EDIT: As promised, I'll elaborate.
The idea was 'born' when I casually re-played Marvel vs. Capcom a couple days ago. I had forgotten that Jin's last name was, coincidentally enough, Saotome, and started thinking 'what if he was related to Ranma?'.
The idea is actually feasible, since Jin himself is a martial arts expert, although Jin seems to be able to control his chi to the point of turning it into fire (most of his attacks cause block damage because he's on fire when doing them), and even seems to be able to make his chi into an 'armor' of sorts when his life is low, which allows him to shrug some hits off.
I found the idea interesting, and began considering it from various angles. The obvious idea that comes to mind would be to make Jin's style a variant of Anything Goes, but I discarded the concept, simply because Jin's style is too different from Ranma and Genma's - although, to be fair, Jin can be a spectacular fighter even in the air. Jin's style is simply too flashy to count as Anything Goes. It is more what you would expect from a hot-blooded super robot pilot, which is what he is.
The next idea was to create an 'Ancestral Saotome Style' and let Jin's fighting style be it.That idea worked well in my mind. While Nodoka is totally inept with a sword, it doesn't mean the rest of her family is as inept, and seeing how we never see another Saotome, it's perfectly acceptable to set Jin up as the current heir of the Ancestral Saotome Style.
With Jin set in the scene, I began considering possible plots. The idea that came readily to mind was to have Ranma get involved in a conflict that forced him to use a robot himself (what can I say, the idea of Ranma pulling off martial arts crap inside a giant mechanical behemoth amuses me). Offhand, I considered who could have access to such technology in Nerima.
Kuno, of course.
It'd be fully believable if Kuno got his hands on a couple Variable Armors like Jin's Blodia, in his effort to destroy the Vile Saotome and rescue his beloved girls from his grasp. The Kuno's have more than enough money to afford this kind of stuff, and it'd set the scene for a giant robot martial arts showdown.
And that... is about as far as I went with the basic idea of a plot. As mentioned in other threads, I've got my hands full with my other fics, so I only made a generic outline of a possible plot.
And yes, this crossover idea is just an excuse to get Ranma inside a giant robot and have him go chop-socky with it. I suppose I watched too much G-Gundam.
