East Iceland’s Youth and Sports Association was founded in 1941. In 1981, the local group Slagbrandur recorded a commemorative 45 with two songs. This is one of them.

You need not look all that hard to find a pop tune named “Ein Student aus Uppsala” (‘A student from Uppsala’ – Uppsala is a university town in Sweden). The link above is not to that tune, though, but to a feature on a cross-country ski course that happens to use it with different lyrics. “Hoppsa-bomm” has been popular here in Iceland for decades, and the local text just happens to be about skiing… for some small values of ‘skiing’.
