Ranma/Crest(Banner) of the Stars

Postby Rakshire » Thu Jun 10, 2010 3:59 am

I'm looking for any Ranma crosses with Crest of the Stars. It would be awesome if there was one where Ranma became one of the Abh, or where he enlisted in the Star Forces.

Thanks in advance :)

Wow, eclectic idea! Few enough normal CotS fics around; that'd definitely be an interesting cross! If there are any such fics, I'd definitely be interested as well... but I can't think of any. A miracle worker on the level of PCHeintz may be the only hope... :D

Still, given there's one out there that does actually cross as close as the Takahashi-verse, if not Ranma's corner of it, (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2320925/1/Adriel_Interrupted), there may yet be a chance...

(Though I will say in passing, given Ranma's authority issues--"I don't bow to no one!"--I do have a bit of trouble imagining him becoming a toe-the-line Imperialist. Were I to envision him in that world, I'd actually see him more as doing something like leading a guerrilla resistance campaign in some backwater, independent system that the Abh and/or the UM were trying to conquer... but that's just me.)

*ponders* Ah well. Anyway, sorry for the digression--and good luck with the search!

I tried to find a crossover between these series since it sounds interesting but if it exists my google-fu is not up to the task.

given Ranma's authority issues--"I don't bow to no one!"--I do have a bit of trouble imagining him becoming a toe-the-line Imperialist.

That is not entirely true while he refuses to bow to Principal Kuno or Happosai he has done so to others in the manga on occasion. For example to Akane while apologizing or Shampoo in the last volume (though in that case it was a trick to get her to lower her guard).

I've looked on occasion over the years, but never found a direct cross of the two series.

However...

I have only ever seen one *in*direct crossover with Ranma.

I whole heartedly second this sentiment.

Actually given that the Abh's general hands off policy in regards to planetary populations (outside of maintaining their monopoly on interstellar travel) Ranma might find them a more comfortable fit than United Mankind who are implied to be rather strongly conformist and generally interfering busybodies.

Oh, certainly. I wasn't trying to imply by mentioning that quote that Ranma was taking some kind of oath or something when he said it, such that he can never, ever bow to anyone, no exceptions ever.

I just alluded to the way he phrased it, to show how he feels about the underlying idea of bowing to others. Though there are those exceptional cases, the general attitude--as he says himself--is one of I don't bow to anyone, not I don't bow these specific people.

The question then is, whether the Abh would fall under one of those exceptions.

Actually given that the Abh's general hands off policy in regards to planetary populations (outside of maintaining their monopoly on interstellar travel) Ranma might find them a more comfortable fit than United Mankind who are implied to be rather strongly conformist and generally interfering busybodies.

I suppose it would depend on how and where the author of such a fic transposed him in. If his and Genma's "wandering martial artist/training journey" shtick took the form of wandering between planets on their own ship, I could see him becoming ticked at the Abh trying to put that freedom under their thumb. On the other hand, if he was just traveling around on a single world, one that'd been Abh since he'd been born (or maybe even one that surrendered without a fight, like Martine) I can certainly see him not minding the Abh, for the exact reasons you mention--they'd let him do his own thing.

Him actually joining up on a long term basis and becoming Abh himself, though--that's the thing I have a bit of trouble imagining. While he'd probably be able to coexist better with them than the UM, I don't see him feeling much active support for the Empire's overall aims either.
