Non Ranma anime/manga cast's evil rankings

Now that we seem to sort of have some sort of sturdy level of an evil cast ranking from the Ranma cast forum, let's say we do it for any anime/manga we please, eh?

1 - "Good Guy"

2 - "Average Joe"
2.5 - "Mostly Harmless"

3.5 - "Highly Questionable"

4.5 - "Very Nasty"

I can start it off with some anime's I've seen, but once again their my uneducated opinion so anyone can gladly argue them:

I agree that Kurama is probably a 3, 2.5 at best though that's probably pushing it (his selfless behavior is limited to his mother and close friends, with people outside that circle he's polite, but nothing more), but Youko Kurama, his original self, would probably be a 4. Yukina would be a 1. Keiko would be a 2. Genkai I'd put somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5.

In the flashback where he first meets Hiei, isn't he acting as the unofficial guardian-against-demon-attacks of the town he's in? I vaguely seem to recall him making some kind of statement about how a serial killer demon would "meet the one who protects this place" or something to that effect, but I could be misremembering.

I'd say that is, too. In the case that someone angers him enough, he'll release some of that good old Yoko Kurama ruthlessness, the two most starking examples I can think of being the fight with Roto during the Dark Tournament and the "hate tree" he uses on Elder Toguro at the end of the Chapter Black saga. He can be just as ruthless as Hiei when the need comes.

Actually, come to think of it does anyone think that Kuwabara may not be quite a 1? If I'm right, he, too, have his occasional shady spots, even if he all in all a better person than most of the other guys in the Spirit Detective group.

Tsukasa - Varies between 2.5 and 4 for most of the series, ends up at 1 right near the end.
Subaru - 1 right throughout.
Mimiru - Varies from 2 to 2.5 throughout.
Bear - 1 right throughout.
BT - 3, maybe 3.5, as you're never quite sure where her loyalties lie.
Sora - Swings all the way from 5 to 1 depending on the situation.
Silver Knight/Ginkan - 3 mostly, due to the fact that his fanatisism could be counted as good or bad, though he does end up at 1 near the end.
Crim - 1, your out-and-out good guy.
Macha - 3 mostly, changes to 1 upon her death.
Morganna - 5, about as evil as they come.
Aura - Can't really be rated as she is asleep right up until the end.
Helba - 1, hacker she may be, but she does nothing but help the main cast whenever she's shown.

When they change their personality that much it's generally not a bad idea to rate their overall average behavior, but it's also okay to mention their times of variation. The only reason that I rated Key's robot and human forms differently is because I more or less see them as too completely separate entities.

For example, as was discussed on the Ranma ranking forum, Ryoga probably would have started out a 4 in the series, but due to progressive maturing receives a 3 at the very end. Gaara from Naruto is another ambiguous one. In the Chuunin Exam arc, I'd give him a 4.5, his saving grace being the fact that he never attacks anyone unless provoked. However, he seems to be a 2 or maybe a 2.5 once Naruto gives him his growing up.

Sasuke would be the opposite. He starts as a 3 due to his obsession with Itachi, and is a largely decent person. Unfortunately that obsession is slowly turning him into a 4, so I consider what he overall is.

But I'm not saying that because what you're doing is wrong, as it's actually interesting to read what level they are at each time.

EDIT: Sorry. I actually think that you came up with a better way to detail them. I just give them one number and leave it at that because I'm lazy.

I have to disagree with you there. I would say that Haruka and Michiru are 3's.

Mwahaha! An opportunity to talk about Death Note! I've tried not to be too spoileriffic (and since it's still a new show, there's a good chance that people haven't seen it), but I'm happy to explain or debate my points if people disagree. (And they should! Death Note is so wonderfully ambiguous when it comes to morality. )

Light: I'd give him a 3.5 at the beginning for his good intentions, even if it is a bit morally dubious. By the end of the series, I'd class him as a 4.5 or possibly even a 5.
L: Although one of the "good guys", L's methods can be very questionable, so I'd give him a 3.
Near: Similar to L, but more ruthless. 3.5. Although I'd give him a 4 or a 4.5 if the suspicions about him in the final manga chapter did turn out to be correct.
Mello: 4.5. Completely ruthless. Only (just) saved from being a 5 by his sense of honour.
Misa/Takada: Both seem to be completely lacking morals of their own, and do whatever Light tells them. That, to me, makes them a 5.
Mikami: 5. He is also a complete fruitloop!
Souchiro/Matsuda/Aizawa/etc: I'd class all of the other detectives in the 2 or 2.5 category. They generally do the right thing, and hold to their own sense of morality. Their worst crimes, IMO, would be of not trying hard enough to stop other people from doing nasty things.

I didn't do the Shinigami, because killing people is just something they do, and is not necessarily wrong for them. Otherwise, I think that's everyone that's important.

I won't be able to argue any of the ratings since I never Death Note, but I will say that you did get me interested in another anime, rmt. Am I right in assuming that it's similar to Bleach or Yu Yu Hakusho, because it seems awfully familiar from the small blurb of it on Widipedia.

Also one thing I noticed, it may just be coincidence, but there seems to be alot more 2's and 1's on alot of these anime's than there were for the Ranma one.

Yeah... Berserk would be another hard one for that reason. Since it takes place in a midevil mercinary scenerio practically all the main charachters by default would be at least 4's. Even the little kid they have with them.

I think since alot of people practically consider it an anime, I might want to discuss the Lunar series, at least for now the Silver Star Story Complete game (I'm referring to the Playstation one on this one).

Alex - 2, although arguably the selflessness he needs to display to become a Dragonmaster may make him a 1.

Luna - 2 as a human being, but 4 to 5 when she becomes the evil Althena.

Ramus - 2.5, all he really wants to do is eat alot and make money (in more honest ways than Nabiki, by the way).

Nall - 2.5, due to his occasionally wise ass remarks.

Nash - 2.5 for the most part due to annoying snobbery, but makes himself a 3.5 when he goes to Ghaleon later

Royce - 5, this girl is as malicious as they come.

Mia - 1, as I don't think there's a cruel bone in her body.

Ghaleon - 4.5, since he does seem to feel that what he's doing is right (a similar mentality to Sensui from YYH).

Phacia - 4 at the beginning since she was reluctantly working with the Vile Tribe but is ultimately a 3.5 due to risking her life to help you.

Jessica - 2.5, she's just a hookie playing priest who likes men

Xenobia - 4.5, since she is following Ghaleon partly due to love

Kyle - 2.5, he's just a big drunk who likes women

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Morganna is evil so much as she's a program caught in a paradox. Her role is to give birth to Aura, but once Aura is born she doesn't have a purpose anymore; what does she do then? Almost all of her actions in Sign are intended to stall Aura's birth; I don't think she becomes truly malevolent until about halfway through the series.

True she's trying to stall her purpose, but she is willingly trapping and abusing an innocent person (Tsukasa) to do so, and that makes her pretty much evil in my book.

I would have loved to if I ever actually saw the show.

For me, it would be wonderful if some people had something to say on Key ratings, but I'm aware that me and lwf58 are probably the only people on this site who ever saw it.
