Nothing from Ranma 1/2, possibly an influence from the movie/manga Akira.

the second one came to me after i read i'll meet by star light. we all know that ranma 1/2 is canon, but we also know that his life was little more then torture. so realistically what would happen if ranma simply lost the will that keeps him sane with all that he's been through

Yes... Ranma 1/2 is... canon. :|

No, we don't know that his life was little more than torture. In fact there is very little to suggest that Ranma's childhood was torture. Aside from the neko-ken, which was one isolated instance, Ranma has had no worse a childhood than anyone else. Even then, Ranma still likes and trusts Genma above pretty much anyone else, and the sentiment is returned. So Ranma losing his sanity, would do wildly different things for wildly different reason, but he wouldn't go insane because he had a horrible childhood.

actually there are alot of examples. during the hells cradle story-line we were shown how all during the training trip genma was beating ranma up and taking his food. it being only recently that ranma has gotten skilled enough to fight him off. the way the two eat is also another example of this.

genma has sold ranma repeatedly for little more then table scraps.

the fact that when ukyo and ranma first met ranma thought steeling food was a game, ect

And Ranma steals food back as well, it was part of Ranma's training.

What way the two eat? The fanon, always stealing each others food at meal time schtick? Otherwise they just eat what they can get their hands on. Ranma himself is shown stealing food from people many times. The dragon whisker soup, the hot spring island owner, Ryoga during school. (Not really Ryoga's but Ranma did take them from him)

And if you want to use the Hell's cradle arc, Ranma remembers Genma also as a protective figure. Genma himself uses a bit of kindness, knowing that it will stop Ranma from taking the fight seriously. Wouldn't a tortured child be able to come up with more reasons to trounce the cause of his great pain and suffering, than a few stolen food items?

http://www.maxmanga.com/online_manga/48 ... ?t=38&n=26

genma has sold ranma repeatedly for little more then table scraps.

Genma arranges a marriage with Ukyo's father, who is the one who offered the cart as his dowry, to which Genma accepted. Yea, that's repeatedly, and table scraps. (Soun picked up the tab for the Picolet engagement)

the fact that when ukyo and ranma first met ranma thought steeling food was a game, ect

Means what? That was part of the training, which Ranma continues to present manga time. It also appears to have been a deal worked out with Ukyo's father, that if she could not beat Ranma, then he would be given free food.

I've always wondered if someone arrived at 'Kaneda' by, in fact, altering Akane's name (it usually appears as the name-of-choice for a male Akane... not sure where there's any stories giving the name to any other of the Ranma girls-turned-boys). Pull the 'a' from the front, apply it to the end... "Kanea." Hmm. That doesn't sound quite right.

(Akira video playing in the background: "KANEDAA!!")

Okay, I'm a bit confused. In the manga (Viz translation), the "spring of drowned girl" is written as nan(space?)niichuan, but I've more familiar with it written as "nyannichuan." Which one is it, if either at all?

explain to me how eating all of the food so ranma goes hungry then ambushing him with logs and boulders is considered a kind father.

First off, he only threw the rock, the logs were something Ranma setup, and he in fact intercepted the rock before Ranma could get out of the way or break it himself. Second of all, YOU asserted that Ranma was tortured while growing up, not when they were training for a duel against each other. You completely missed Ranma remembering Genma fondly before realizing that Genma had stolen his food.

you see one act of kindness in ranmas childhood throughout the whole manga and you completely ignore every thing else he did. genma set it up to hit ranma plan and simple his plan was intercept it to look like a hero nothing more. plus like you said he stool all of ranmas food which he has done repeatedly throughout his life.

:| You're using Genma stealing some food from Ranma, when we don't even know the circumstances behind those examples. They easily could have been Genma punishing Ranma for doing something he shouldn't have, have you never gone to bed without desert? And then there's the neko-ken. You're using those two things to say that Ranma was tortured for his entire childhood, and he may have only a finite grasp on sanity. Again you miss that Ranma trusts Genma, spends a lot of time with him, and there are no other examples of Ranma being "abused" during his childhood.

genma set it up to hit ranma plan and simple his plan was intercept it to look like a hero nothing more. plus like you said he stool all of ranmas food which he has done repeatedly throughout his life.

If there's nothing more, then why are you using it an example that Genma likes to torture Ranma? Genma never had any intent to let the boulder hit Ranma, so he wasn't even trying to hurt his son. The attack he even comes up with to beat Ranma is what? Hugging. Yea, that's real abusive of him.

Meh, probably not worth even debating it with you, you have problems figuring out which forum to post in.

you insult me for yet cant figure out that going to bed with out dinner is not the same as your parents eating all the food and leaving you hungry. it wasn't that one instance the storyline started by showing how genma has beaten ranma up for his food the whole time while on the training trip. it was only recently that ranma has gotten good enough that genma can no longer do it.

if you dont think wraping a child up in fish products and then dumping him in a pit full of cats who haven eaten in god knows how long (repeatedly) is not a great example then your right their is no point to this argument.

