Kiddy Grade 2

Postby Atlan » Sat Jul 21, 2007 11:20 pm

The origional Kiddy Grade was, in my oppionion, awesome, but it left a lot of questions unawnsered. Some months ago, they anounced that they were making a sequal- Kiddy Grade 2.

Now, the've released a trailer.

I've never even seen the first Kiddy Grade. I've wanted to watch it a few times, but never got around to it.

Kiddy Grade was amazing. I will warn you thou, there are a lot of panty shots. I could never get some of my friends to watch it because of this, which is irritating, because it is a great story. I think there are a few sites that still have torrents for it. If not, I believe there are thin packs for the DVDs now, so you should be able to get it fairly cheap.

I am worried about the story for KG2. From some of what I have read and the character designs I have seen for it, I am half afraid it is going to be rehash of the original. Slightly different plot, but same overall story, like a Gundam series.

Guess we will see.

It looks like the main point is going to be the way that ES agents seem to live forever, and re-spawn when they die. Look at some of those shots- I thought I saw a pre-teen version of Alv and Diverger. There was also lots of shots of what seemed to be a young Lumiere and Eclair, in new forms.

Also, the use of their old forms sugests a look at their pasts. Remember episode 10? Eclair was shown as a terrorist, a general/president, a weak prisoner, and ordering Eclipse around like she was retarded. There is one hell of a backstory there.

All the better if it does address their pasts. Is it just me, or did one clip look like a young Eclaire meeting an older Lumiere?

Hey! Kiddy Grade had everything! Giant robots, cyborgs, spaceships, awesome fight scenes, scantilly clad women jumping around, and conspiracy! What more could you ask for?

Well, except depth. But nothing's perfect.

Given your list of "everything" I have to ask does it have any drama or plot?

Kiddy Grade is a bad Dirty Pair wanna-be that tries to become something else, fails and return to being a bad Dirty Pair wanna-be with it's tail between its legs.

It is also an anime with a storyline that is fragmented and unconvincing and doesn't know where it wants to go, a large cast of shallow characters, lacks a good antagonist, has a very lame ending.

I'd like to look at it as an anime which was concived as a part of a series. What looks like fragments of plot are actually a part of the story which will be explained and expanded on in the next season(s).

large cast of shallow characters

It's not a character driven show, it's plot driven. The series isnt about the teams of ES members, and how they interact. It's about an operative who realizes that she isnt on the side of good, and the corupt system that she's been enforcing.

lacks a good antagonist

Alv is every bit as bad as Magneto (commics)(except the illigitimate children), and he's been around for decades, in 3 comic series, 2 (soon to be 3) cartoon series, and 3(soon to be 4) movies.

has a very lame ending

No lamer than Ghost in the Shell: Standallone Complex (not calling GITS bad, I'm calling KG good.)

You could explain it more easily and realistically with imcompotent writers failing to write a story.

It's not a character driven show, it's plot driven. The series isnt about the teams of ES members, and how they interact. It's about an operative who realizes that she isnt on the side of good, and the corupt system that she's been enforcing.

It is a character driven show. The main focus is on Ecclairé throughout the show.

Alv is every bit as bad as Magneto (commics)(except the illigitimate children), and he's been around for decades, in 3 comic series, 2 (soon to be 3) cartoon series, and 3(soon to be 4) movies.

You can't compare them. Magneto has been defined as a villain from issue one and he also had a solid backstory that show why he does the things he do. In contrast they just pushed Alv and Dvergr when they realised they don't have any good villain, or when they deciced not to make Eclipse a villain.

No lamer than Ghost in the Shell: Standallone Complex

What are you talking about? The ending has more sugarcoating than Wedding Peach and is also a great cop-out.

(not calling GITS bad, I'm calling KG good.)

Thus insulting GITS and every other good animes.

Mmmmm, thread necromancy.

But necromancy with a point. After three years of hearing nothing, word is out again on the Kiddy Grade 2 front.

In October 2006 news of a Kiddy Grade sequel was announced, under the working title of Kiddy Grade 2 (キディ・グレイド2 ?) (K-G.2), to be animated by asread (Shuffle! anime).[3] A DVD containing a 7-minute preview of the new series was released on 2007-05-25 but nothing further was heard until, on February 26, 2009 it was re-announced[4] under the new title Kiddy Girl-and (キディ・ガーランド ,Kidi Gārando?) along with news of a new manga adaptation, Kiddy Girl-and Pure (キディ・ガーランド ぴゅあ ,Kidi Gārando Pyua?). The anime is now being produced by studio Satelight, based on a story by gímik that is set two centuries further into the future, in the Star Century year 0379, and introduces two new female characters, Ascule (アスクール ,Asukūru?) and Que Feuilles (ク・フィーユ ,Ku Fīyu?). The manga version, with story by Hidefumi Kimura and art by Yukari Higa (Shina Dark), is being serialized in the Comp Ace magazine, starting from March 26, 2009.[5]

Wish I could read the reference, but it's to a Japanese site.

It might still be hard to read but you can take the URL for the Japanese site and use Google's translate function on it. Better than nothing.

Ah, good to hear KG2 wasn't announced then dropped. I really enjoyed the first series/season, though I'm a bit worried this will be a case of totally different series that happens in the universe of this series and n'ere (or rarely) shall the two meet. Like Outlaw Star and Angel Links did.
