The cloud style is wrong but I do remember a similar scene where they were using smoke in Last Exile But they CGed so much I don't think there was a spot where the clouds seem to fit this style.

I wouldn't say it's too easy. I watched the entire series, so that's the one that popped into my head. Not very many series have space shuttles blow up on the way to orbit.

As I said, someone else can jump in now. While I could post a picture, I'll be unable to monitor the thread and respond to guesses.

I don't see that shade of Gray often and I know I am most likely wrong because the style doesn't match but I'm guessing Wolfs Rain. Which I think is too old in addition to being wrong.
