An Idea I've Been Toying Around With

It's an idea I've had for a while, and I actually typed it out a year or two ago.

The fanfic is a Ranma and Pokemon crossover. The timeline it takes place in is when Ranma is six-years-old and on the training trip with Genma. It also takes place after the Neko-ken training and Ranma and Genma are in the woods. Ranma decides to explore the forest a little and ends up getting lost. As he's running around and trying to find his way back, he bumps into a woman who's stepping out of an odd portal. Because he was jumping, both fall back into it.

When Ranma takes a look at the one he bumped into, it turns out the woman had a few characteristics of a Pikachu (Ears, Tail, red cheek circles), and that Ranma was now in a different world where the inhabitants had features of Pokemon. The Pikachu woman, Terra, also accidentally fell onto the small device -- that she snuck away from her father -- that allowed her to open the portal. This meant that Ranma couldn't get back to his own world for a little while, and Terra takes Ranma to meet her father -- and to face up for what she did.

Until they can get another device ready, Ranma is stuck in that place, and Terra decides that the young boy should live with her and her daughter -- who happens to have Pichu characteristics -- until he can get back to his own place. In the meantime, Ranma's still able to train in his martial arts, and makes a rival out of another kid -- with Tyrogue characteristics -- who loved to bully Terra's daughter because she still couldn't get her electricity to work right. Time also moves faster in that world, and Ranma's body aging is in sync with his own world's time. This means that when he gets back, not too much time would pass.

When he's finally able to get back a few months later, Terra gives him a small necklace -- called the Raltz Stone -- that would allow him to get in contact with her sometimes. When Ranma gets back into his own world, only a few hours had past, and so he could get back to where Genma was -- who happened to still be sleeping.

Later on when they both get to Jusenkyou, Genma gets in a lucky shot that ends up shattering the Raltz Stone and sends Ranma into the Spring of Drowned Girl. The residue from the stone, and the water in the spring react on Ranma. When he gets out of the spring, he finds that his body looks to be back around six-years-old, he's now a she, and that 'she' looks like a humanoid Raltz. When using hot water to change back, Ranma only manages to turn into a boy humanoid Raltz, but when thinking about his human form, he changes into it. It only lasts a few seconds before changing back though.

Angry over this, Ranma ended up pounding his father into the ground and accidentally reads his mind. While reading, he learned of his mother and where she lives. Ranma then proceeds to try and get to Japan on his own, and when he finally gets there, he manages to shape-shift into his human form and gets in contact with Nodoka. His mother is all excited that Ranma is there, but once she learns the truth about what happened, she talks about the Seppuku contract. Ranma, who reverted back to Raltz form, asks if she really meant it. At a nod from the woman, Ranma looks at her fearfully, shouts a few things at her, and runs out distraught. While running out, he/she accidentally taps into some of his/her Ralts form and teleports to an area where Ranma has no clue about.

That's as much as I can think about right now. I've been thinking about getting back to working on this for a while. The interesting thing is that Ranma would still be able to get in contact with Terra and the others, and later his/her form would even be able to evolve. Humanoid Raltz form looks like a six-year-old, Kirlia form looks 10, and the last form - Which looks 16 -- branches depending on gender. Gardevoir for female form and Gallade for Male.

Just to make it totally clear, as I'm sure other people may be wondering this; this is not a pokegirl story, right?

It sounds interesting to me. As to where you want to take it, maybe make it into a Devil Hunter Yohko or Sailor Moon crossover, with Yohko/the Senshi initially mistaking Ranma for a demon of some sort before they wise up and gain an ally?

Also, does Ranma take on the characteristics of a Raltz? That is, does he assume the body of a Raltz--which, to my memory, is fairly fragile and not suited for close combat--in exchange for psychic powers? Or does his body merely take on the appearance of a human/Raltz hybrid and Ranma keeps his martial skills?

A Poke-girl story? I've heard of those, but I've never read them, and so I have no clue about those.

In Raltz form, Ranma looks like a six-year-old with pale white skin, green hair that almost covers the eyes, and a white cloth that covers his/her body. He/she also has human hands and feet.

Ranma can still use martial arts in that form, but he/she wouldn't be as strong. He/she would have access to psychic powers though. Such things as sensing people's emotions, teleporting, reading minds, and various other things. He/she would have to rely on a combination of Martial and Mental.

Of course, if Ranma ever manages to evolve into Gallade, then he'll be able to use his martial arts most effectively. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallade#Gallade

I've been trying to think if it takes place in a world where Pokemon live, or to have no Pokemon and have Ranma's form be completely unique. I think the latter might be most interesting.

I also think that when Ranma runs out on Nodoka with complete fear and all -- and from saying a few things, -- Nodoka sees the fear, and hears what is said. This causes her to go into deep thought about it all.

