https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxjiZ2uMVaQ — German edition of "The Rescue Feat Under Látrabjarg".
http://www.fleetwood-trawlers.info/index.php/2010/03/s-t-sargon-gy858/ — Sargon's history and another copy of the movie.

I really hope you can watch this. Today, 12DEC2021, is 74 years since the Fleetwood trawler Dhoon ran aground in NW-Iceland. The local farmers managed through sheer sisu and stubbornness to rescue every surviving memver of the crew.

The rescue shown in the film is real. During the filming the year after, another British trawler, Sargon from Grimsby, ran aground not far away in a blind storm while seeking shelter.

The long and the short of "Hundred Maids and One Pancake". Euh… sounds like Freddy Quinn's "Hundert Mann und ein Befehl".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXjbVLgK-fU — "Caution: Wake Turbulence" (FAA) is about wingtip vortices and the hazards that follow them. Undated. Listed as 16mm film, but this is clearly dubbed to tape, then.

Arthur Weasley would no doubt want a copy of this for his shack.

Arthur Weasley wouldn't know how to spell "airplane" or "aeroplane", so he'd ignore it. If he ran into these, he'd feed them to the mixmaster he was investigating. But if he left it sitting around, Merlin knows what trouble the twins would get into. (I wonder how a broom with wings would work?)

1970 is mentioned and there's a 747 included that came into service in 1970, but i'm not seeing a lot of newer stuff so probably 70s, though 80s isn't impossible, but picture/sound quality for these kind of reels tended to have got better by then.

It's interesting to note how over the last few decades, those safety distances have been overall greatly reduced thanks to winglets becoming the standard. Reducing drag by 3-7% by greatly reducing the amount of vortices formed by the wingtips.
(and some improved engine designs reducing vortices from those as well)

Without them, most high density airports in the world would have something like 15-50% lower aircraft capacity per time. Huge difference.

How long before they figure out "hey, we can effectively make an airplane with infinite fuel!" and start thinking about exploiting that...
(temporary conjuration of air, water and heat/fire, makes for unlimited runtime steam rocket engines)

A while ago I had the idea of Rolls-Royce introducing a new series of turbofan engines that could run on kerosene or magic. And just now I had another idea: If Fiendfyre could be tamed, having it power the burn inside a jet engine would likely make it unquenchable by in-flight water intake.

*lol*

You realise of course that if you CAN have magical fire in the engines, water getting in isn't going to do anything to said fire no matter what kind of fire it is?
:P

Of course, if you could use fiendfyre, you could probably increase the rate of water you could conjure into the engine as part of the propulsion and increase the resulting thrust from the extra steam generated by flashheating water.

And the steam-powered aircraft is then back.

Oh yes! With every liter of water producing around 1600 liters of steam, if you have access to infinite water and heat, you can make one heck of a rocket engine even with nothing more complicated than those together.
Add a "chamber" before those where you put together oxygen and and a fuel to increase the heat and thrust released and even the best and most insane of realworld rocket engines starts looking weak and puny.

Magic for the win!!! :D
