Ai Tenchi Muyo

So there's a new Tenchi anime that's being worked on called Ai Tenchi Muyo. A series of 5 minute episodes each. The character re-designs for the series have been recently shown, and they look like crap

Omigod, if that's the new Washuu, I'm going to change my avatar.

Out of shame, or because you like it? XD

I think I recognize the style when translated to animation, and if it's what I'm thinking of... I'll be slightly unhappy.

Shame.

A sexy, T&A Ryoko is fine -- she's always been that way. And Mihoshi works as eye candy. But Christ on a crutch, what is with those Princesses of Jurai showing leg? Especially Sasami! And Washuu with garters? That's adult Washuu, not little Washuu.

This bids fair to be even worse than Tenchi in Tokyo.

Well, if I know the creator of Tenchi Muyo well enough, this kind of development is probably more in line with what they would have wanted to begin with. A lot of authors of the harem genre are like that.

I actually was posting about this on TFF literally late last night, or was it early this morning...

Either way, the same feeling applies.

The renderings I've seen to date for it, plus the backdrop, holds absolutely no appeal for me, and I've been a fan of Tenchi Muyo far longer than I've been one of Ranma...

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-oh-ki is the first set of anime I purchased. They're betraying me!

Heh... I originally bought them when they were available on VHS. And the mihoshi and pretty Sammy Specials were a part of it. I've long since replaced the OAV with the retail original uncut Pioneer issue DVD box set release (it was sleeved in plastic and done in multiple shades of grey) and later on the two specials with its dedicated DVD release since Pioneer split those out.

Currently for Tenchi I have everything but the Magical Project S (I had it, but ditched it as not for me), Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, and this new thing on DVD. INSM I did not get because when I last checked it was only available at a obscene amount, I think it was 215 or so. Checking on Amazon currently it looks much more reasonable at $35 for each half season, which is still a bit much but much better. I may grab it.

I think the only Tenchi Muyo series I'd be interested in getting -- that I don't have -- is Ryo-Ohki, but more for the sake of fan-fiction than otherwise. The only other thing I own and like is Magical Project S. :P

Keep it, and show what it SHOULD look like.

It doesn't seem like Masaki Kajishima is actually working on it. They're just using his name and credit. The character designer behind these abominations worked on Durarara and something else.

If anything, it's pretty much just some spin-off put together to grab tourism. I'm seriously more annoyed about that design for Washu, since it looks horrible as sin. Sasami's just total moe drivel there.

Tenchi looks so damn bland it's not funny.

My problem with Tenchi is that he looks too smart and suave than his character should be.

He is supposed to look that way, he is as I understand it under cover as a student teacher, not a student.
