Ranma Idea - Chi Experimentation /Dimensional Cloak Disaster

Postby Munchkin » Sat Nov 18, 2006 1:34 pm

Background
After Saffron, Ranma has been experimenting with Ki/Chi senses and manipulation in order to be better prepared for future incidents - he won't have a powerful artifact such as Kinjakan or Gekkaja available every time. Also, since he can't use the Umisenken or Yamasenken again due to his father re-sealing them, he's trying to come up with his own school of techniques.
Remembering examples of how both Cologne and Happosai have used Ki/Chi in unique ways - Cologne throwing blocks of ice around via willpower during the cat's tongue incident, and Happosai's dimensional cloak ability - Ranma attempts to examine the Chi surrounding him to see how it can be used and manipulated.
Basically, all goes well for a while - over the next several months, Ranma continues to improve his sensitivity and skill by leaps and bounds. Even with the usual chaos occurring, he's finding time to go on training trips and/or meditate. However, when he reaches the point where he's trying out the dimensional cloak, this is where everything starts going wrong.
While everyone except Kasumi is away [insert reason if needed], he's in the Tendo yard, taking advantage of the peace and quiet. He starts expanding his Ki out through the residence, feeling out the Wa of the house, and starts inserting himself into the ambient Chi. At this point, Kasumi, who has had years of practice listening to the Wa of the house, suddenly feels something wrong - a panic in the air, and rushes outside to the yard, only in time to see Ranma completely disappear into this air.
Ranma manages to unravel his entire existence into Ki - a fully working dimensional cloak - and starts inserting himself into the ambient Chi around him. He can sense everything that happens in the immediate vicinity, because he IS part of the immediate vicinity. However, he doesn't have his normal senses - there is no body for these senses to work. He starts to panic because everything feels so alien, and tries to pull his body back together. Unfortunately, he realises he forgot to anchor himself, and has trouble halting his dispersal. He panics, and loses control completely, and evaporates into the surrounding area.
Over the next few days, there's a mass panic trying to get Ranma back. Cologne and Happosai can sense him and know what happened, as they have been able to sense what he has been practicing. However, they had no idea he would be that 'successful', and so were not prepared for what happened. Very quickly however, it becomes obvious that Kasumi is able to very strongly sense Ranma's presence, as it appears to be fully linked into the Wa of the house. She can sense he is incredibly lonely and frightened. Cologne and Happosai realise that she is affectively acting as Ranma's anchor through her attachment to the Wa of the house, and over the next week or so, teach Kasumi everything they can about meditation and focus, to help act as an anchor. Eventually, almost as giving up hope, Kasumi feels Ranma tug at the connection, and guides him back to her. He appears, then immediately falls into her arms weeping uncontrollably from fear, loneliness, and happiness at being back.
Scene Ideas
Ranma's first night back, and he's shaking from the idea of going to sleep - losing conciousness and the feeling of his senses that go with it. Of course, with false bravado he claims nothing is wrong, and attempts to get to sleep. Queue the nightmares. He 'wakes up' in his dream, feeling insecure and lonely. Suddenly he realises his body is gradually unravelling and disappearing again. Feelings of utter despair, loneliness and fear well up in him, and he cries out for help - eventually calling for Kasumi to help him. In the waking world, everyone suddenly bolts upright, instantly awake, feelings of utter dispair and panic washing through them. They realise it is Ranma, and his link to the Wa of the house through the ambient chi, broadcasting his nightmare. Eventually, Kasumi manages to wake him and comforts him as he lays there sobbing.
Future Ideas
* Because Ranma's body disappears, perhaps he no longer has his curse? Was he male or female at the time of disappearance, and so which body is he stuck in?
* Attachment to Kasumi - the only person he's been able to feel any connection to in the last week(s) is Kasumi. In amongst the complete sensory deprivation (except for the sense of Chi around him), she's been like a beacon in the dark. However, unable to move, communicate, or even really understand the Chi he is feeling, he's been extremely frightened and lonely, with Kasumi's presence being the only light in the dark. What sort of bond has this formed between them?
* Due to his extended stay in the ambient Chi, maybe he finds he remains slightly linked to the ambient energies around him, wherever he goes. He picks up on emotions and feelings around him, but more importantly, he now broadcasts his feelings over to anyone else in the vicinity. He was always like an open book to read before, but how bad is it now?
* In the nightmare scene above, how does this affect people. Will Genma harp on about Ranma being weak and girly, or does the fact that Genma can feel the full depth of Ranma's feelings halt this? Does Genma start learning about how to interact with his son properly?
* How has the situation affected Ranma's confidence in his skills. Such an experience would have shaken him to the core, and he would not currently have his pride or confidence there to bolster him. Will he get over it, and let the experience drive him harder, will he have to build up the courage to try again, to perfect it, or will he run from it, and give up on his Ki/Chi experimentation. He wouldn't give up the art - it's his life - but this would effectively cap him at his current level.
* How do the fiancees/rivals react to him. They can now feel exactly as he feels about them. Will this make his rivals back off, or some circling like sharks.
-------------
I haven't the skill to even attempt to start writing anything about this. However, hopefully this will provide some ideas or inspiration for those of you out there that actually have the skill and patience to write.

Not really any point. It was simply an idea I came up with that wasn't going to do anything just sitting around in my head.
I posted it, incase anyone else felt like using it. If no-one's interested, well, i'm not fussed. It's just there if anyone's interested.

Hmmm...very interesting idea. I'd certainly read it, but then again im also very fond of Ranma/Kasumi matches.
Lets see...How would people like Ryoga, who has 0 emotional control, affect Ranma who can now feel his emotions, even during the fight. Same with Akane, what would Ranma be like when flooded by an outside source with unreasonable Anger or Depression, That sounds like a scary incident there.
Possibility: What about the Nekoken. This is usually toted as a fear activated stimulous, when Ranma realizes he is feeling everyone elses emotions around him just how far will he withdraw?
Will Kasumi eventuall be able to act as an emotional shield/anchor for Ranma, but only say, in close proximity (ie inside the house) or some such? That would throw Akane for a loop.
