Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo.

He has power, skill, can deal with strange things, and has a calm level head.

I can see Tenchi, Ranma, and Tuxy getting along well.

Really there are a large number of characts that would fit the bill.

I was tempted to vote Inu Yasha, for either Inuyasha or Sesshomaru (sp?).
For one, Ki-based combat techniques (youki vs reiki, but still similar enough that a conversation about fighting techniques would go over the Senshi's heads)
For two, sword vs fist arguments (Both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru use their swords for special techniques, but neither are truly dependent on weapons)
For three, it's believable that Ranma and the brothers could get along and trust each other. All three value honor, are arrogant, use violence in normal conversation, and answer "Field researcher" in the preferred job position box. Ranma would be curious about their techniques. Inuyasha would support Ranma's ethical standards. Sesshomaru would at least respect Ranma's combat ability, especially post-saffron.
Finally, cats and dogs.

But, I decided to support Washu, as Ranma and Washu would probably integrate with the SM universe smoothly.
-They have compatible drives and goals. Both are insatiably curious, driven to be the best, and willing to experiment with ancient knowledge just to see what happens.
-Their specialties cover each other's weaknesses. Washu knows and understands vast amounts of technical and super-scientific (read: magic redefined in scientific terms and practices) information, and has the hardware to support that knowledge. Ranma can handle dropping into the thick of things, both heavy combat and simply wierd situations. In other words, Washu can be caught off guard and 'spooked' by unexpected consequences. She depends on her lab to protect her; in TM she stays out of sight, in her lab, or close to one of the power hitters (usually Ryoko or Tenchi). In SM, Washu would probably depend on Ranma as an escort since the "action" tends to be spread all around the city. Even if Washu avoided combat, she'd still want to attend scout meetings, which don't have a fixed location.
-Washu has access to space craft and portal generators. Given the frequent use of both in SM, the Senshi would have a considerably good reason to befriend the pair. In other words, Washu by herself would probably go into hiding, which would keep the senshi suspicious. Washu also might be complacent enough that the Evil(tm) could portal into her lab dimension, which would aggravate her at the very least. Ranma by himself would have severe issues in relating with the Senshi, either on the insufferable arrogance point or on the AACK! fangirls/fiancees point. Ranma + Washu would allow Washu to intervene on Ranma's behalf when dealing with a pack of magical girls, not just through power, but information. If the senshi want Washu's expertise, and Washu insists on Ranma as a bodyguard and contact person, then the senshi have to get along with Ranma or go it alone.

I also just had a vision of Washu subverting/rebuilding Muken Gaaken, the Deathbuster University.
Just floating around.

So this General sneaks into Washuu's subspace lab, is grabbed by metal tentacles, and begins to wonder -- as Nurse Washuu walks slowly towards him, putting on her rubber gloves and smiling maniacally -- if there might perhaps be sealed universes that make the Dark Kingdom seem comfy.

Clicks heels together on jackboots. "There's no place like home! There's no place like home!"

Proving that sometimes even a General can't tell his Oz from a hole in the ground.

True, true, but said General might actually invoke the Mihoshi clause.

Besides, Queen Beryl would just retrieve her General. Not that that would actually be beneficial to the Dark Kingdom, since Washuu is fully capable of tracing her guinea pig.

Headline of Dark Kingdom Chronicle:

Queen Beryl flustered by Ecstatic General

(from the front page of the last publication of the Dark Kingdom Chronicle)

It could work [as a tie in] for a general or a youma to wander into the lab while Washuu is preoccupied, prompting further investigation.

Yet another vote for Washu, if she could be convinced to not try use him as a guinea pig or to try figure out the curse and cures if he agrees to being one. I can't see them being good friends without changing Ranma though.

Skuld (Oh My Goddess!) would be second, the water and ice cream connection could have something done with it, inventions could be helpful if they don't go wrong and proberly only Akane would say anything since she appears so young.

Lina Inverse, or at least the anime version of might be a third if there was a common purpose or enemy, otherwise Ranma would likely say the wrong thing and get blown up, repeatedly. I've not seen the novel.

I'm putting my vote in for Hikaru of Magic Knight Rayearth.

She's energetic, skilled, has access to her own brand of magic, and can call upon a huge magic-based robot in tough situations, all of which would make her a valuable ally for the Senshi.

And on Ranma's side of things, she's nowhere near boy-hungry, making her "safe" to him; she has a tendancy to be a good and reliable friend, of which Ranma is in woefully short supply; and she tends to look on the bright side of everything and rarely gets angry, which also makes her all but immune to Ranma's tendancy to put his foot in his mouth, and could possibly allow her to diffuse such times as when Ranma does that with other people. Plus there's the fact that aside from the red eyes, longer hair and the smaller bust, she's near identicle to Ranma's girl side.

I havent seen all of those anime, but they'd ALL go prety well with SM and Ranma.

Final Fantasy's fighters are on a par with Ranma (if you equate their limit breaks with Ranma's Chestnut-fist, Moko Takabishia or Hyro Shoten Ha), and the potential for misunderstanding against the senshi is astronomical (Usagi, they're being posesed! No we arn't, thats just my Summon/GF/Edilon/Aeon Ifrit!)(Look, a youma! Hey, leave my Chocobo/Moogle/Quinna/Vivi/Red XIII/Cait Sith/Kimahari alone!)

Lina basically pumps out shit-loads of magic and hopes everything workes well, so that matches her up with the SM-verse.

Pokemon getting confused with the monster-of-the day. And, of course, the oblagatory Ranma-learns-every-pokemon's-moves-and-does-them-better powerup.

Tenchi... Well, if so many other people do it, they HAVE to be on to something.

Hikaru not boy-hungry? When Fuu and Ferrio were flirting with each other through about a sixth of the manga (1st series), Hikaru didn't even understand what they were doing (Even at the point where Ferrio kissed Fuu's hand before they parted company)! Romance isn't something she thinks much about. It might be a side effect of the same thing that makes her look younger than her 14 years at a quick glance. Maybe she's just a late bloomer.

The Senshi would definitely approve of a powerful ally like Hikaru, especially since the thought of grabbing Ranma for herself would never occur to her. They'd also like Fuu, because she has magic in an element they don't have (wind), and already has a boyfriend, which makes her not a threat for one of them grabbing Ranma. Umi would be more of a threat in that area, having no canon boyfriend (in manga, anyway) but being able to recognize romance when it's happening right in front of her. Umi and Usagi would easily be able to bond over a couple bowls of Haagen-Daz, though.

Hate to contradict you Bissek but Haruka has wind element attcks, being that she is the senshi of the sky

Not exactly, Tovath. Uranus' attacks may be wind-based in theory, but in practice they're more akin to standard energy blasts; heck, that's one of the reasons her element is so often mistaken as earth-based (besides the name of her attack); there's no overt use of the element like you see with Fire Soul or Shine Aqua Illusion.

The main reason for the air basis is the fact that Aquarius, the Zodiac ruled by Uranus, is considered air aligned. I do believe I have also heard her referred to as the Sky senshi, but darned if I can recall where that was.

It's her name; Ten'ou Haruka means Distant Sky King, and the planet is named after the Greek god of the sky.

Fun fact: Uranus is the father of Kronos, or Saturn as he's called in the Roman pantheon. Interesting parallels, ne?
