Info about mechs.

I thought it would be fun to do and I started this fic.
The plot will be something like this:

In a fictional world there's a continent shared by two countries that are slightly more advanced than us.

One of them managed to create a power cell sufficient for laser weapons. The other one, fearing its potential, tried it's best to get it, but failed. So it decided to attack the other countries border outposts that have these power cells.

And the story is about a young girl(20-25 years I guess) that was so impressed with parade that showcased new units that she agreed to contract the army so she would be allowed to buy and use an army mech that she liked so much even after her contract ends.

A month later her country declared war and Mira, as one of the pilots of artillery mechs went to war because that way she'll be paid a lot better and she'll need that money to buy and fine tune what she wanted.


Now for my questions.

Does anyone have a list of names for mechs? Along with any sites that describe fictional mechs from the technical point of view and mecha anime\games\other things you liked.

The outline you have so far kinda reminds me of some things form Final Fantasy 6 AKA 3 on the SNES. Only their power cells allowed their armors to use spells and are refined life energies from Espers (The GF's of other games in the series)

Maybe a walk through (Easy to google for) with Plot Summery and equipment lists from that game could give you some ideas. Although it won't help much with the Mecha themselves.

So far the story is inspired by BattleTech and Ar Tonelico ( imagine a mech powered by something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86b7Kjoe0_8 ), but with a tech-level that is closer to Full Metal Panic.
It promises to be so long that I doubt I'll ever finish it.

For BattleTech Mech's, Look at Solaris7.com. the last time I looked there they had a complete listing for the battletch universe.
