Ode to... Cliff racer.
Wut
Cliff. Racer.

(In Russian) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDoD0Yfs_hA

He soars graciously so far away
His plumes are so refined,
Refined is his toothy grin
...
This cliff racer is a tad agressive
But look how beautifully he conquers rock massif
...
Proud cliff racer, carry me far away
Over the horizon of high mountains
So that view of the whole world opens
...

..."a tad"?.. "A TAD"?!!
%$@##$@ cliff races, diseased cliff racers and #$@$# blighted cliff racers and their @#$@#$@#$ mother, criss-cross and over the anchor
The most ANNOYING piece of @#@$# in the entire Tes III: Morrowind.

I saw that movie. Been an aircraft otaku since I was in grade school, and a movie doesn't have to work hard to keep my interest if it has planes in it - even better if they aren't jinking around like jet fighters. And "Strategic Air Command" not only had large airplanes, it had Jimmy Stewart. How could I resist?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlKC5qUS80o Flying Ikea chair (long version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A68pu7EYhYc Flying Darkwing Duck Thunderquack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTnnXhcmSgY Snoopy flying on his doghouse

But Jimmy Steward and B-36en aren't fannish. Otaku yes, fannish no. So above are several videos that fit both categories.

Ever seen a radar talkdown scene in a movie? Here are a few RL talkdown clips from the UK.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laQGwBGO1-w — The talkdown operator at RAF Northolt has it in hand.

Well... lookie what I tripped over when digging through YouTube... Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School Band.

One of the comments on another video (in Disneyland Anaheim in 2017 apparently) read as such:

Aka Orange devils. They win almost every competition every year and schools throughout Kyoto despise them. Even on their website they accept the nickname and glorify it. Their director Hiroyuki Tanaka is a very decorated teacher.

Somehow I'd wonder what would happen if they dropped by for the kings birthday celebration in the Netherlands... With the orange color they'd fit right in Well... not completely accurate, but it should give you the general idea

Oh dear, i just realised those uniforms looks way too much like the things those of us who volunteered in school for duty as crossing guards(or whatever it translates as). And those looked like they did just to make sure you were darned visible.
Later model, slightly smaller:

And just overall, TOO MUCH ORANGE!!! :P

Was to crawl out of working remotely and go to work to meet my colleague today.
Overslept and agreed to move the meeting to tomorow.

And this happens: https://youtu.be/DXoOp1g1OJ0?t=8 subway service interrupted, my destination station is full of smoke :|
Note the train that caught fire is a troubled 1990s design (cobbled together from mismatchingly painted cars too) that lies between the old soviet design (a tank in disguise) and the modern trains (video screens and USB charger ports everywhere, the entire train is one uninterrupted wide corridor)
In this unique era any train you encounter could be any of the three.

Returning back from work would have been fun.

This reminds me of that one other time (2009?) I overslept and missed terrorists blowing up a train right on my route to work

P.S. In the last years Moscow hit a growth spurt it haven't seen in half a century -- longer than I've been alive. The scale of construction is simply insane. New subway stations pop up like shrooms, former industrial badlands sprout vast apartment blocks, newly streamlined highways curl with grand multi-level crossings overhead, all trolleybuses somehow got replaced with electric buses when I wasn't looking...
I can hardly recognize the city I was familiar with less than a decade ago

I go back to my native town (Morris, Minnesota) and am familiar with just about everything. Things have been lost, things have been added, but it's still the same. The Agricultural School (which had a funny schedule so the students could work on the farm during the busy times) is now a branch of the University of Minnesota. The swamp I used to muck about in has become a very small lake as commerce approached. Few people pay attention to small lakes in Minnesota -- we have too many of them. Crystal Lake is still there, as green as ever, but the Waddells pulled the dead trees (left over from the Dust Bowl when the lake dried out) and it does look better. The house I lived in is still there, 60 years later, and still looks pretty much the same. The Waddell trailer park is still there, with Waddells still living in the central building. This makes me feel warm, because that family was my best friends back in high school. The high school has been torn down and relocated. I'll live with it.

And that's the way it is in Lake Wobegon, just like it was. Nostalgia fulfilled is one of the benefits of having lived in the county seat of farm country.
