Why do I find interesting topics after every one has moved on?
Anyway my two cents...
"The anime never addresses exactly how damage is done. Okkam's razor
states that unless we have strong evidence we should assume it's just
normal damage, IE: Kinetic force moving at high velocity. "
Not 'kinetic force', 'magic force'. As for strong evidence They state
several times in the course of the anime that they (TSAB) chose to deal
magic damage. By that I think they mean that they attack their opponents
magic energy rather than dealing physical damage by magic.
Also TSAB = Police force, not military. Police generally use same the
ranks as military. The TSAB, I think, is a military turned police
organization as they are geared to capture enemies rather than killing
them and have "generals" and "admirals", ranks that don't usually appear
in police ranks.
"when Signum fights Fate the second time in A's episode 5, she states
that she cannot guarantee that Fate's life. Meaning, she isn't sure
whether or not Fate will survive."
Signum is a belkan type knight and thus was using mostly physical
attacks, with physical attacks you can't guarantee safety as well as you
can with magic. Especially since your opponent is actively defending
herself.
"But in the first episode of season two Nanoha gets knocked off a
building before she puts her barrier jacket up; yet she experienced no
damage whatsoever."
She experienced damage, she was clutching one of her hands as she fell
and there was visible damage to that hand. That she had two shields up,
one to block Vita's Swallow Flier(note: this is a physical shot) and one
to block Graff Eisen, prevented even more damage.
In StrikerS they state that mass(matter?) based weapons were banned
because after they were made even a child could use them. I take this to
mean weapons like guns and bombs. Physical weapons like swords, axes and
staffs need a certain amount of strength or skill to use, most children
would not have either.
Professional Magical Girls
As far as Nanoha's professionalism goes, I think her family had a lot to
do with that, seeing as how they were all in the bodyguarding business
and all. Her father was almost killed in action and during the recovery
time Nanoha was mostly left to herself. Even after he returned to the
family she still felt like the odd woman out, her older siblings drew
together as did her parents while Nanoha had no one. This is why she
kept her problems to herself and had everyone worried when she first
lost to Fate. Later she learned to rely on Yuuno, Fate, then Hayate.
Fate was trained almost since birth in magic and its use. Joining up
with Nanoha and the TSAB only redirected the aims she put that magic to
use.
As far as Hayate is concerned I assume that she had status simular to an
emancipated minor, which means she had a highly developed sense of
responsibility, as evidenced by trying to make up for what her
knights(family) did. Her knights admitted that they went against orders
to collect the pages and Chrono agreed that Hayate had little to do with
the damage to the mages linker cores. In fact Chrono told Gil that
Hayate was herself a victim of the Book of Darkness.
hmmm as a side note Alhazred, the city/world/universe that was destroyed
by it's own Magic/technology is simular to the name of the "Mad Arab"
Abdul Alhazred, a character mentioned in the story "the Nameless City"
by H.P. Lovecraft. Though I could be wrong, I think people give the
nameless city the name 'Alhazred' because of the "Mad Arab"
who dreamed of the city.
