Oh, another recent anime I watched that I must recommend is 'Basilisk - The Kouga Ninja Scrolls'.
It is everything that Naruto failed miserably to be. Good looking women, badass ninja and lots of gratuitious violence. :P
Especially the badass ninja part.

Vandread... Now THAT is a long time ago for me... Can't really recall how it ended tho. Meh... Still have too much to watch before I can think about rewatching stuff :(
I did thake Light's advice: Dokuro-chan... WEIRD series... Yet so totally my kinda humor. Indeed too bad there's only 104 minuts of footage for the whole thing.

Um? I am the one who suggested Dokuro-chan. And I don't think I'm called Light.

I humbly apologize... Too much threads, too much info, too much to do.
I retract my statement on Light, and reissue it for GenocideHeart.

I just downloaded and watched the silly thing. And not silly in a good way eg. Dragon Half; Excel Saga. Aside from a few funny moments (like mocking Dubya's alleged 'bump' in his presidential debates and transforming a student into a cut-paste monkey) I didn't enjoy it much. At all. I could never have gotten through it if it weren't so short.
When humour falls flat as often as it did in a show like this, a series really needs likeable/relatable characters to rely on, and I really don't recall an anime I've seen lately that had such an unsympathetic cast.
So, erm... another negative verdict from me. Image

Hm.. last anime I watched all the way through was Kiddy Grade at this point. I am about to finish up Samurai Champloo possibly this weekend. I would recommend KG but SC kinda needs to be viewed when you are in the mood to watch some people getting slashed up.

Oh, I didn't recommend anything, did I?
Let's see, of what I 've watched recently, I'd actually say one of the better series was Berserk.
I like fantasy and historical fiction even more so, but I always had the incorrect view that this infamous series was an uber-shonen gratutitous bloodbath. But it was recommended more than once to me and was I was promised that my objections were based on misinformed fan opinions and word of mouth.
So I gave it a try and, what do you know? I really enjoyed it. The first and last episodes notwithstanding there's very little foray into the preternatual (or swords and sorcery themes) and only a brief - but significant - appearance of one inhuman character.
The story of Griffith's rise to glory that Guts finds himself forcibly dragged into is so novel in its execution relative to most anime, something I really wasn't expecting from a series like this.
And the slow-burning plot provides a great backdrop to some lovely character development and interaction. Griffith is an amazing character - the ambitious, charismatic type found in many anime but rarely realised as successfully as Griffith is in Berserk.
But - and it's an important but - the violence is brutal. There are no holds barred, no punches pulled and I can't recall another anime (or live action show) that's made me genuinely wince and cringe during the battle sequences and still manage to shock me with some of the savagery shown later in the series. Though, the final ep in particular loses the plot entirely (or actually sets up the true plot if you'd like). Also, considering the wartime setting rife with pillaging and plundering (and the general severity of the show), there's a refreshing and almost suprising lack of allusion toward rape. And the only (failed) instance is actually relevant to the plot.
Assuming you're over sixteen, if you can excuse the grievous violence and a horrible attempted rape sequence, there's should be nothing other than a serious aversion to medieval themes or storytelling that isn't afraid to take its time that should turn you off this series.

If you liked the anime... get a load of the Berserk Manga.
BTW - Seems a second season for Berserk is being thought over. http://www.animenation.net/news/askjohn.php?id=1046

I understand and respect your opinion, because Dokuro-chan is the type of anime that you either like or hate. A bit like Saikano. You'll either be amused or be repulsed, there's no middle ground.
Speaking of Saikano, I must recommend it too. While it is EXTREMELY angsty and has a sledgehammer of an ending, it is also one of my favorite anime of all times. I normally don't much like the classic 'starcrossed lovers' thing, but this one changed my mind, and that alone says a lot.
Still, it's a love it or hate it thing. It's very very angsty, and doesn't pull any blows when swinging the angsthammer at you. Even the ending, if looked at in a certain way, is depressing.

Ah, I kept hearing so much about Berserk that I just had to check it out. However, I was told that the anime was inferior to the manga so I avoided the anime DVD box set and instead started buying the manga. I must say I'm liking it even if it grosses me out a bit at times. I have a weak stomach and Berserk has been testing my resistance at every turn. Like Acey said, it does not pull any punches but, for once, I'm glad. In anime under siege by weak male leads Guts is a shining example of what a man should really be.
Like I said before, I've just started watching Saikano because I've heard very good things about it. I've seen the first 3 episodes of the anime and I rather liked them, but I'm taking a small break while I wait for more episodes to download. From what I hear it's a rather deepressing series. I like tear-jerkers though so this one sounds right up my alley. My one complaint right now is: Why are they always, always, always blushing? Annoying.
Now, to keep up the recommendations, here is mine: Honey and Clover. This is quite likely my favorite anime series of all time. Shoujo drama. It deals with the lives of a group of art students in a Tokyo university. The transition from teenhood to adulthood, falling in and out of love, hardships of finding a job, hardships of friendship and adult relationships. It's a drama in every sense of the word but it also has highly comedic interludes that always managed to make me smile (You shall forever remember the Twister episode). Truly, this series is quality in every possible way. Visually, musically... everything about Honey and Clover is just perfect.
Season 2 is coming out towards the end of this year. Out of all the jewels that have come out this year there isn't one that I look forward with as much anticipation as I do Honey and Clover 2. If you like dramas, or character driven stories, or comedies, or slice of life then you will probably want to give H&C a try. Odds are you wont regret it
Ah! Almost forgot! The last anime I've seen was Black Lagoon episode9. Good action, but their spanish was hilarious.
Move, make way, truth is coming through
The era of justice will come
There are songs of hope too
I would happily sacrifice my life for this world.

Lets update this one once again...
Last anime watched: Daphne In The Brilliant Blue. It has it's comedy, action, skimpy clad girls, wimpy guys and idiot bad guys and all that. All in all, I did enjoy watching the series.
Next up: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Heard good things from multiple directions about this one, so I'm rather curious...
