Washu from Tenchi. From what little I've watched of Tenchi, and the fanfics I've read, she is really annoying. She has an annoying laugh, I hate the way she always wants to experiment on things and use people as guinie pigs, and her always bragging about being the best scientist in the universe.

Kurin from Futaba kun change. She/he is the most annoying fiance ever created, it is way worse than all of Ranma's fiances put together. Also The way it eats makes Ranma and Genma look like high class diners.

Anime/Manga characters I can't stand

Postby Alathon » Mon Jan 21, 2008 5:22 pm

I can't friggin' stand Abel Nightroad from Trinity Blood; he's like a shitty version of Vash, with all the lame "must not harm/kill" angst going on, but with a weak impersonation of Vash's more humorous angles. Not to mention, even when he goes to ass-kicking mode, he just doesn't kick that much ass. Vash at least is badass, and had a credible backstory for his absurd attitude. That, and it leads up to an awesome scene where Legato forces Vash to choose between breaking his credo and letting Millie and Meryl die.

I can't friggin' stand Shinji or Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion; when I was younger, I could at least sort of empathize, but not any more. So you have sad, sad stories to tell? Cry me a fuckin' river. You've got the most powerful organization in the world providing you food, shelter, and training. You've got the most powerful weapons in the world in your hands. And unlike most of the rest of the world that just has to sit on its ass and hope things turn out for the best, you can do something about the angels! But no, you'd rather mope and be all emo and psychotic and have breakdowns. DIAF, you're both worthless. Gendo may be a right bastard, but at least he's good at it, and doing something with himself.

Honorable mention for Anakin Skywalker; he was animated at least once, so I figure he's fair game, and god does he suck.

In a way that's why I would like another season to be made. Everything for Trinity Blood is in place for an epic war that has allot of opportunity for the Krusnick to go all out repeatedly just so he can track down his brother much less save the world from Rozencroitz and I can't even find a peep about any interest by the production company to continue.

Something that's weird is that I hate many of the villains in Nanoha when they are going against the main characters, but when they're not, I like them.

An example of this being Fate, Wolkenritters, the Numbers, and Lutecia. I disliked them -- Fate and the Wolkenritters -- when they were opposing Nanoha and the main characters, but when they were doing their own things, I liked them.

So far, I like the Numbers and Lutecia -- along with Agito, but I just CAN'T stand them when they are opposing the main characters.

It's weird...

Millie Nocturne of Lost Universe.

Her goal in life is to be the absolute best at everything. There's no real reason for this. She doesn't have any particular goal that she needs the skills she'd acquire by becoming the best to reach. She just wants the bragging rights involved. So she devotes herself to collecting meaningless titles. There isn't any real evidence that she's actually earned the 'best in the universe' titles she already claims. I wouldn't give the title of best cook in the universe to someone who has a better claim to the title 'Kitchen Destroyer' than Akane does (Millie's cooking is 5 star, but every time she cooks, the kitchen explodes for no apparent reason).

For three quarters of the series, she's just a nuisance in any situation that doesn't require gunplay (She is a good shot), and the last quarter she serves as an anchor for the hero's sanity, because he likes the annoying girl for some reason.

She doesn't even get to be a meaningless romance character, because it turns out that she and Kane are second cousins.
Genius is 1.7% inspiration, 98.6% perspiration, and .4% poor math skills.

Bimbo - a physically attractive woman whom lacks intelligence.

Nope doesn't fit. She has displayed intelligence fairly frequently.

She is manipulative - see date with Ranma to get instant cure.
She is knowledgeable - on pressure points and herbs. She used pressure points on Akane several times, she displayed knowledge on herbs a few times like the herbal shampoo used on Akane, she also worked for Dr Tofu for a little while.
She learned Japanese in a short period of time. It may not be perfect but it was learned fairly quickly.
Managed to track Ranma and Genma for hundreds of miles.

She has repeatedly shown a devious, strategic (planning to have Taro take the blame for killing Akane), quite intelligent mindset, and isn't above scheming, play-acting (pretending to be a cupid sister), misdirection (like with the instant boy spring packets) or completely ruthless behavior (like trying to kill Akane) to advance her position towards getting Ranma.

Actually after having watched Macross 7 I must add another character to the list. Nekki Basara. He takes many of Minmei's worst traits and cranks them up to 11 and aside from that and being the designated hero that's all he has going for him.

It also makes me sigh with dissapointment everytime Macross Frontier brings up the fact that Ozma and Bobby are Fire Bomber fans.

Speaking of Frontier, Alto's 'elder brother' is quickly rising up the ladder even with his so far limited screen time.

Team Rocket

As far as I know, they are still making Pokemon seasons, and nearly every episode Team Rocket still tries, and fails, to steal some pokemon. They show occasional forays into good, and have even had interesting back stories developed and caught new pokemon of their own on occasion, yet they remain lame villains using the same cheesy dialog with only minor modifications every episode, and follow the heroes around like lost puppy dogs. Despite having put an effort into making them sympathetic characters, they remain, for no real purpose, unredeemed villains outside of rare situations like some movies and such. They regularly come up with yet another giant robot with immunity to some weird combination of things that gives the heroes the chance to look clever by choosing the right attack or combination of attacks that can beat them. They have no real motives for remaining members of team rocket, as apparently their pay is lousy, and their boss hates them, and they've yet to produce worthwhile results and steal some pokemon, and despite their attempts to steal pokemon, their 'evil' is rather inconsistent, they also somehow continue to have the resources to create giant super robots and strange transport vehicles despite their boss treating them like shit, probably out of James' allowance or something, yet aren't smart enough to spend it on food and simply walk like the heroes they are constantly following do.