here's an answer to an old question that i like to put my two cents in. ranma is intellegent, very intelligent, but is also extremely ignorent. i know its been done but his martial arts skill is the best example of this. he's not an idiot savant his techniques dont just get stronger. that's more a dragon ball z thing. what he does is break down an opponents technique and skill level using any subtle clue given to him. not only that but he uses the enviornment as well. you see this repeatedly in the manga and anime. figuring out how to get through ryoga's exploding point training, easily picking up rythmic gemnastics in the same time it took akane to struggle to master it. in his fight with herb he was able to figure out that herb was really a man while mousse and ryoga who were givin the same clues had no idea whatr was going on. you can also use his ability to quickly pickup and revise moves. his ignorance is that he is generally indifferent to school. this could be that he's spent so little time in school. he's good enough in it to not be totally flunking out but he's not above average or maybe even average by any strecth of the imagination. however i feel that if he applied him self using the same focus he uses in martial arts he could be quite good.

in closing i have two questions. in crose's fanfic prime attitude as well as a few others ranma has been shown to have a photographic memory and i was wondering is there any proof of that in the canon.

also in fanon shampoo is usually shown as a cold bloodied killer while in jim bader's fics the opposite is true i was wondering which one is more canon. jim made some pretty good points. shampoo has been shown that she can be quite stealthyand cunning . i.e sneaking in to ranmas bed naked yet every time she went after ranma when she thought he was a girl she made these load display's. also instead of just killing akane out right she erased her memory. what do you think.

I insult you because you're shooting for the fences and saying Ranma was starved because Genma would steal all of his food all the time, without any proof aside from ~7 instances where Genma took a food item. When evidence is presented that your view on how Ranma was tortured for his childhood is wrong, you stick your head in the sand and go LA la la la!

Please tell me where I dismissed the neko-ken? It's the only true example of child abuse.

in his fight with herb he was able to figure out that herb was really a man while mousse and ryoga who were givin the same clues had no idea whatr was going on.

Neither Ryoga or Mousse saw Herb's reaction to a bare chested Ranma in the hot spring. Which is when Ranma first got the clue to Herb being a man. Ranma even states later how that was when he became suspicious. There were no other clues for the other two to even try and work off of.

his ignorance is that he is generally indifferent to school. this could be that he's spent so little time in school. he's good enough in it to not be totally flunking out but he's not above average or maybe even average by any strecth of the imagination.
Ranma goes to school, he gets good/decent grades, and there is no proof that he spent less time in school than a normal child. The only time that he has not been in school for an extended period of time was the trip to China. Before then, he was attending school, and Genma had even purchased him a uniform. Which aren't cheap.

Being poor at school is anime/fanon, when he's average at worst.

No she is not a cold blooded killer. Aside from the instance where she was going to do away with Akane during the Taro introduction arc, she has avoided killing, even when under magical control. (Saffron arc where she was going to make Ranma a slave rather than kill him.) With her stealth abilities she should have been able to kill Ranma in his sleep easily after giving the kiss of death. She also didn't sneak into his bed naked.

to help a husband to feed and protect his family, and to give the wife and children some support if he were to die. Even in the oldest available records, such as the Code of Hammurabi, the dowry is described as an already-existing custom. Regulations surrounding the custom include: the wife being entitled to her dowry at her husband's death as part of her dower, her dowry being inheritable only by her own children, not by her husband's children by other women, and a woman not being entitled to a (subsequent) inheritance if her father had provided her dowry in marriage. If a woman died without sons, her husband had to refund the dowry but could deduct the value of the bride price; the dowry would normally have been the larger of the sums.
One of the basic functions of a dowry has been to serve as a form of protection for the wife against the possibility of ill treatment by her husband and his family. In other words, the dowry provides an incentive to the husband not to harm his wife. In fact is many parts of south Asia many young women are murdered or driven to suicide by continuous harassment and torture by husbands and in-laws in an effort to extort an increased dowry. To this extent an offer of rice and two fish is a insult not only to Ranma but to the bride. Both fathers were basically saying that that was all they thought their children were worth. Ukyo really has the greatest claim on Ranma. Her father literally gave everything he had to Genma. Genma in Return ran off with the dowry and left Ukyo at the side of the road. Akane technically has no stand. Here stand is more a matter of bushido then the law. Genma and Soun stated that their children would marry and the dojo would be the dowry. Ranma is still merely a guess in the house, he sleeps in the guess room, and he has no say in what goes on there.

they weren't 7 seperate instances they were flashbacks illistrating that Genma was doing this until the point were Ranma was able to defend himself against it.

the fact that ryoga's nose was bleeding and they were discussing what just happened was a pretty big clue

Was the yattai REALLY all that the Kuonjis had? I don't really think that they would have just that thing to their name, and probably also had a house. Of course that's just me, but I still think that Ukyo's claim wouldn't be all that much larger.

Which is your assumption, along with what you've posted in other threads that Ranma's life was constant torture. Which is backed up by Genma rarely stealing food from Ranma, and the neko-ken. They were living together for upwards of 14 years, you would think there would be more examples of how horrible Genma is.

Neither Ryoga or Mousse saw Herb's reaction to a bare chested Ranma in the hot spring. Which is when Ranma first got the clue to Herb being a man. Ranma even states later how that was when he became suspicious. There were no other clues for the other two to even try and work off of.

I did in fact miss that minor exchange between the two. But Mousse is blind, Ryoga is looking away, and Ranma's clues were that Herb was blushing, and that he froze up when he saw Ranma's breasts. Ranma starts to say that Herb is really a man, and the two still don't get it. How much they actually saw of that exchange is as suspect as Takahashi's knowledge on home construction.
