The mystery of One Piece

Since this isn't a poll about fanfiction, I figured it'd be alright to make it here. I can hope, anyway.

Anyway, this concern's Gol D. Roger's treasure, commonly referred to as "one piece." What do you think it is?

Since it is a shounen I'd say that treasure would be too easy. I guess it's probably some kind of concept, like freedom or something like that.

Some kind of a beginning of a new world. I suspect there's a word play at work "One piece/One peace".

P.S. It would be nice to see "one piece" written in Kanji. For example, kanji for "Grand Line" are "the run/stretch of becoming great".

I think it's written in katakana, as "wan piisu." (There aren't two I's; I just don't know how to write it long).

I heard it suggested at one website that the search for One Piece was intended as some big game, with a little message waiting at their final destination...something akin to, "Well, that was fun, wasn't it?". I'm fairly certain those comments were made in jest, though.

Considering everything that Oda's thrown at us, who really knows what it is?

Since I haven't read any of the manga, and only some of the anime... Is there ever a Goldilocks joke, in reference to Gol D. Roger? Has he thrown something like that, yet? ;p

No, no Goldilocks jokes. It's not like he was blonde. You should read the Manga. It's quite a bit farther than the Anime. We just recently found out the reason Luffy and his brother have different last names is because Ace wants nothing to do with there father so he uses his mothers last name.

Wait, so Luffy is one of his sons? So, arguably, he could be one piece? <_<

Actually, Crescent, Monkey D. Luffy is the son to Monkey D. Dragon, the world's most wanted criminal and revolutionary, and Luffy is also the grandson of Marine Vice-Admiral Monkey D. Garp.

It's possible that Gol D. Roger may be related to them in some way due to the 'Will of D' that is mentioned many times. If that's the case, then Marshall D. Teach could also be related.

Don't forget that Gold Roger got away from the Grand line repeatedly. I believe he sailed far enough to realize that all the oceans and seas of the world are really just one piece and that the whole of the oceans is his treasure.

Obviously it would be something he valued, and if think about it he intentionally started the golden age of pirates. There is something out there he wants found but was unable to use it himself.

Remember the Will of D and that the government are the bad guys...
