I nearly forgot about this, and your search. I remember a while back that I probably dug through every "Ranma-chan falls for a man" style or type fic out there...
There are a few that could be what your thinking of.

Well, I’ve gone over every story you guys have suggested, including all the ones on that page with the summaries, and none of them are the one I was looking for. Some patterns did emerge: the listed stories usually involved Ranma either being a lesbian or falling for either Ryoga or a male Akane. The one I was looking for didn’t contain anything like that. I don’t remember how it treated Ryoga; but Akane was female as per normal, and for at least part of the story, Ranma was torn between falling for her and falling for the male character. I really wish I had read the whole thing when it was still on ff.net — there were probably other scenes in the bit I didn’t read that would have stuck in your minds.
I’ve a nasty feeling that this story is gone for good.

I don't know is this the story but Richard Lawson post on FFML last June called "With Thy Brave Bearing" another part to his series call "Thy Outward Part". If you familiar with his series, Ranma falls for a guy in it. I have only seen it posted on FFML. I do have a copy of it.

I am absolutely certain it is not any kind of story by Richard Lawson. Apart from anything else, the story contained no element of the curse being locked as far as I can recall.
