The shrine (like most in Japan, it seems), is at the top of a hill, so no water there. It's an old-style Japanese building, with all the rooms separated by sliding screens. Only one story, I think.
The only other home we even see in the series is Usagi's. I don't know if it's near water or not. As I recall, the it's a two-story western-style house with the bedrooms on the second floor and the living room, dining room, and kitchen on the first. (There's also a room in the attic, which becomes Chibi-usa's bedroom IIRC).

Don't most of Japanese temples have that see-sawing bamboo water feature in a gravel bed? Most anime I've seen with a temple appear to have one, so it's likely to be a popular feature. Good Feng Shui?

Hikawa Jinja from Sailor Moon is a real place. It's located in Asakasa in Minato-ku. It's daughter shrine, the main shrine being in Saitama. It has something like 289 sister shrines.
I think these pages have some pictures of it:

If you aren't ruling out video games, the RPG Another Story has Usagi's and the Shrine's layout.
Frikkin hieroglyphics, man
Heh. That's what I thought, too.

I think it would probably be easiest if you just downloaded the game and checked for yourself, Tovath. Check
http://www.zsnes.com for a good SNES emulator, then go to
http://www.sailor-games.com/nintendo.html for Another Story.
