Origin of the Silver Crystal

Postby WG_Writer » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:20 am

Sorry for using the NA name, but concidering there are other crystals and the fact I have never been able to spell it properly, I think I have an excuse.
Anyway... I know that according to the Manga that the First Queen Serenity came from outside the Solar System and brought the Crystal with her (or atleast I think that is how it was) but what I was wondering is if any origin was given to the Silver Crystal or the other crystals (Golden (Kamen's) and Saphire (Galaxia's)?

I don't know of the origin of the gold crystal (something to do with pegasus and power is dependant on humans of the world having good dreams in the anime, in the manga I think it was sealed in Tuxedo Kamen but we're never told it's origin) or Saphire crystal or any of the other crystals, except the black crystal so I'll tell about that one.
In the anime the black crystal was grown/created by Death Phantom specifically to supress Usagi's silver crystal's energy and he chose that point in time to attack because the silver crystal was weakened by it's recent use. (Death Phantom was defeated by the combined power of Usagi's crystal and the crystal that chibi-usa brought from the future.)
The power of the ginzishou comes with a price and requires time to recharge after being used. Using the stone drains the users lifeforce and many times ends in death. Queen Serenity lost her life using the stone to save her daughter as well as the world. Sailor Moon dies at the end of her battle against Beryl, and only by her wish to return everything to normal do she and the other senshi return to life. In the Sailor Moon R movie, using the ginzishou to break up the astroid before it hits the Earth claims Sailor's Moon's life once more. She survives by drinking the nector of the flower of life. Sailor Moon and Chibiusa, nearly lose their life in the battle against death phantom. Once again, it is by their wish to save everything that their own lives are spared.

would it be cannon combatible to say that it might have been given to Serenity by Galaxia before she was corrupted, after the original Sailor War?

Just for the record, silver crystal is the right name. It's a literal translation of ginzuishou. Kinzuishou is Japanese for gold crystal. Just because you're saying it in English, that doesn't make it wrong.
You got me. I've never heard any origin stories for the crystals. I just know that the two crystals were supposed to be there to protect the Earth. The Silver Crystal on the Moon was to protect Earth from outside threats, and the Gold Crystal on the Earth was to protect it from enemies within.

Then there's the strange fact that the Ginzuishou appears to either *be* Usagi's Star-Seed, or has somehow *merged* with Usagi's Star-Seed.
On some level, the ginzuishou is Usagi's soul.

*cough*plot hole *cough* its like Ranma's girl form's height... what ever works best at the time.
I prefer to think of it as in a symboitic relationship with her. Neither really needs the other, but it gives the crystal purpose, and makes the bunny stronger.

So with the Ginzuishou, Usagi is an energizer bunny?
Strange that I didn't notice the battery company trademark on it!

I'm guessing that after Usagi used the silver crstal one of those times it fused with her soul.

in a strange way that makes sense, sure she is hard to wake up, but once started she just never stops no matter how much magical ordniance the enemy sends at her. One would almost think she was too stupid to realize, 'hey that last attack should have killed me and left no body behind.'
hmm perhaps the crystal is sentient enough to realize that its host is that dumb and takes steps to protect itself, hense the 'neo-queen Serenity' persona.
bah! imo its main power is plot hole fixing.
I am still thinking up a story to use this in, but I think for now I will go with the "It was given to Serenity by Galaxia before she was corrupted"

I thought all the "Silver Millennium" weapons had approximately the same origin, and that the Silver Crystal was like the Space Sword and Mirror was once someone's soul. Sometime in the past, Queen Serenity ripped out someone's soul and fashioned it into a weapon.
Considering that Serenity was supposed to have come from outside the solar system, she might have just sat around the Cauldron and waited for a really big crystal/soul to pass by and nabbed it. Rather than doing the deed herself. Clean hands and all that.
Although I still have this vision of looking into the crystal and seeing some Goddess screaming for all eternity...

In the manga, there were no rainbow crystals. The silver Crystal formed from Usagi's teardrop - so it was a part of her from the start.

We are never told the orins of any of the crystal in the anime or manga as far as I can tell. All we really know is the silver and gold crystal predate Tuxy and Moon in any form.

It didn't seem to be used that way.

The Dark Moon attacked because the defences where down.

I remmeber Mars using it to bring Moon back to life.

In the anime Moon charges it by stealing energy from the inners, and never went all out. Even if Moon had gone all out with the Silver Cystal I don't think just she and the inners could have beaten D.P..

Unless you discount major event in the anime it can not be Usagi's soul. The Silver Crystal works by draining others of energy, and then uses that energy to grant the wish. It has limits otherwise R would not have happened. I prefer to think of Stars as an AU.

She gets stronger in the anime by take energy from others. The scary thing is she never realizes this. She took energy from all the senshi but Pluto at the end of season 3(S), and only 2 gave willingly. I think this is 1 of the reasons Saturn was in baby form at the end. In season 4 one can only assume it drained energy to wake Usagi up before the others after they all where knocked out.

Stupid and foolish describe Usagi well. The royals of Crystal Tokyo seem to have no problem brain washing people. Think of how many documents would have to be forged, and people bribed and or brain washed just to have Chibi-Usa go to school in the past.

It still seems to predate Usagi in any form.

I got to re thinking this, and I came to a realization... (as I posted in another thread) What if the Crystals were a training tool? Something used to make the wielder stronger, by teaching them how to do things with high amounts of magical energy. According to the Manga, the Senshi were the first life in the Universe. Then the First Sailor War, this is more implied then stated, after the war was over Serenity the first (Usagi's mom) came to Sol system and founded the Moon kingdom, and she brought the crystal with her.
What I think is that during the wars the winning side created the crystals to train so that they were strong enough to win. If we look at it from the view that Galaxia had the Saphire crystal and she was as strong as she was, and Usagi had the Silver crystal, at her power level it does look possible. Kamen almost never used the Golden crystal either.
As to being their star seeds I think it would be like a storage system more then a true fusion. Look at it this way, do you see any pockets on thoes fukus, Usagi "technically" modded her fuku to even use the transformation broach and hide the crystal in there when it was there, she also stashed it on a septar. I suspect that the "fuse and become the Star Seed" is more like how the other (outer) senshi's weapons were stored. the difference being is that the crystal has a "Training manual" on how to remove safely.
Perhaps it was Gods or Goddesses that gave them the crystals, either way the crystals require supervision... something Usagi lacked...

Zwzn -
Death Phantom created the black crystal to counter Usagi's crystal that was why he was able to resist it and the reason the second crystal was needed to kill him.
When I said chose that time to attack I meant in the past, not the future.

Unknown, but with manga any association with Galaxia wouldn't pan out well. Galaxia doesn't find the Cauldron until later in the game, after she's met Chaos in one of his various forms (Wiseman IIRC) and didn't seem to have any interest in star seeds before then. The Sapphire crystal is supposed to legitly be Galaxia's crystal from how I interpreted it, and is at least in the top 5. She is able to have it out because the extraction thing was done to her.
The Golden and Silver Crystal are funky, and I tend towards either:
SoD: Some stunt to confiscate them, and possibly the ones the Sailor Senshi arise from. Serenity and her offspring don't have a legit Sailor Crystal until they go Cosmos due to an eventual adaptation from comandeering the energy of others.
Author's intent: Don't think about it to much.
