Well, the "proper" Daoist form of the Tai Chi T'u (taijitu in jp) is white (yang/male) on the top & left, black (tin/female) on the bottom & right.
I haven't read any of the WoF books, so I wasn't aware that Jordan had made such a hash of the symbol <g>.
