dan accompanies her since he’s already been around the world and is a rather decent guide.
The fic takes place right after Sakura’s battle with Ken. Instead of traveling to Hong Kong right from the start Sakura decides to investigate the Nerima ward after she has heard rumors that it is the home of a lot of powerful martial artists and she might find Ryu there or clues as to his whereabouts.
However, she was prepared for all the weirdness in the district. As she walks though the streets she witnesses a battle between Ranma, Ryoga, Kuno and Mousse. After Ranma defeats them with his Hiryu Shouten Ha he walks away in a bad mood. Another waste of his time. Over the last few months he’s got really fed up with his life, the constant challenges, rivals and fiancées. All he does nowadays is fight against idiots who have either a grudge against him or have somehow been conned by his father.
He’s really getting annoyed when he sees a girl run up to him and challenge him to a duel. He hasn’t seen the girl before, but he knows that it was either a fiancée or a new rival.
Surprisingly enough the girl grins and he can’t detect any hidden motives. She just wants to fight for the fun of it, which is refreshing and Ranma accepts. And Ranma enjoys the fight a lot. This is what martial arts are really about. Challenging strong people not because of a grudge, but because they want to improve and learn new styles. Ranma hasn’t had that much fun in months and quickly recognizes the girl’s potential although she’s not up to his level. The fight even allows him to get rid of some of the stress that has been accumulating over the months and after the fight he’s visibly relaxed and enjoys talking with her. Imagine that, a girl who didn’t want anything from him.
Sakura tells him about her quest and it strikes a chord with him. This is what he’s been missing these last few months. Real challenges. He realizes that he has been entirely too passive since he came to Nerima, only reacting to attacks and only learning new techniques to counter his enemies’ techniques. Not once has he learnt a new move just for the fun of it and to get better. He realizes that he’s been slowly losing his drive and that he has lost a lot of his fighting spirit.
He then decides to act selfishly for once and to follow Sakura on her quest, consequences be damned. Of course, the NWC doesn’t agree, but he doesn’t care. He knows that the sedentary life is not for him. He has heard of Ryu of course from some of the people he met while traveling with his father (could be any of the Street Fighter characters), but he’s never met him.