I think Team Rocket ceased to be fun after we learned each of their back stories. They ceased to be worthwhile villain characters after the first time they were blasted off when Pikachu blew up that Pokemon center in the first few episodes. After that they sort of became the mentally challenged teenagers with confusion about their sexual identities who Ash and co. allow to follow them to keep them out of trouble because they feel sorry for them.

Gates from Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid:
He's annoying, incompetant, stupid-psycho (as opposed to crazy-psycho or evil-psycho, like a good villian would be). and creepy. It might not be so bad if he actuall had any developement or purpose other than being a one-shot villian.

Narusegawa Naru from Love Hina:
Violent, insecure, abusive, bipolar, and petty are a few words I'd use to describe her. Keitoro must have been a masochist, since her chose her despite how badly she treated him from the beginning. The others at their worst weren't as bad as she was. Yeah, she mellowed a bit over the course of the series, but Keitoro still couldn't seem to go for more than 4 pages without being smacked around.

Morisato Keiichi:
His picture must be in the encyclopedia next to the definition of wuss. By the current issue, he's been shacking up with Belldandy for FIVE YEARS! and hasn't even progressed past platonic hugs and awkward hand-holding. That, and he's just too nice for his own good. Selflessness is all well and fine, but people without at least some selfish motives scare me.

I can pretty much agree to every character already mentioned, to one degree or another. Some I might hate more then the people mentioned, others less but I feel the need to expand on some the ones I can think of right now.

Itachi from Naruto, not only does every one try to make this guy into some kind of saint, which is anoying because then he fails as a 'good guy' and a 'bad guy' ending up as just a lame guy. But I also hate how so many fanfics, and to a degree canon try to make this guy nearly invicible, even when he doesn't pull out his eye. Sure he was a anbu as a kid, but so what? That force is a joke and in every confrontation with the enemy they get their buts handed to them, genin from the Rookie 9 constantly outshine these 'vetrans'. I mean heck Itachi couldn't even kill off his clan on his own power, he felt the need to kill his friend and get some stupid bloodline enhancement. Truely powerful people don't have to search for such powerups, nor should they rely on it all the time.

Sasuke, also from Naruto. I have some real issues with this guy and his stupid angsty drive to kill his brother. He's so patheticaly weak, by the time he finaly graduated from ninja academy Itachi was already at least chunin on his way to anbu captian yet he fool deludes himself into thinking he might beat the guy some how, because he unlocked a bloodline his brother has had for years? Then his first mission, first time he really felt killer intent in wave the guy nearly comits sucide, does nothing overly useful in the series of fights.. and still deludes himself into thinking he's on his way to beating his brother. I hate this character not just because his personalty but his over whelming fan and author aproval, for reasons beyond my understanding. The guy hasn't done a single thing really on his own, it's always 'amazing powers out of no where' or chance events that let Sasuke suceed at things. Even Sakura was a better ninja then Sasuke in the early days, at least she didn't almost slit her throat in the face of Zabuza.

This rant just has to go out to a wide range of characters, but it's mostly focused at the 'harem' style anime. Where some hopeless male atracts the attention of almost every pretty girl in his area, but is to dumb or spineless to so much as kiss a girl on the cheek or hold her hand. Some times it's just a childrens show with a weak romance, but still why bother having it at all if nothing remotely important is going to happen? It's like the romances in Pokemon, some episodes they are there others they are completly ignored. Not only does these male characters never catch a clue, but rarely have much in the way of redeeming features. They tend to be spineless cowards who are usualy 'nice' but thats it. If simply being a nice guy was all it took to atract dozens of girls, there would be a tone more nice guys.

No argument about Team Rocket.
I also agree with you about the Uchiha brothers. If anyone developed a jutsu that blinded them (or just prevented them from seeing the user) both of them would be dead meat.

I don't hate these guys quite so much as to warrant mentioning them here, but the indecisive types in the romance genre do irritate me a fair amount.

Of course there are such things as exceptions to this rule: one harem lead I really do like is Negi from Mahou Sensei Negima; his "indecisiveness" is more a result of him being too young to be able to correctly interpret any feelings he may have for his students, assuming he has any beyond simple friendship. I do wish his relationships with some of the girls--particularly Yue and Nodoka--would speed along a little more, but Negi's romantic situation doesn't bother me so much as, say, Keiichi's or Tenchi's situations. I guess it helps a lot that he is viciously protective of his students.

Also, while I have to agree with the general attitude towards the Uchiha brothers, the Naruto character who gets the most hate from me would have to be Hyuuga Negi. His entire philosophy pisses me off, his contempt for others is sickening, and his treatment of Hinata as if she were a lower life form is simply criminal. In pretty much every Naruto fanfic I've ever read, my favorite part is almost invariably Naruto's battle with Negi in the Chuunin Exams. The harder Negi gets whipped, the better the fight, in my opinion.

Not that I'm condoning his actions, but it seemed to me that this sort of "criminal" activity was fairly commonplace in the Chuunin Exams. Heck, look at any three of the sand siblings.

I rather dislike Neji as well, compared to just the other kids in his village his life isn't so bad. I mean seriously, lost a father and some level of slavery to the main house pending on the author.. VS Sasuke having his whole clan slaughtered before his eyes or the obvoius problems Naruto has. Even within the Hyuuga family he should been able see how badly Hinata was being treated.

To make matters worse, it's how much favor Neji gets in fanfiction. He almost always gets beat by Naruto, has a great emotionaly break through and instantly friends with every one. Not to mention the romantic pairing with Tenten. True Tenten doesn't get much screen time, but what did the girl ever do to deserve a stuck up prick like Neji? Not to mention the great chance of recieving the cursed seal if she did marry him, and almost certianty her kids would. Yet so many authors push that relationship on.
