Ranma cross: dungeons and dragons/fantasy

I just got through with getting up to date with realms by jeffrey vasquez and now i need some more fantasy!

so, here is what i'm looking for:

-must be ranma-centric as much as possible

-the primary world of the story must be a fantasy world reminicent of tolken/dnd type settings and such.

-NOT a 'ranma is born and raised there' story. nerima and at least part of the events of the canon manga must play a part. (i know there are some that use the concept of ranma being born and raised in a foreign world that are good, but that just isn't ranma to me. even if he ends up becoming someone/thing else, he's gotta start as the 'real' ranma) EXCEPTION, rebirth. but the memeories gotta come back at some point, and the past haunt him.

-NO wheel of time. i know some folks love the series. but from what i've gathered from the few fics of that vain i've already read in the past, there is just too much that happens that needs to be explained for anything to make sense. while i'm not an loremaster or anything, i am well aquianted with the dnd/forgotten realms history. (at least enough to get by, and what i don't know, i can look up easily)

-if possible, a ranma-lock story would be awesome. (don't ask why, but i've always found lock stories to be among the most interesting when written well.)

yeah, i know i'm a bit demanding, but thanks in advance for any snazzy finds :3

Will Record of Lodoss War work as a crossover (I've never seen the show myself)? Dark Elf and the Wild Horse by bradw316: After a huge battle against a demon that Happosai summoned most of Ranma's friends were left dead or dying. Ranma is sucked into the Medevil world of Lodoss where he meets the beautiful Pirotess.

i forgot about that one... and it looks like there is a bit more then there was last time i read it. :3

still, is there more? or is the world bereft of the awesome that is ranma fighting in a world of magic and the sword? :p

Before you completely shut out Wheel of Time. I admit it isn't in the same vein as Tolkien or D&D so commenting on it doesn't really help the thread.

But I first heard of the Wheel of Time series because of a Cloud Dreamer Fanfic that still hasn't been completed. If you ever change your mind I could give you a link to Far Dareis Mai Ranma and it isn't the only story I have found that stands well on it's own without a previous understanding of the WOT books.

  • No known valid link

R-ZENKI 'An Heir to the Throne' by RetroDude987 - [Status=Not Complete] - [Last Dld=04/23/2004]
The following may apply, but note the rating AA places on a couple of the later episodes:
R-AA 'Ethsharitic Ranma' by Multiple - [Status=Not Complete] - [Last Dld=08/05/2007]
I should note, there are also some Ranma crossovers that take place in the Gold Diggers Jade Realm, and some where he is in the Past in Inu Yasha crossovers, Slayers, and Rounin Kenshin. And several of the Grum's stories in both the Breaking Chains saga take place mainly in magical realms. I was uncertain they applied, so did not list them.

EDIT: Forgot one:

R-MULTI 'Hero's Journey' by Andrew Wilson - [Status=Not Complete] - [Last Dld=08/17/2003]

well... i guess i could go for it if it doesn't require to much 'assembly' to read. sure, lay the link, i'll check it sometime on a rainy day... er, some -other- rainy day (as of this post, we be having a stormy day here in 'sunny' cali :p )

and heniz: you are mass awesome. :3

i dare say, is there more though?

well, either way, it's more then i expected in way less time :D

Here you go.
Far Dareis Mai Ranma By Cloud Dreamer

Many requests get quick results. I start allot of fic search threads more or less expecting to not get results because I ask for specific situations that I haven't seen others use but I think would be fun to have had occur.

Heh... you misspelled my name.

There in fact are more. The ones I listed were to me the most likely to appeal. Also, like I stated, I know a good number of stories that fall into the categories I stated above that I deliberately left out.

I've read the Cloud Dreamer story being referenced. I did not consider it bad, but mearly decent. But it is not among the works of his I really cared for. It does meet your requirements otherwise though.

EDIT: I made one mistake in the prior list. The R-Zenki story in that list is wrongly listed, and does not meet the requirements. I was thinking of a different story when I listed it, it is:

R-LOZ 'GodBorn' by Mage-Alia - [Status=Not Complete] - [Last Dld=10/25/2005]

Not WoT? But The Pagasus Cycle has got to be one of the best "Ranma in a fantasy fiction world" fics there is! And you need no knowledge of WoT to enjoy it at all!

Granted it's unfinished, but it's still one of the best fics I've read (I even turned some of the fanart for it into a custom desktop pic that I've been using for years now).

And The Grum has more than just the Breaking Chains series. Check out the Forever Ranko series, where Ranma's soul is imprinted in a realistic golem-like rune weapon in the Forgotten Realms world.

I never miss a chance to recomend this auther: Mark MacKinnon

http://www.shadowchronicles.net/

The final section, 'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever' takes place in a fantasy world. Fairly D&D like, though by no means the same.

Note: You can read 'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever' without having read the previous ones -in fact, I did at first.

http://www.shadowchronicles.net/drafts/
'ON A CLEAR DAY I CAN SEE MY HOUSE FROM HERE!'
The drafts of what might have been. For one off drafts, it's still quality that supasses most peoples published works.

Just reread it in anticipation of a new chapter. still awesome. And yes, it pretty much qualifies for a fantasy world, and I read it before I was familiar with SM itself.

I know no WOT fics, but I'd recommend "differing powers", which requires no knowledge of WoT.

Dragonlance and forgotten Realms crossovers:

http://ranmafics.com/dragonlance.html

unfortunately,I'd consider most of the fics on that page on my "not to be reread" list.

I've only read the final section (and it's one of the best Ranma/SM crossovers I've ever read) but I haven't read the previous ones because I'm VERY afraid there's a lot of Ranma/Akane. If you can alleviate my fears I might read it.

As for other Ranma/fantasy stories you should check out Bast's addventure site. There are tons of those.

Unfortunately, no. The first part and third parts are _strongly_ Ranma-Akane, likely one of the strongest pairings you'll ever see.

The part about the Kunos (part 2&4), however, has their relationship more on the periphery.

thanks for more links.

as far as the 'ranmafics' cross over site, most of those i've either read, or something about them turned me off... and it's such a small offering (not from you, i mean just to find on that site in general).

as far as addventure goes, i don't take that site seriously at all. a good source for ideas, but not for actual fics. some contributors are good and thoughtful, but most of it is just a bunch of rushed junk that feels tacked on. (and while i'm not complaining per se, it seems to run into lemon territory all too often and kill what plot there is at times)

but again, thanks, i'm getting a lot more active responce then i expected. :3

after updating my current fics, reading these offerings, and brushing up on my source book info, i'll see about making my own fantasy romp. :D
