Self-inserted into Kasumi

There was this one, old story that I read a long time ago, where this author self-inserts themselves (though, in the story, it seems to be against their will, I think) into the role of Kasumi. I suddenly remembered it and was curious to see if it was still around.

RANMA 'Not a Dirty Word' by Michael Fetter - [Dld Date=10/24/2002] - [Dld Size=185kb] - [Status=Complete]

I should note... there was another one besides this one, made only a couple years ago, it was on MediaMiner. Where Gosenkuji made some kind of get out of hell deal and someone took Kasumi's place as a result, can't remember the name, pretty dreadful.

Sounds like Mike Allen's 'Misty.' The only valid link (at the moment) I've found for it (on checking Rakhal's index) is the RAAC mirror of the story: ftp://ftp.gweep.ca/pub/anime/anime-fan-works/Ranma/ranma.misty.gz

Okay, thanks, but... How in the world do I view the file? Is it one of those things where I have to edit the extension? If so, to what? If not, it isn't some kind of particular program that I need in order to view it, is it?

Its compressed. If you have Win Zip the file viewer included in it can display it perfectly normally no matter which system of carriage return it uses.

Do you have any archive shells installed, like WinZip, IZArc, WinRAR? Those should be able to extract the text file (gzip format), although you may still need to add the .txt extension to the file after it's decompressed.

I'd post an extracted version as an attachment, but I don't know if that's allowed (even if I did post a link to the original .gz version, above).

Firefox opens a compressed .gz file for me if all it contains is one compressed txt file with no other attachments without using any zip/rar program whatsoever.

No, extracting isn't the problem. XD (I just use 7-Zip, by the bye.) I decided to change the extension to TXT, and I can now view it. Silly thing's extension was the name of the file. ;/

Yeah, gzip decompressors seem to do that most of the time, in my experience - they just decompress the file and remove the .gz extension, leaving the rest of the filename. Always fun with the gzip files from the RAAC mirrors, as they offset the names with periods. :)

It did it to me when I extracted it this afternoon, turning it into ranma.misty - but you knew that. :D
