Three episodes of getting an old Swedish semi-diesel farm engine back to work.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjoPZIUB8pA — Clean-up and first check.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqrIaq3zMp8 — How to make piston rings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuxBhp48HTU — First run and first time at work.
The video maker expects to make a fourth episode showing engine tuning, tweaking and twiddling.

My oh my, those two videos bring back memories! I was making rockets back in the late Fifties, though none of them were that large. Probably a good thing.

I've never ridden in a Connie. Boeing Stratocruiser, DC6, DC7, Convair CV-240, Lockheed Electra, Vickers Viscount ... I won't even try to list the jets. The most -interesting- flight I had was in a DC-6. We were descending toward Idlewild. There was a lightning storm in the distance, and the air was rough. So there I was, bouncing up and down along with the plane, looking out the window. There was lightning in the distance, lavender flames coming from the engines' exhausts, and the lights of New York below. It was beautiful. I liked the Stratocruiser. A two-story, civilian-modified B-29? What's not to like? And the Viscount took off like a scalded cat.

Most of my flights were in F-27 Friendships, and the most exciting thing I can recall was light turbulence once or twice.

I've always enjoyed RC model airplanes. I've never owned one -- that might spoil the dream -- but the Flite Test people on YouTube make some of the most amazing "planes" that even FLY! (And they sell the plans.) The videos are sometimes long, and often sponsored, but they do amazing things,
This pig flies , as does this Darkwing Duck Thunderquack and even an Ikea Chair. The flying toilet was, um, less than ideal and came to a bad end.

I've been reading science fiction since I was a kid - started out with Tom Swift and Jules Verne, and it's gone on from there. I was aghast at Sputnik, eagerly watched the moon missions. Hell, I was a bit of an artist back then, and even painted a portrait of the Thor/Able rocket sending a Pioneer probe past Venus. Then there was this long ... hiatus. Except for a space station or two, the robots got to have all the fun.

That's why I'm paying attention to SpaceX. It's nice to see space travel starting to head out again. And this time, the people in charge have a sense of humor.
