Ryoga found himself unable to concentrate on his studies, partially because he was so close to Akane, partially because Happosai was harassing him constantly (Ranma, aside from a few biting remarks, ignores Ryoga throughout the episode; he doesn't particularly like that Ryoga is spending so much time with Akane, but he doesn't try to ruin things for him either). In the end, he is forced to break a promise he made to Akane to avoid fighting and concentrate on his studies to protect her from Happosai, after which he decides that he just can't do this while he's so distracted and calls it off, leaving town apologetically without actually taking the test.

Some piglet, some neck.

Though in canon the chain is attached to a belt around the piglet's belly.
And there is nothing around his neck when he is transformed. (thought the belly band might be big enough to go around his neck safely)
So it's not his neck he has to worry about but rather his chest or waist being crushed - but we're not shown that.

I was wondering about the dress code for schools that require uniforms, in Japan. Is there some acceptable reason for why someone might be exempt from wearing a uniform, since Ranma never wears Furinkan's uniform (well, for classes)? Not a temporary exemption (since Ranma never wears the uniform for school), but either indefinite (barring that certain circumstances change) or permanent.

It's just that I recalled him wearing one for junior high, and I wasn't sure why he wouldn't in high school. I considered the curse, and whether it was allowed because his usual attire could better be adjusted for both forms, but he didn't wear a uniform from the beginning and it doesn't seem like he would have shared his curse to get permission to do so.

I'm pretty sure it just comes down to the author's prerogative, for their convenience, but I'd still like to know if there could be a legitimate reason for Ranma, other than his curse.

Since I'm bored, tired and wondering...

In fan-fiction, it's not all that uncommon for Nodoka to be depicted as being better off, financially, or coming from a wealthy family. It's the latter that I'm curious about: is there anything to suggest that it's at all possible? For instance, if she came from a martial arts family, or, as I've seen some suggest, samurai.

Not really. About the only evidence she's from a martial arts family is her saying so (apparently, I haven't read that specific story) - there is that sword, but there's no evidence whether that's from her family or Genma's. In canon, she's depicted as being very poor - she and Genma were living in a tiny apartment before Genma took Ranma away, memories of Genma chasing off a debt collector, her new house (before the girls tore it down) was rather shoddy if I recall right, she's shown making money by making and selling paper flowers (a Japanese stereotype for rock-bottom poverty)... so, no, as far as I know, there's no canon evidence that she's anything other then the poor wife of a vagrant martial artist.

As for your earlier question, there's no 'reasonable' reason why, but the most likely reason would be that he refused to wear it (possibly because of his curse - it's the only thing that really changed about him between Junior High with Ryoga and High School with Akane) and nobody could force him to do it; he's not afraid of any disciplinary actions, they certainly can't intimidate him, his schoolmates can't control him any better, and the principal himself doesn't really seem to care about it.

She does always wear kimonos, can be very expensive, and she has no qualms with spending money on Akane or "Ranko", taking trips to hot springs, and to family graves. Which may be indicative of Genma marrying into her family, seeing as she was there to pay her respects, while Genma wanted to rob the place.

And then got a big home all for herself when Genma was gone. At least 2 bedrooms, 2 stories, and with a small plot of land. And what makes you say it was "shoddy"?

When? For both this and the debt collector? The only thing I can remember her making were envelopes out of Genma's old scroll. Which was her simply being frugal since as a wife to a poor martial artist it pays to save when you can. Which isn't the same as being poor.

Genma can be seen chasing off a debt collector in one of her flashbacks, I think in either the Ryu Kumon story or the 'Ranma moves back to her place' story. As for the flowers and the condition of her new home, don't quote me on that, as I've mentioned before I'm far more familiar with the anime then the manga... I can't even get the damn manga until 2010 or so.

That's what I don't get. Even if she was able to get a house like that, why didn't they start out that way? Could it be due to Genma's expenses, who may have had the habit of spending more than her income?

Rereading those arcs, neither of them have such a flashback, and the anime didn't even get past Nodoka's first introduction except for the cooking ova, so I don't see how it could be in there from her. I'm quoting you on these things because you brought them up.

And what do you mean you can't get the manga until 2010? It's available to read several places online (the translation quality is debatable at times but so is the viz version), and if you bittorrent the ranmascan version is available on there.

Their apartment could have been temporary while their home was being built, or while they were looking to buy one. Genma himself had a house for he and Ranma at one confirmed point when Ranma was going to school with Ryoga, and it's assumed that he had apartments and possibly another house for the rest of the time.

Either way the reason isn't given to why they went from poor housing to a decent to upscale house. She could have came into some money through inheritance, or Genma had a great deal of money which he was too cheap to spend on a house he was going to leave anyways at the time, and he forgot to lock Nodoka out of the account, and she bought herself a nice house when he was gone.

i figured this was the best place to put this since i get repremended when ever i try to make it into a topic. what would happen if project cadmas from the dc animated universe ever got ahold of ranma or his dna. say after the thanagarian evasion they found a satalite video of his fight with saffron. if you remember cadmus was doing anything they could to figure out a way to protect themselves from superheroes. while the amazons are in a remote part of china it is still china so while the goverment may leave them alone (we dont know they never stress that in the manga) there would be some sort of survalience on them. one of the more secluded villiages suddenly go on a rampage and then their is a mountain destroying battle in which a godling is killed in battle someone would know about it. the first thing that would be on their mind is that a regular human no powers not accidental superhuman power just a regular human (for lack of a better world) defeated a superbeing).

And you should be reprimanded again, especially for the use of "godling" in referring to Saffron.

If I remember correctly, people have told you what they think, you just ignored them.

And no he is not the "god" of his people. No one refers to Saffron as a god, EVER.

i have two questions the first is where did the name kanada come from in almost every fic where one of the girls gets a male curse that is the name they choose and i dont remember hearing that name in the manga.

the second one came to me after i read i'll meet by star light. we all know that ranma 1/2 is canon, but we also know that his life was little more then torture. so realistically what would happen if ranma simply lost the will that keeps him sane with all that he's been through
