Touhou Project

Postby Crescent Pulsar S » Thu Nov 22, 2012 12:38 pm

A topic for discussion, news, experiences, fan-art/games and other related things about the series.

And what a poor way to begin it, by saying: I haven't been playing it much lately. XD I would have played it more, but the controller I prefer to use has screwed me over every time I accidentally bump into the left analog with my thumb even slightly. I wish I could turn the left analog off so I can use the D-pad without concern. U_U;

But! I thought I'd share three pieces of fan-art that I recently came across. That's good, right?

One of the benefits of a Playstation controller the analogs can be turned off. Too bad its both at the same time and you can't selectively just turn off one.

I don't think the PS3 controller is like the first one (two?), but the PS3 controller is the only one I can hook up to the PC and it has problems of its own (registering the button being pressed isn't consistent).

The first two can connect with adapters. The first systems' dual shock twin analog controllers also had the force feedback vibration feature that was denied to Sony and ended up in a lawsuit for the PS2 controllers.

I haven't touched the games all that much recently either, aside from delving into the fangames on occasion. I've more or less given up on the shooters by this point.

For a single-minded obsession, I'd say it lasted pretty long for me. :) I'll still turn up here with things like this, though, and I have my eyes on Hopeless Masquerade at some point down the line.

XD

Seriously, at this point I think ZUN should officially put some kind of McDonalds element into one of his games.

Or, at least a reference for the fans' sake. ;p

I have a USB logitech dualshock controller I use for the PC games I have that even need it. I'm pretty good at using it in touhou games, but really, you can't beat a keyboard for the minute adjustments to your position for threading through attacks. Sometimes the margin for error is miniscule, it's hard to use a controller for that.

That's if you're good at using a keyboard. For someone like me, who used a controller for video games for over a decade (starting when I was three, but that was technically a joystick) before even using a keyboard for what it's meant for, and then even longer before using a computer to play games, it's simply not in my nature to use a keyboard for anything that doesn't require a mouse.

I think controllers work just fine for me, as I have nearly three decades of experience with them, but at the moment I'm being reserved in playing computer games with one because there's something wrong with the left analog and it completely screws up a game of Touhou if I happen to set it off (while using the D-pad, of course) and it gets stuck moving me in the same direction constantly.

On another matter, I hope that in the next fighter that Meiling will actually be one of the starting characters with some kind relevant story/role. She's always added after the fact, the first time with no story and the second with an irrelevant one. ;/ Though it's kind of funny, considering how Meiling is possibly the only character that really fits in with a typical/standard fighting game in the series.

I personally doubt that she'll have much of a role.

A Pokemon/Touhou crossover is now in progress.

The Garfield meter's reading 3 at the moment. I require at least a minimum of 5 before I feel up to writing more on that.
