Ok, so I've had this idea running laps inside my skull for almost two weeks now and I need to vent it out in a way which might get some criticism on it.
Alright, so we start out knee deep with Ranma talking with Setsuna inside the Tendo's dojo. She's trying to talk him into letting her shunt him off into the past(Silver Millennium time-frame) to do something which will keep the current timeline stable/the same. It isn't helping her case that she's completely in the dark as to what exactly Ranma's supposed to do in the past as her future self decided not to tell her this but emphasized the fact that Ranma has to go voluntarily or else bad things happen. Ranma's also not to keen on the whole magical girl trying to do 'magic' on him, since it hasn't worked out in his life so far and eventually decides to say she's a loon and walk out of the dojo.
This is when the entire universe changes into the full crossover and no one blinks an eye. Seems Ranma's actions were detrimental to the whole 'save the moon kingdom' effort as his involvement threw off all sorts of contingency plans which eventually caused the Silver Millennium's downfall... well, that would have happened had he been sent back in time. Since he didn't go back in time, the Silver Millennium survived Beryl's attack and continued on, though not without considerable damage to it's infrastructure.
Over time, the Moon Kingdom and all the associated Sol worlds reorganized into the Silver Confederacy, a democratic republic checked by a joint royal council. They continued magical and technological advancement down separate trees as magic and hard technology don’t really like each other. Through a rare breakthrough, Confederate scientists were able to meld the two sometimes to create magitech, but even to the ‘present time’ it remains a very hit or miss venture. Eventually, the Silver Confederacy was able to find a way to 'jump' starships to the Alpha Centauri binary system via a revolutionary magitech system. This led to a massive boom into galactic exploration and colonial expansion...
As expected though, this colonial initiative also lead to rebellious malcontent and eventual uprising on colonial worlds. Though the Silver Confederacy was able to maintain control of star systems within a certain range of the Sol system, a good amount of single system governments fissioned off and a few even combined into their own multi-system governments. As it stands right now, in AF-8354 (Aether Flux-magitech theory which led to jump travel), the Silver Confederacy is in a Cold War with the expansionist driven Ammarian Directorate which has conquered quite a few nearby single government star systems.
Note: All this shit happens without exposition in the story until an appropriate time.
So, Ranma keeps the gender shifting, it's not a 'curse' though but an adverse magical effect he picked up during his and Genma's training trip. Genma took hims across the known galaxy for this trip, since staying on just one planet is asking for weakness since one doesn't know what gravity/environment a true martial artist will fight in. The 'curse' is actually gained when they are both captured on the colonial planet during an Ammarian raid and get experimented on by said Ammarians in an effort to induce further improvement in the human race without using their own populous in the testing, since testing on one's population is bad for morale and all...
Ranma gets saved by a covert raid on the Ammar facility he's being held in after he gets the 'curse' by Confederate forces but Genma isn't among those rescued. This gives Ranma and the reader sufficient reason to initially dislike the Ammar and understandable reasons why Ranma joins the Confederate covert ops ranks; get back at the Ammar for being dicks and try to find his father. He's also trying to find a way to completely remove the 'curse' which is triggered by excessive magic usage, and considering this universe is magic heavy it will trigger around the same amount as the canon curse triggers.
He's leader of a three man team who mainly target Ammar sites for espionage, saboteur or rescue missions. As previously stated, Ranma's the leader but he's also the main physical combatant if things get hairy. He has his hand-to-hand skills, but also uses melee and ranged weapons when needed. He also is able to summon a magitech combat suit, that all three have, which is tailored to increases his offensive and defensive capabilities, but it also triggers the curse as well; which his companions jab him with, saying he's a magical girl of sorts.
Daisuke takes the technical side of things, being a technomage. Though technomages don’t show up on standard magic detection screenings and current science has no definite reasoning behind them, technomages are very sought after as they have the ability to resonate with technology and magitech on a level non-technomages have no way to achieve. This allows the team to break into normally unbreakable computers and hijack dangerous military hardware, all for the greater good… and grand explosions.
Hiroshi fills out the team by being the pure magic wielding mage he is. Fireballs, flight, illusions, silence, short-range teleport; you name it, he might be able to cast it... or at least something which might fit the need at hand. That is, as long as he isn't trying to sneak into the girl's showers via improved illusion again.
The team get's it's orders straight from the head of Shadow Ops... Setsuna (who else). She's a little more limited in this universe, though, with the Time Gates being lost to a temporal bomb during the Beryl Insurrection (the prevention of which would have been the only 'good' event that Ranma would cause of if he had gone back in time). Also, she's not a part of the Royal Council, since it was decreed that the Senshi were 'too powerful' to interfere with the checks and balances system instated in the reorg of the government. There's also the fact that she's the only immortal of the Senshi, due to her involvement with time magic and what should have been a long career with the time gates...
So, that's pretty much the entire universe setup I've thought up, minus the tech tree which the universe has and the actual missions they'd go on, but I'm toying around with the idea of them eventually finding Genma as a 'successful' experiment which is why he wasn't rescued with Ranma. I also don't know where the rest of the Ranma cast would fit in or how many to bring in, if any, later on.
Well, let me know your thoughts or comments and hopefully this allows me to think of other things than JUST THIS! GAH!
