Every time someone makes a choice that matters. Say you decide to skip drinking a glass of milk one morning. That doesn't seem to matter just then but it leads to Amber not submitting the requisition form for more provisions. So a trip to the store is needed since bureaucracy doesn't make up for someone not filing paperwork on time. So in the end that decision changes where people from your family will be that day. Where the milk was drank things keep going normal but where it was skipped a trip to the store happens with a fight with brotherhood numbskulls trying to boycott the frozen food section because it has the wrong deserts in stock.

Many millions of decisions have no impact on events. Then there are some people like Ranma where too many people are basing their lives on what happens with the martial artist so even missing being splashed by the Ladle Lady one day can change the whole day for the entire crew and everyone they impact.

That level of impact from decisions or even accidents is why some authors have Pluto take action against Ranma.

Some authors even go one further that way and have the nanban mirror be, of all things, a remote viewing device for what the gates are scanning as if its a TV tuner for the gates and preview window. getting both devices use wrong!
