"Guess That Anime" Game

I'd like to add that there seems to be a consensus about it: Korean animation is not anime. Try searching for "Cubby the fox" (or "Yobi") or "Yeu Woo Bi" in Animenfo, Anidb or Anime News Network.
Actually, in AniDB it seems it was introduced and removed later.

I made an earlier ruling that European animated programs are not valid for this game. The example being discussed was Code Lyoko. My ruling was that "anime is specifically Japanese", although music videos and other forms which use Japanese animated video clips are acceptable. My definition also permits shows that were created in other countries but animated in Japan. Code Lyoko was created, written, and animated in France, with no Japanese animators showing in the credits.

Korean animation is a gray area, because it is based on Japanese animation. I did not object to the last topic because it is anime in style, concept, and execution. Stylistically, Yobi can be thought of as a tribute to Studio Ghibli.

Any thoughts? Should Korean animation be excluded in the future?

I think if you cut out Korean then it could end up with people spending more time questioning the origin of the shows than having fun playing the game.

Lyoko makes sence to cut but there are allot of Korean productions that are just too similar to be sure without looking it up.

And I don't mind korean anime perse. Although I didn't get the answer through any japanese anime listing. So that in itself made it harder to guess... The fact was that it was quite specific with it's fivetailed fox...

I'd like to point out I wasn't complaining about this movie showing here, I personally consider it fair game.

Of course, what happens then to anime-ish movies not made in Japan? I'm not sure any work by Ben Dunn has been animated, but his style is anime/manga-ish, though he is from the US, just to name one example.

I was stating my disappointment at what seems general treatment in three web sites I thought would be more open minded.

Eh? Why would you say that? You did just fine. The only mistake you made was not checking whether or not there were alternate titles for the movie you picked. Next time you'll know better.

Just to kill the "it's a show about a sub" guesses before they start, I can say from one glance that that submarine is of World War II vintage. So it's either not set in the modern era, or that sub has been resurrected from the scrapheap.

The art style looks like it was made in the last decade, so I would guess that it's fairly recent. No idea about the show, though. If I'd seen one with a WWII US sub in it, I'd remember that clearly.

Since the first picture is a Japanese freighter, as a guess I'd say that the show must have been about the sub attacking that ship. An animated dramatization of an actual historical event, perhaps?
