I think I have figured out why I like "Desperately Seeking Ranma". It's all the slice-of-life stuff.

I have a friend who curses me for introducing him to Desperately Seeking Ranma. He's read it twice, and it is a massive time-sink. He says it's the world-building he enjoys.

I'm trying to convince him to read Taylor Varga. Just as much worldbuilding, even longer, and funnier. But in case he's not feeling like such a long read, I also gave him a copy of Snow Crash last Christmas. That'll keep him busy.