Picture pokemon for perverts; humanoid girls with pokemon characteristics who need to be "tamed"--a euphemism for sex--to keep their intelligence. A lot of people don't like these because in the universe they hail from they are treated as sex slaves, but I have some experience with them and the stories I've read usually end up being very touching 'civil rights' kinds of stories about tamers who treat their girls as equals while they go off on world-spanning adventures. I got my start on fanfiction earlier this year writing just such a fic; 'Destination Darkness', a pokegirl fic I've since shelved featuring Hotaru from Sailor Moon and Hitsugaya Toushiro from Bleach.

You might want to do some research on 'real' psychic powers like clairvoyance, pyrokinesis, etc before you jump into this. Limiting Ranma to powers displayed by the pokemon doesn't sound quite as interesting as opening up fire/ice/energy manipulation possibilities.

Anyway, Ranma is the only human to appear in their dimension/world/whatever in 1,000 years. The people of that world are all humanoid pokemon. When I first thought up the fanfic, I also thought that some Digimon could be present there as well. That part of the idea fell through, however.

And yeah, thanks for the heads-up on studying a little of the different abilities. I was thinking about that as well.

As far as range of abilitys and extending them into other forms of psychic power, it partially depends on whether or not you plan to use "just" the moves a Ralts/evolution would learn by "leveling up" or include "egg moves" and "TM moves". Just on it's basic move list, Ralts does learn a grass type move, Magical Leaf, which is one of the "never miss" type moves. As Gallade he would have access to numerous non psychic abilities. Add in egg moves and you could use Will-o-wisp to inspire him toward pyrokinesis, and with TM moves he would have the possibilty of using two weather altering techs, at least 3 possibilities for offensive lighting techs, and a "shadow" tech (the ghost type Shadow Ball) pus when he reaches his final evolution, Gardevoir could also use Focus Blast or Energy Ball, and Gallade has even more techs to add to the possibilities.

Take a look at this one; PokeRanma doesn't even have any lemon content, and it's pretty funny to boot. A quick quote and then I'll shut up on the subject:

Ranma sighed openly as he put down the fourth book and opened the fifth. In the hour since he had started, he was growing dejected about how badly this world’s view of pokégirls had gotten. The books treated them more as specimens, as if the girls were merely subjects, with no real attachments.

He had learned a lot. He had covered the history of how pokégirls came to be, as well as steps towards the rights that in his opinion, they should have always had. He learned of Mao’s play for power that had damaged the support the pokégirls had won towards those rights. He learned of Sukebe and his weird ambitions. He learned of all the different types of pokégirls; which to avoid, which to treat well, and which that he would have to kill on sight.

He learned of pokégirl behavior. He learned about feral pokégirls and domesticated ones. The current book he was reading concerned battling tactics, as well as type disadvantages.

By the time Akane had arrived at the arena for her first lesson, Ranma was finished with the book and staring into space. “Akane?”

“Yes, Ranma?”

“You got a lot of perverts in this world.”

She smiled. His statement had just confirmed that he was the perfect person to give her pokéball to.

After their first session, the pain was making her reconsider.

Hmmmm. The idea sounks kinda screwy.

On the other hand, that's what I thought about the idea for that fic of yours where Ranma is Malfroys sister, and the reincarnation of Lina Inverse- and that is now one of my favourites.

How would Ranma match up with the natives, powerwise?

I'm thinking that on fighting skill, Ranma would be able to hold his own a little against the young Tyrogue boy. It might be because the other is too cocky at the time, and angered Ranma by picking on Kishara (The Pichu girl who happens to be Terra's daughter) and a young Slowpoke boy.

An amusing thing I was thinking of would be if Ranma did encounter the Senshi. It happens because Ranma is completely hungry and decides to take a little food. People start yelling about a monster, and the Senshi appear. Moon, however, is being held in detention for a few more minutes.

Ranma starts being attacked and has to use the small bit of Psychic abilities that he gained. When Moon shows up, Ranma -- due to the strong empathic ability he/she has -- feels drawn to her and hides behind her legs from the others and mentions that the other Senshi are mean, and that Moon is nice.

Sounds really amusing. But has Ranma regressed to a six-year old mentally as well as physically?

Heh, I can sooooo picture Usagi getting all attentive and motherly and "KAWAIIIII!" over a Raltz.

Ranma would still have the mind and mentality of his former age, but the new form would also play havoc on his/her mentality. There would be times where Ranma's mind will regress to the attitude of a six-year-old. It's kind of similar to how Chibi-usa -- in the manga -- is a little over 900-years-old, but still has a little child mentality at times.

There's also the empathic ability issue. The nicer the person feels, the more close and slightly unguarded Ranma would feel.

I don't understand why he would have to go back to being 6 years old in body when cursed. Why not stay at 16? There just doesn't seem to be any logical reason for the de-aging. And besides, you already have 3 stories where he's young, one where he's the right age, and another where his cursed form is older... I'd like to see more of 16 or older type stories to be honest.

And the idea does seem quite similar to the pokegirl thing, sans the sex, so if you make the story you might want to make a disclaimer saying that it's not related to them so as not to put people off. Some people would see the people = pokemon thing and not bother with it because of the pokegirls thing.
