Or characters that if it wasn't for them the party wouldn't have assembled in the first place. Could you imagine anyone in Inuyasha hanging out with each other if it wasn't for Kagome?

But they're major characters from a classic fantasy series, a popular recent series and a Takahashi series. I figured, short of listing Sailor Moon, Bleach and Ranma that almost everyone would know at least two of the series

If not for Lawrence, this would definitely have been true, but Lawrence and a single companion don't really constitute a group or nakama in the general anime sense.

I've never seen Starship Operators, and I can't find much information on Renna Satomi, but I'll guess based on Goku and Gai that they are all people who go by names other than their birth names?
