Related to Kunos! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Postby Spokavriel » Sun Dec 06, 2009 6:50 pm

A bit of humor in the topic subject.
In Lost Innocence chapter 2 Kodachi reminisces about the Hibiki family, her mother's nomadic relatives. Note: Lost Innocence is not work safe. It deals heavily with consequences of Rape. And even has a chapter that is marked as a Lemon. Most of it isn't bad but just a heads up.

I've read this fic a few times. And I was wondering are there any other fics out there where someone else either through crossover or from Ranma 1/2 cast are related to the Kunos and end up helping one or both of the children out of a bad situation that happens in the respective story.

The two do not nessecarily go together.

For example, Jeff and Asuka help the Kuno children in the 'Sailor Jupiter' saga... However, neither are related to them in it.

In a couple Slayers crossovers, it is hinted or shown Naga is Kodachi's mother due to insanity, personality, and laugh.

There is a NGE crossover where Shinji Ikari is adopted by Kodachi Kuno and Shampoo...

There was a Ranma/Martian successor Nadesico cross where a decendant of the Tendo/Kuno lines was waiting for Ranma to reappear.

There was a Honor Harrington crossover where the Kuno/Kouonji/Tendo/Amazon lines merged through the centruies and were waiting fro Ranma to reappear, almost as a Legend. Honor harrington was a distant relation assigned to care for Ranma as a adoption.

Can't think of where (might have been in a story by Nemo Black), but there were a couple over the years where it came out Happosai spawned the Tendos/Kunos/Saotome lines, thus all were related distantly. Nicely explaining all the crazy martial arts in one go.

Does not exactly fit, but the humor is there. In 'Will You Be My Fiancee' all the mothers of Ranma's female aquaintences know each other, and of Haruka/Michiru's mothers, and Ryoga Hibiki's mom, they talk of their family issues over weekly meetings.

Figured there might not have been another one. It just makes so much sense to have sane relatives try to rescue the Kuno children. But it breaks the chance to use those characters without taking the trouble to think about how it would change them or how they would grow from it.

Few people want to mess with that for usually secondary at best characters. Seems I keep coming up with things I would like to see that no one wants to write.

It really sucks that the way the links get shortened makes the title impossible to read. The link still works perfectly enclosing everything before the title in the {url=yadda yadda} bit enclosing the next part before a {/url} block. At least then it doesn't require looking at link properties or actually going first to read it.

Sorry I just had to vent about unreadable links. No offense and thanks for the link.

Actually... it seems it is related to how BBCode is interpreted in this forum software. Officially, strict BBCode interpretation is not supposed to even recognize a link outside of it being in proper tags, that is part of the stanadard. And thus it should not place a valid hyperlink under it (in most browsers, this is a single line, and allows a single click jump).

Forum software using BBCode, including Invision, Icy Phoenix, and PHPBB among others all use what I call a *relaxed* form of the BBCode standards code, and I've no clue if there is a official name for this aspect. They all allow the members to enter a raw link, and then the forum attempts to resolve it into a hyperlink if it can.

The problem is not the fact the forums allow it when they should not per the standard... the problem is that this forum software since the upgrade auto defaults the description part to keep the length below a certain predefined maximum.

This is all easily proven... take the prior post for example, and enter it in any off line BBCode editor... I use one by Kyrsoft, but any should do... the links if not in proper tags are not hyperlinked.

So...

User types:
Code: Select all
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome

Forum Outputs: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/T ... us_Saotome

Auto interpretation *should* have made that equivelent to typing:
Code: Select all
[url]http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome[/url]

Forum Outputs: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome

Or alternatively, a wordier varient of the same correct command would be equivelent to typing:
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome]http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome[/url]

Forum Outputs: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome

But the forum does neither of the expected versions. Because of the length limitation (seemingly in and around 55 characters), the closest would be equivelent to typing:
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/The_Sorcerous_Saotome]http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/T ... us_Saotome[/url]

Forum Outputs: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2221198/1/T ... us_Saotome

When I first noticed the issue on this forum back when it got upgraded after the crash, I researched it,. If it is properly tagged, for the most part it leaves it intact. This is due to the fact with the tags the 'URL=' portion of the tag, unless overridden, is always blank, forcing the system to use the description portion as the link name.

Upon learning the above, I immediately changed my generated BBCode format to be true to standard. While it made the files a tiny bit larger, I viewed the benefits to far outweight the space.

In any case... some links for my above named stories. So we can at least somewhat call this close to topic.

What I was trying to say is that the Fanfiction.net links still work without the words portion so it makes it easy to convert it to a proper BBC link using that part for the description portion without having to retype the name, if you break it up.

Ehhh... to each their own. Doing it that way hides the link unless the link is the description. Hiding the link is something I dislike, which is why my own links never do it that way.

I kind of recall a fic where the Kuno kids were taken in by the Tendos, but no name yet.

As for the topic drift, here are some in that line:
Saotome Ranma, Wiseman by Maximara - The clans mix downstream.
Ultimatum by Typhonis - Naga (she with the balloon boobies) is mama-Kuno.
Family Trees by Thrythlind - Fits the thread title unseemly well.
"Rolling Thunder? Isn't that a rumble of bikers escorting a fallen cop or soldier on their last journey?"
